Believe it or not this is one of my favorite skyscrapers in Latin America and ranks high in my favorite skyscrapers period. There is something so reminiscent of the Chrysler Building, but something so uniquely Latin American about it. It's truly one of the more defining skyscrapers of this metropolis. I gave it an 8/10 for it's unique beauty.

The antennae (Or spire?) at the top reminds me of the Empire state building in New York. For a '50's building, it's very nice.

This is a symbol for MC, it was built over the worst terrain for a skyscraper and it's engineering has won prizes being one of the oldest skyscrapers that have resisted more earthquakes in history without suffer any damage!

http://skyscraperpage.com/gallery/data/3071/34latinoamericana1.jpg

Right now is being remodeled, the glass will be changed and there will be a new restaurant at top with more attractive at the observation deck like new telescopes.

The shape is like a Latin American Empire State quite international or postmodern.. humm.

For the design I'd give it a 7, considering it was built in 1956 (it was one of the 7 tallest in the world OUTSIDE the USA at that time), the glass facade was also quite futuristic for the time (Lever house, NY's first glass-covered is only a couple of years older). However, the structural design is quite remarkable: It is the only skyscraper in the world that has resisted a +7 Richter scale earthquake (1957) and a +8 same scale earthquake (1985), besides dozens of smaller quakes, for that I'd give it a 10. So, (10+7)/2= 8.5

I dont like it. I think it would get MUCH better if it had reflective glasses. The way it is, it gets a "dirty" aspect because you can see the interior of the building, and each room has different colors and such.

With reflective glass, this tower would be MUCH BETTER. Just that. Reflective glass.

Some facts...

At the time of completion, this was the tallest building in Latin America.
Torre Latinoamericana is a member of the World Federation of Great Towers.
The elevators are operated manually by building staff.
The name of the building has its origin in the name of an insuring company, La Latinoamericana Seguros. They both own and continue to work in the tower.
The top three floors contain the second tallest public observatory in the city. An aquarium is also part of the structure.

i give this building points for its historical significance. it's pretty tall compared to all the other buildings that were built in the 50s. it'd be nice if they can renovate it a bit so it won't be as bleak.
