BEIJING, May 22 (Xinhua) -- Chinese flag carrier, Air China Ltd. signed a memorandum with Star Alliance Monday, moving its first step to join the Star Alliance group of airlines.
Li Jiaxiang, chairman of Air China Ltd. said that the signing of the agreement is a win-win result for the two sides, noting that no aviation company could seek a vast market without cooperation.
With Air China's enrolling, Star Alliance will access to China's aviation market, which has a great potential and the fastest growth in the world, Li said, adding that Air China Ltd. will expand its flying to more cities worldwide.
It will bring more convenience for aviation passengers while saving the resources and cutting down cost of aviation companies, he said.
Domestic passengers in China will benefit a lot after Air China Ltd. joins Star Alliance, traveling to every destination the alliance's numbers can reach and enjoying the shortcut transferring service.
Star Alliance, the international airline grouping that includes United Airlines and Germany's Lufthansa has 18 aviation companies.
Before Air China Ltd., China's Shanghai Airlines Company Ltd. has announced to enroll as its member early May, the alliance's first member in China.
Air China, the Chinese flag carrier, has 176 aircrafts, flying to 22 countries and regions, involving 36 international cities and 70 domestic cities. Enditem
