The complex will provide world-class swimming and diving facilities as well as other aquatic activities such as water polo and synchronised swimming. With the expansion, the capacity of the spectator area has been tripled from 1,500 to 4,500. In addition, parking spaces for 530 cars is available on the west side of the extension. The project, which is now completed, has involved the construction of a three-storey building to house a large new aquatic centre with Olympic-size indoor swimming and diving pools, in addition to the renovation of the existing aquatic centre. The swimming and the diving pools are located on the first basement, while the gym equipment is situated on the second basement. The ground floor of the building houses the administration, locker and changing rooms and the VIP area. The new building is connected to the existing facility at three locations. It is fully equipped with all sophisticated systems such as TV broadcasting, CCTV, BMS, timing system, public address system, UPS, data system, audio-video system, fire-fighting system, HVAC facilities, pools treatment, filtration and backwash, among others. The technical floor houses the HVAC equipment, while the first floor has the main entrances, restaurant and the spectators area. All systems are fully operated and controlled by the BMS system. The curved building consists of two, 92-m-long, steel trusses resting on four elastomeric bearings that are free to move on their respective core walls. The roof is also a curved spaceframe resting on the trusses and covered with aluminium cladding while the external walls are GRC-cladded giving an image of a ship. Internally a selection of blue, grey, and maroon colours were used for the steel structure and spaceframe and matching colours were also used for the spectators seats that creates a colourful arrangement inside. The building includes two main entrances for spectators, four fire escapes, an athletes’ entrance, administration offices, a cafeteria, a (dry) training hall, VIP area and lounge, a competitors’ rest area, lockers, showers, changing rooms, massage, sauna, Jacuzzi, medical area, restaurant, multi-purpose hall, TV and studio rooms, commentators’ rooms, storage areas, 530-slot car parking facilities as well as soft and hard landscaping. http://img169.imageshack.us/img169/2977/aquaticcentreri8.jpg (http://imageshack.us) davy_boy September 2nd, 2006, 06:13 PM Where is this, to the nearest landmark please as my knowledge of the Doha Streets is still in it's infancy! Thanks. zx September 3rd, 2006, 09:47 AM This one was completed years ago; about 5 years ago; I sow it myself. Massilia September 3rd, 2006, 06:50 PM So, is it part of the Sports City complex or is it somewhere else? zx September 4th, 2006, 04:17 PM So, is it part of the Sports City complex or is it somewhere else? Yes it is. I think its very close to the sports tower. wakrah-wi-bas September 4th, 2006, 07:13 PM the location is between khalifa stadium (west) & vilaggio mall, on your right hand going to villagio & hyatt plaza. probably you might be unable to see it now because of some buildings sourronding it, which is part of Aspire academy. but then you can't miss it, the design is traditional & similar to al-zubara fort. |
