View Full Version : The next theme park should have one of these...
Locke June 9th, 2006, 08:01 AM A skiDubai! We are sister cities after all!
No more expensive that a typical tallie and enviromentally sound so the ecomentallists wouldn't mind.
Slot this in somewhere near Movieworld and it would go gangbusters I reckon.
I'm throwing the idea out there for some developer to grab;)

DeejayT June 9th, 2006, 08:49 AM Funny, I was having the same thought when I was driving in the hinterland the other day! But frozen world didn't to well down here!
I think the best way to build it here is build it down the side of a mountain near robina. Only 20 minute drive from Surfers! That way you'd save on the construction costs and not worry about structual supports for elevations. But cutting down the trees probablly isn't the best enviormental move.
Locke June 9th, 2006, 09:54 AM Hehe, yes I think we are talking a slightly different scale than frozen world:P But then SkiDubai only cost 300 mill US, which is less than something like Southport Central cost (which cost 700 million Aus), so not too pricey really.
A hill would be handy, but even without it it's not that expensive. Main thing is it would have to be BIG, a bit bigger than the one in Dubai just to grab the headlines. To me it makes more sense than building another waterpark in Dreamworld, and why go ski in NSW/VIC or overseas when you could do it here.
Just an idea mind you, I would be quite happy with a Universal studios or Disneyland here altenatively or in addition as well (Disney were here a year back for some scouting, hopefully something comes of that).
DalbyCity June 9th, 2006, 09:55 AM that would be an awesome idea! a large percentage of queensland and i dare say northern nsw would have never seen snow before, and this would be a great opportunity! not to mention all the tourists who'd love the novelty.
Robina would be a pretty good location, relatively central. I would definitely go.
SUNNI June 9th, 2006, 09:56 AM how much would it cost to build one of these??
LA53R June 9th, 2006, 11:44 AM Awesome idea, haahaha screw Disneyland i wan't a bloody indoor snowplace.
Infact just build a dome over a whole mountain and set up an entire snow town :D
Stocko June 9th, 2006, 01:58 PM umm good idea, but unlike dubai we can ski in our own country and most ppl would probably pick mount hotham over that. Indoor ski places tend to be expensive to go to and the runs are really short.
I would rather a tall building or a disney world lol, if i want to ski i would prefer a mountain.
Aussie Bhoy June 9th, 2006, 02:07 PM The Swiss building at Expo 88 had a similiar but much, much smaller version.

Macca-GC June 10th, 2006, 07:34 AM There was a snow thing proposed at Advancetown(out near Hinze Dam) a couple of years back, but it was rejected.
mannix_10 June 10th, 2006, 08:12 AM Imagine the insulation in the roof they would have to use in summer in QLD... :runaway: Dunno how Dubai does it when it gets up to 50 degrees there!
Trances June 11th, 2006, 02:29 PM Labour cost would make it cost so much more in Australia
aussie2000 July 4th, 2006, 10:13 AM Adelaide's got an indoor snowplace, it's got two ice skating rinks, and a ski sloap, only one, but i enjoy going there all the time, it's the first Australian indoor snow place, called the Snow Dome (formally Mount Thebatan)
