I love the Infinities cladding. *.* I wasnt sure in first place, but now it looks very very good. On of the few Dubai buildings i am excited abt., all along with the Pentominium :/ . The Conrad on the SZR is another awesome addition.

On the last two photos, there are now concrete elements that differ from what has happened so far: the inner facade gets slight ornaments with convex curves, while the overall mainly concave shape of below is kept with huge steel fins all around. I've only found an indication of this on two of the Infinity Tower renderings.

I really love this tower! Was at Dubai Marina the other week and it definitely feels taller than 300m and feels like it's going to topple over at any minute!

^^ It's not a render, it's a model (pictured by me, back in 2005 BTW), and no, it does not show any cross bracing ..... though it's irrelevant, since the model rapresented the concept design of the building only.

Not only grey - it's almost getting orange on the right side there due to the dust.

Both the Infinity and Princess tower will be somewhat more shiny / mat silver once they've received their scrub after completion. you can already see how shiny the material really is when the sun is reflecting in it. Compare the color of Infinity on the lower part in the above pic with Princess (pretty much the same). on the princess tower it is best visible on the round balconies in the penthouse section, since most other cladding is flat and doesn't show the reflections as well. Infinity shows the reflections better due to the twist. Plus, those panels towards the top have been installed quite recently and therefore are pretty clean still.

You're right, Imre. Cayan have just announced a new completion date of July 2012, six months late, citing "late customer payments and some defaults". Worth waiting for, though.

Funny to see all those scaffoldings around the steel beams.:)

Or even in thin air (right top). ;)

Must be quite scary being there if you are afraid of heights, but the view would be priceless. :)

You know, I think that being inside this tower, near the top, and looking down is going to be one of the best views of it. Certainly one of the most likeable towers in Dubai Marina.

I can't wait to see the fully cladded Infinity and Evolution from Moscow! Still can't decide which one is better.

Actually the whole area very badly planned , just a small road there and when everthing ready it would be a nightmare , just imagine , Princess Tower , Torch,Emirates Crown , Mariott Hotel, Infinity Tower , Damac Heighs will use that road... to find a parking space will be a miracle there :)

And still the huge land there (aka Emaar sales centre and car park) probably another 4-5 towers sometime in the future..

That tower is the future star of dubai...i guess although it s in the Marina, the rents are gonna be skyrocketing, just as high as in burj khalifa

funny weather today. hazy weather front hitting JBR. air rising just enough to condensate and form those small clouds close to the ground before the haze moves in entirely.

infinity is gorgeous without a doubt but i can't help but notice that curious looking third tallest tower. it's way too ugly to be close to the infnity and stand among that tall cluster!!

Sorry to go slightly off topic but in a lot of these pictures there's a concrete flyover structure passing close to the tower, parallel to the elevated road, that seems to end in mid-air. Can anyone tell me what it is? Future road or metro line?

I thought it was meant to connect to / provide access to the Dubai Promenade development by Nakheel. I doubt we will see any direct links to the Palm Jumeirah. Maybe to Dubawi, but not beyond that....

maybe, but at the same time hong-kong or Shanghai (which most new towers of Pudong are as new as Dubai's) do have hundreds of towers...and for some reason their skyline appear to be more diverse, despite you can still find a few tacky towers here and there

Maybe by tacky ParadiseLost means "lack of creativity" in the design/cladding

also some towers in Dubai are exceptionnal : O14 , Emirates Towers, Burj Al Arab, Infinity come to my mind....BUT they are in different parts of the city and belong to skylines which do not help to congratulate them much (well Burj Al Arab is an exception since it's isolated)

and to finish all of you guys know the great new skyline of Doha...how come they managed there to bring new and very iconic towers in such a little amount of time (yes i know they have much less towers than Dubai) ? Even Abu dhabi is putting some effort of the quality side

I have been to Shanghai. It might seem more diverse, but its been around a little bit longer as well. It also has its fair share of 'ugliness' or 'tackiness'.

