14 Cornhill looks exactly like the sort of project we need, i like these, like the south conolade at canary wharf.

Nice update btw giaraffemonger.

You really did take the words right outa my mouth there man, exactly what I was going to say. We need more buildings of 14 Cornhill's quality! And I bloody love that south colonnade building at CW!

Nice to see lots of other great projects happening in London besides skyscrapers. Good stuff!

^ Couldn't agree more with the first point. 14 Cornhill's superb by the looks of it. Had no idea that was going up. Thanks for the photos :)

14 cornhill was built a long long time ago- they are just rebuilding the insides to make it suitable for modern office accommodation.

^^ Ah, that would explain it, I was getting ahead of myself, I should have known it looked far too prestigious and grand to be a ground level project going up in London these days...ah well, back to the glass and steel :(

I actually wondered when I first saw it whether it was some internal improvement or redevelopment as you don't see building renders like that anymore these days. Bit of a shame.

Yeah 14 Cornhill is lovely, but I'm pretty sure it's not a newly designed building, I think they've just redeveloped behind the facade which looks like it's from the 1920s or 1930s. Does anybody know whats goin on in the pic taken at the southern end of City Road, this plot had been vacant for ages.

If this is the plot just up from finsbury square with a nice looking victorian building next door then im pretty sure they are building a new travelodge incoporating the victorian building next door.

Ditto ditto! Is it a rebuild, a spared facade or a new building? If it was from scratch my lips would just fall off!

The building, famously known as the headquarters for Singer - the sewing machine manufacturer, will be converted into a 394-bedroom Travelodge hotel with a Bar Café and retail / A3 on the ground floor and basement.

The hotel is expected to open in 2007 and Travelodge will retain a 35- year lease on completion of the development. The £55 million investment is expected to create around one hundred and fifty new jobs. The development will be part new build and part conversion, sympathetically designed to take into account the nature of Lowndes House. The ground floor will include a number of retail outlet and A3 units.

- Lets see the plans.. we'll be the judge of that ;-)
