View Full Version : mapping the city (again)
gothicform June 1st, 2006, 07:09 PM http://www.skyscrapernews.com/dump/citymap1.jpg
well here's the first image, a perspective free cross section of the city and its eastern fringe from the east, chosen because this view is almost complete.
this image has a margin of error of 2 meters, 1 pixel either way depending on whether the render engine averaged up or down for each ray or was spot on.
London June 1st, 2006, 07:15 PM This is absolutely brilliant... although the dark grey block next to Heron is unknown to me (80-88). Is that the design, or simply a block expressing what could go there?
This view has got to be one of the most powerful. And on top of all that, canary wharf gets to see that view, and what its major competitor can do in retaliation!!!
Medo June 1st, 2006, 07:20 PM That looks great, so much density
When do you think you will complete the other views gothic?
Skid-Mark June 1st, 2006, 07:21 PM Yes that is good, is that minerva blocking swiss re? would be interested to see what this would look like without it as it seems unlikely to go ahead now. Great work.
gothicform June 1st, 2006, 07:24 PM no idea medo. im doing about 2 blocks a day... maybe by the end of june. i basically need to work west from fenchurch street, broadgate and so on.
Luke June 1st, 2006, 08:59 PM Good job. Looks great.
SE9 June 1st, 2006, 09:18 PM Fantastic job :applause:
Does anyone know the viewpoint/angle which best heightens the density of this cluster?
(ie: viewing from the east etc)
b4mmy June 2nd, 2006, 12:07 AM Nice one James. Glad to see this one back.
Luke June 2nd, 2006, 11:09 PM Gothic, I don't recall you voicing your opinion on 20 Fenchurch street? Are you in favour of its design and location?
I'm a big fan and I think your image shows how it really adds an interesting dimension to the skyline.
Jack Rabbit Slim June 2nd, 2006, 11:28 PM Great pic there Gothic, although the same image with a refence to each building would be even better...is that too much to ask??
gothicform June 4th, 2006, 08:24 PM heres labels for some stuff, not to scale. i was sceptical of fenchurch street myself but i thnk it works too, it just looks a bit lonely though im sure the gap between it and bishopsgate will be filled.

jef June 4th, 2006, 09:07 PM When is 100 Middlesex street about to start?
gothicform June 6th, 2006, 05:27 PM its gonna be largely student accomodation so they wont hang around for long. im sure we'll see work on site in the next 12 months
DarJoLe June 6th, 2006, 05:48 PM What's the one between 100 Middlesex Street and the Broadgate Tower?
woodhousen June 6th, 2006, 05:49 PM im liking it a lot.....just 20 frenchchurch just ruins it totally for me!
warcry June 6th, 2006, 06:04 PM im liking it a lot.....just 20 frenchchurch just ruins it totally for me!
Same here!
WTF were they thinking?!
they could of at least put it in the Cluster!
wjfox June 6th, 2006, 06:08 PM What's the one between 100 Middlesex Street and the Broadgate Tower?

If only Willis had been 200ft taller........ :)
oh well, can't complain, things are brilliant as they are
gothicform June 6th, 2006, 10:46 PM well done will, citypoint! you win a prize. remember this is a perspective free images so objects closest to the camera are not larger than those further away. ill do a perspective one from the same angle when i get home on friday to give you guys a better idea.
rickster2k June 6th, 2006, 11:52 PM Broadgate really is out on its own there, quite a distance from the cluster and pretty bulky.
Great stuff James!
wjfox June 7th, 2006, 12:43 AM Broadgate really is out on its own there, quite a distance from the cluster and pretty bulky.
It will hopefully be joined by Northgate though.
Newcastle Guy June 7th, 2006, 12:48 AM Which will be VERY close, ad hopefully even taller!
Jack Rabbit Slim June 7th, 2006, 02:33 AM What is this Northgate skyscraper then?? Any news???
wjfox June 7th, 2006, 08:56 AM Read the summary thread - all the proposals are listed there.

Prestonian June 21st, 2006, 12:16 AM Impressive and shiny! :)
wjfox June 21st, 2006, 12:19 AM Looks like a whole mini-cluster going up to the east of Minerva.
wjfox June 21st, 2006, 08:48 PM What software do you use James?
Are you able to add surface textures?
Btw, I like how you've "adapted" 80-88 Bishopsgate to the correct site footprint. :)
ferge June 21st, 2006, 09:11 PM I shall here on christen the clusty, La Offense... lol, no more holding back, the skyline is for the taking!
gothicform June 23rd, 2006, 03:40 PM yes i can texture them, but imagine what 10,000 buildings with textures would do! imagine how big the model would be. software used is 3ds max, i render it in bryce.
i didnt adapt it for the correct site footprint, apparently it torques so ive done it like that :)