^^guys, let's not forget the marina towers are ALL residential. you're comparing aples and oranges. you take some of the most expensive downtown businss skylines and compare them with residential units. way to go.

sure those shiny reflecting glass facades look cool. and the round shapes. but how the hell would they fit in an all residential area?

If you live or invest in a residential skyscraper, you WILL put certain aspects on the top of your priority list like:

- is my floor plan layout maximizing usable space? (round shapes are much more wasteful)
- does my unit have a balcony?
- do my windows open or will I be locked in breathing bloody circulated aire like in Burj Khalifa? Look at the Doha skyline and find open windows in those nice shiny facades. it takes a few hourse to get the smell out of your apartment after cooking dinner for your family using the AC only.
- can I afford the damn thing? (go ahead and google price per square meter in one of those pretty shiny towers, then compare to dubai marina. ouch.)

now go and find a list of residential skyscraper much nicer looking than 'The Torch Tower' for instance to be placed in your imaginative marina. and make it afordable at $2,500 per square meter. not so easy to be honest. by the way, Infinity is considerable more expensive obviously and not even done.

anyways, I personally find numerous towers in the marina really cool in design.

True hong-kong residential towers are way uglier. I think the nice setting of the hong kong peninsula help to make them less visible (mountains etc)....plus a block of great shiny towers often hide those ugly residential units

All in all, you are right, Marina towers are not bad for what they are...plus the marina/sea setting adds a lil bit of magic to the whole thing

I can't wait to see infinity all illuminated, it sure will help to qualify night marina skyline

Gradually they remove all the scaffolding stuff of the sides.

That cladding looks incredibly complex, haven't seen anything like it before! Shows that a lot of thought was put into this tower!

The difference between Hong Kong's massive seas of ugly uninspired residential towers and Dubai's 300m tall tacky resis is that those in Hong Kong while far greater in number don't scream for attention (and it's the brilliant buildings who do). Agreed. I've lived in New York and Toronto. Both skylines consist mostly of boxes, yet look brilliant to me.

The Dubai marina has that bunch of boring boxes at JBR. A mix between the boxes and the design towers would have looked easier on the eye.

They recently took down the exterior construction elevator. Work is progressing. It does seem to be taking a long time to finish the crown and finally top this building out. But I wouldn't say it hasn't progressed.

It has actually progressed a lot lately, the cladding has gone up very fast and is at the top now, so we should see the crown being finished soon as there focus will be on that now and not the cladding. :)

So if the render is accurate, then they are at the point of the red arrows (where the diagonal support columns end) and have four "floors" left? Or is the render wrong and the diagonal supports go all the way to the top? Perhaps the diagonals are temporary and will be removed?

Forgive me if this has already been answered. They have been working on this crown for so long that I'd probably have to sift through 50 pages to find the answer. This tower started out slow due to the flood, then shot up like a rocket, and then hit a brick wall.

There happens a lot on the tower, but not in terms of climbing.

Forget old renders, They're just for demostration purposes. What's there now is the highest the tower goes IMO.

Damn nice tower!

Cladding could have better look then this.....

Although a novel enough design, and in a fine setting, ultimately to me this looks like what happens when you sneak up behind a skyscraper and tap it on the shoulder... :bash:

Still, looking forward to seeing this finished and tidied up :)

one of the prices u pay for the twist. it's by far the tallest twisted, but any higher would up the cost dramatically I reckgon. one of the reasons to build straight like Marina 101.

42nd 04 unit awaiting bedroom/livingroom divider, different to floor plan (they weren't too sure if the whole balcony would be in the bedroom, if so the living room would be very narrow, different to 7th floor one. They might do some kink in the wall to give an odd space which they seem to love doing. Just shows how random the specific floor plans for the apartments are on the website compared to the actual reality.

Cayan woman reckons Dec 2012 completion, the common areas are still VERY raw. Thing which bothered me is damac heights will be going up for next 5-10yrs right next door so it will be a very dusty building site area especially as approach is right past that site, sitting by the pool anyone would be analysed by the workers on the tower next to it which may put tenants off. Apartments on marina side are fine but any on damac heights side will be able to flick peanuts onto their balcony.
