View Full Version : Too many Aussies in Vancouver?
gee_gnome June 7th, 2006, 09:09 AM I am a 24yo Aussie guy who is moving to Vancouver to play some rugby and hopefully get a job in my profession. Recently (after buying my ticket and getting my visa) I have been told how there are tonnes of Australians in BC, which is the last thing I wanted to here. Are there going to be heaps of Aussies in Vancouver, or is this phenomenon more confined to the ski resorts? Am I going to be Just Another Fcking Aussie??
mr.x June 7th, 2006, 09:14 AM Aussies are awesome!!!!! Welcome to British Columbia!
There are quite a few of Australians in the province, especially at ski resorts. If you go to Whistler, many of the visitors and employees are Australian.

whistler is aussie central
furrycanuck June 7th, 2006, 06:31 PM Australians are absolutely TROUNCED by other nationalities in Vancouver and elsewhere in Canada. Unless you specifically choose to hang around with Aussies, they will be easy to avoid.
Everything is relative- yes, you see a lot of people on WHVs in places like Banff (my orientation since I live in Calgary) but to say "tonnes" when Vancouver has (for example) about 400,000 Chinese is completely preposterous. There is a fair handful of Aussies in ski resorts and the like but they're still a tiny, tiny minority of people living anywhere in Canada.

Yes. ~ :)
Plumber73 June 8th, 2006, 02:46 AM You might see some Aussies while you are playing rugby, just a hunch. Other than that, very few and far between. Except Whistler...
Btw, what don't you like about your fellow mates? It's wierd, because I used to work with an Aussie and he had the same sort of attitude. He didn't like something about the women or something to that effect.
gee_gnome June 8th, 2006, 05:27 AM It's not like I don't like Australia or other Australians, but when heading overseas I want to meet the people of that country, learn their idiosyncracies etc. Also, Australians (probably including myself) tend to act the goose when travelling - pretty loud and obnoxious - so it is a bit of a 'cultural cringe' when you hear a loud Australian accent.
Kev the burninator June 8th, 2006, 05:29 AM I love aussies... It should not be an issue.

Huhu June 11th, 2006, 07:59 AM It seems like the only Aussies in Vancouver are those on their way to Whistler. I've bumped into some on the bus from the airport once, they're really loud and like to joke around so the whole bus could hear them. But it's not like they were being offensive so no one really minded.
