Construction on this 16 storey, 55 metre apartment tower in Liverpool St is about to start any day now. Time to launch the thread

Lets start off with an aerial of the site, taken from the Waldorf just up the road. This long and dormant hole in the ground is about to be filled.

There's like a 4 story old building directly across from the site in Liverpool street and when you come out of the lift on the top 2 floors,Level 3 and 4, there is a window you can get photos from. It's a great close view of the excavated hole.

for those who want to see a pic of the Emporio-
The site was excavated in 1988 to make way for a 30storey/90m aprtment tower but it was shelved due to economy. The DA lapsed in early 90's and the precinct had a LEP done on it and now has a 55m height limit (for the step down effect to Darling harbour). The site is Sydney's oldest hole and when work does start it wont come soon enough!

I think the development company is Asian run. I don't know what they are up to. Maybe they are waiting for more sales to ensure that it goes ahead.

I took this shot a year ago today, hoping a tower would rise by now.

Aaa yah! I heard some rat-ta-tat-tat happening deep down from within last Friday.

The boards surrounding the site have basically been stripped.

Over a year ago, the sales office told me it was going back to the drawing boards, literally. Don't know if it will be the same design although the website shows the same.

From memory, the guy said it wasn't major as far as the overall look. I think more internal reconfigs. Too far back, too vague.

I'm just hoping that it looks pretty true to render (as we have it) and doesn't end up as a clumpy Telstra box-like thing.

ah, well still not a hole, but a cleared peice of prime real estate, which actually is going to be approved this week. still cant believe its going to be 4 floors.lol

Passed the site today and it was "abuzz" with activity. The renders that were @ street level on the boards have totally disappeared and hoardings are going up like crazy. I guess once the hoardings are completed, a render or renders will be posted across them. Nice new shiney ones ;)

BTW A x 3. I wouldn't hold my breath about the current George St proposal being stopped.

I'm sure if there were new renders on the hoardings, you may have taken those too. Perhaps premature for that to wish and hope for ATM.

Three weeks and they are already into it. You can see columns that will support the basement levels and they are about to lay the first concrete.

Good shots CC and where did you grab those pics from?

Muse

Gosh Fabian :?

Firstly where on earth can you see the columns? Do you mean the metallic sticks in climbing_cranes first pic post?

Also, where are they about to lay the first concrete?

:? :? :?

Gosh Fabian :?

Firstly where on earth can you see the columns? Do you mean the metallic sticks in climbing_cranes first pic post?

:? :? :?

Yes, indeed it is true! I went for a walk down that way last Tuesday and peered through the hoardings and saw quite a few workers in the pit, installing the reo for the supporting basement columns! So this one could possibly start rising towards street level in the next few weeks! :)

I think we are getting a major advantage in terms of construction stages with this one and Regent Place, in terms of not having to wait for the excavations...which Meriton Tower has proved can be a tiresome and laborious processs. :|

My first photo of work (except I cannot see anything yet) :bash: The site is virtually hoarded up in a way you cannot see anything.

http://www.imagestation.com/picture/sraid118/p6a3f69cd5330099861e1a7dce7e2e068/f87f0486.jpg

However I did see some roadworks being done along Liverpool Street today which was related to work on the development. It was causing a bit of congestion.

Gosh Fabian :?

Firstly where on earth can you see the columns? Do you mean the metallic sticks in climbing_cranes first pic post?

:? :? :?

I forgot to answer this

When I mean't columns, it was the metallic sticks.

As for the corner, it was the NE corner, but after looking again, I'm now not convinced that they were about to do so. It appeared to look like it.

I went by the site again on Thursday Morning. I still cannot see very much as the site is boarded up very well. I did see through a very small hole part of the floorplates for a floor. I'm uncertain how many levels it has to go before reaching ground level. It's definately more than two floors, because even from the bridge over Liverpool Street, you cannot see much of the basement.

The hoardings also have new renders in addition to the existing renders, plus the website is mentioned - www.emporioapartments.com

Fabian
June 17th, 2004, 11:58 AM
I went by the site today and I peered through the same hole as I did last week in Sussex Street. Another basement level has since been laid but there is still a fair way to go before it reaches ground. It has roughly about four levels to go.

