Construction in Dubai keeps going very well in spite of the crysis, especially the Infinity Tower. :)

I would only recommend u to visit these towers if you bring your camera with you, take a shitload of pictures and then write an amazing report of your visit to this building. Otherwise I don't think it would be worth visiting.

Infinity's construction methods might be smilar to Chicago Spire. This can give us an idea how CS would like if it was U/C.

^^ No, it's not. CS was supposed to be a steel structure, while this is a reinforced concrete one.

It appears the concrete pumps are more like a tower crane on this building.
This is the first time I've noticed this set up. Is this common or a new building method?

It's a normal set up, with a concrete pump AND a towercrane located inside the core. They will both rise up with the tower, so nothing special, just like other towers.

I guess that twisting prisms are the flavor of the month in supertall architecture, given the number of people in this thread who have likened this to the Turning Torso as if they were the first to think of the comparison.

Still, I rather like the cladding here, and would certainly love to experience the sun playing off it.

Great overhead picture. I hope we'll have more of those in the future. It's nice to see progress on the basement levels as well. I hope we'll see some steel rising around the core in the coming months too.

The core and basement do seem to be rising very quickly. Of course it probably wouldn't seem so fast if we were getting photo updates as frequently as we do for Burj Dubai. :)

I wonder if they will eventually restore the bank back to the way it was before the breach occurred? Right now it gives them more room for staging, so they might not restore it until the building is nearly complete, if they do at all.

I guess they will do that after finishing the building or at least in the very end. Always welcome, some extra space. Does anyone know what kind of construction they will use at this tower, or is everything cast in place like every other project in Dubai? I hope something special is used for a challenging project like this with every floor a different floorplan.. Any thoughts?

Arabtec is doing an excellent job. They are pretty fast. The core has already reached 12th floor. :)

whats up with the roundness of the core? Is that to acommadate the twist or has that been thrown out the window.

It seems like this will really be the infinity tower :ohno: the retaining wall collapse was somewhat comical, but now this is just sad...

We will see what happens.

It might be nothing, just a rumour.

It might be a hiccup and there won't be any long term problems.

Investors might not be able to pay their installments which means the cashflow is stopping. (this is the worst since if this is the reason for the stall, expect it to happen to most of the other towers as well).

since ive seen a documentation about dubai im no more sorry for dubai getting killed.
im sorry for the buildings, but thats all. what they are doing doesnt deserve success. well all you dubai fanatics hate me now, but thats just my opinion, since i live in a free country im allowed to have one.

I love this tower but the plot of land that it is going to be on does seem really small... Hope there is enough room for pools, parking, gardens, and other things, haha. (:

^^ I am sure they got it figured it out. I have seen a several really tiny buildings here in downtown Seattle has everything fit in within less than an acres of land. Anything is possible. :)

Yesterday evening we went to Sloane's restaurant at the Grosvenor House again. Trying to count the number of workers on the site of Infinity I gave up and assume its roughly 200, probably more :cheers2:

What I find strange is that there is a hoist next to the core instead of IN the core. Now in each floor there will be holes for the hoist, it will cost lots of time to repair that, I think. I don't know what the possibilities are to put the hoist into the core but I believe that would be a better option..

^^Maybe it has something to do with constructionelevators inside the core. I can imagine because of the twisting design, outside elevators are not possible. Normally the crane will go inside elevatorshafts but in this case maybe they need them for the constructionelevators. Time will tell if this is true.

Well, with hoist I ment construction elevator; there is one outside the core, not really logical I think. But indeed, maybe there are more elevators inside as well..

I'd imagine the top of the core is just a sea of rebar! It's a shame the slipform structure is hiding it. Fantastic design and a tower I am actually looking forward to seeing in Dubai. :)

I would say top out in 2 years. One floor per week with a half year extra time.. So top out early 2011, sounds realistic.

The construction of the main structure is weird. 6 or 4....? Difficult to count the floors...But nicely twisting...So only the floors of the core can easily to count - level 14! Great!

True, but they've begun focusing on building the floors out instead of raising the core. It'll resume rising once the floors catch up. No need to worry.

The plot on which Infinity Tower is being built sticks out a little from the rest of the marina I think... That would make it stand out much more

It will definitely stand out. There is only one plot next to it, and that will remain empty for at least the coming years, because the project scheduled to be built (Damac Heights) is cancelled.

why are they still pumping water out? isnt the hole filled with the tower?

Guess they haven't finished sealing the basement levels. It's probably mainly ground water that is still being pumped out from a well beneath concrete slab. I wouldn't be surprised if the building doesn't end up with one or more permanent sump pumps to remove ground water that manages to find a way into the basement.

I think they can sealing the basement after construction is over. Nearly all buildings under construction at the marina pumping water into the sea.

For example: Just have a look to the under construction building "Grosvenor House - The Residence" (in the same pic - at the opposite side from infinity tower at the marina). It also pumping water in the marina.