Fabian

wow, all these scrapers in Sydney are either below ground or a hole being dug. not much to take pix of.
fabian, dont feel you have to take a pic of a hoarding or crane.
just let the building actually start construction.

We have not much happening @ 9 sites in Sydney >

DP3 (core)
Stamford Marque (hole)
Euro Towers (below grd)
Regent Place (hole)
Meriton Tower (hole)
Aspect (cleared site)
Common (hole)
East (site cleared)
Emporio (hole)
Hilton (nearly done)

even KENS is only a short core.
Latitude tower has teased us with the plantroom for last 2 months, the tower hasnt changed.
the only highrise construction worth taking pix of is BT Tower & Cassia Gardens
patience?? my arse im gonna kill something!! lol

Found out something interesting today. Out of the 177 apartments in the 2 adjoining towers, not one has been sold or pre-commited. The sales office told me today they won't start marketing for quite a few months. Obviously Anson City the developer is quite confident.

The bottom 2 floors of the south-western 16-level tower will be commercial/retail and 1 1/2 floors of the 14-level north-eastern tower, the same.

Since the Emporio website became a flash site, all the renders have disappeared.

Therefore either click on this link for the render/s: Emporio Render (http://www.emporis.com/en/il/im/?id=187152)

the bldg in background is the Harbour Garden Towers. it overlooks Chinese Gardens.
The height restrictions around D Harbour are for planning reasons. the planners want the bldgs to "step" down to the harbour so it has form.
That area has a 55m/15storey height limit.

Yep love the glasswork on this one, small shame about it being white, even though it was expected. Nonetheless great to see this long dormant hole having been turned into more of a city feel.

Nice pics, and didn't realise this had actually come so far!

It's starting to look like a modern mulit-storey hospital, especially the south face with the long lines of windows.

I think I like it! :)

Thanks sirhc8!!

Yes, I don't mind this one. It's a lot better than the other crap clogging this area. I like the rounded vertical element and the recessed balconies. The colour treatment to the windows is also "not too bad".

Hey, it could have been a lot worse... and it fills a CBD black hole that's been around for a while now. Win win :D

Better than most!!

This'll free up some Grocon employees/contractors for other sites. :)

OMG A X-city tunnel road sign in sirhc8's pic, pointing traffic west to go east!! What a topsy-turvy world :dizzy:

On the topic of the sign, what is the M1?

sirhc8
May 24th, 2005, 08:17 AM
M1 = eastern distributor

What ever happened to the Metroad signs (hexagons)? Wasn't the Eastern Distributor Metroad 5?

(sorry for the off-topic-ness...)

Metroad 5 finishes where the M5 east meets Southern Cross Drive(which meets the ED). Metroad 1 goes from there to the F3.

Wow! They got this one up fast considering how long they stuffed around between announcement and commencement of construction! (I am ignoring that hole that was there since the beginning of time.) Yes, it is a cut above much else in its area, especially the A-BLOODY-PPALING "Millenium" by Meriton.

I'm satisfied the way this one's turned out, regardless of what I said before. It's a rather smart design, and yes I agree Brizer, it's been bloody fast in construction after a protracted pre-construction phase!

HURRAH! HURRAH!

Any of the public that are into aesthetics and in the area will be rewarded by the look of this number. It certainly draws your attention away from some of the crap that's in the area.

I mentioned in an earlier post that it looks like a (modern) hospital. I now know why it does. It has similar form to that very "cross over of art deco into modern" style that 1 or 2 of the RPA hospital buildings have on Missenden Rd. Emporio being far superior though.

The Liverpool St facade is really attractive IMHO. The 5 staffs evenly placed at the top on that side give it a quite regal and majestic look. They can be seen in a pic that sirhc8 posted on May 9.

It has been worth the wait. :)

I drove past it on Sussex Street and it has a really nice atrium/foyer.

There's a lot of design details in the facade too.

Nice development!
