AED 1 BILLION ‘DUBAI SUNNY MOUNTAIN SKIDOME’ TO BRING THE ARCTIC WINTER EXPERIENCE TO DUBAILAND

Project owned, developed and promoted by 32Group to be operational in 2006

Dubai – UAE: 32Group has stepped forward to bring Arctic winter experience and winter sports to Dubailand in a unique project that is estimated to cost more than AED 1 billion.

A huge ‘ski dome’ shall rise from the skyline of Dubai’s mega tourism development project and will open to the skiing public in 2006. The project will be called ‘Dubai Sunny Mountain Skidome’.

An agreement to set up the project was signed by Director General of Dubai Development and Investment Authority (DDIA) on behalf of Dubai Tourism Development Company - which shall manage the AED 18 billion Dubailand – and Chairman and President of 32Group.

The Government and private sector partnership in Dubai is legendary and a model for other states to follow. The government provided an opportunity with the announcement of Dubailand on October 21 - and 32Group was among the first companies to step forward and realise its potential.

“We are delighted that 32Group is bringing a unique project that will add value to the region’s most comprehensive and largest tourism, leisure and entertainment development. This is a win-win situation for all – for 32Group, for Dubai and for all the people who will get to enjoy themselves at Dubai Sunny Mountain Skidome,” Al Muntafiq, pointed out.

Unique Experience
Dubai Sunny Mountain Skidome will be the first of its kind in the Middle East, and will provide a real and complete winter experience that touches all senses, providing a wide range of activities for people of all ages.

The project consists of a dome – a steel structure – that will include a huge revolving ski slope, going through and around an artificial mountain range – created to emphasize the “Arctic Experience” effect. It will also have a deluxe hotel, a shopping mall, restaurants, coffee shops and other retail outlets, etc.

The architectural design of the hotel will be iceberg-like.

Two huge real-ice columns will mark the entrance to the dome. Within the dome, there will be all kind of Arctic experiences, ranging from Pinguinarium, winter aquaria, snow castle, ice-rink, Arctic animals statues, 4-season aquaria, snowfall, sound and light effects, cold and warm bath spa and other facilities and attractions.

The project will be spread over a 1.4 million sq. ft. plot within the Dubailand -Attractions and Experiences World.

Real Snow
The skidome will feature only real snow - no chemicals. Skiing will be made possible in a pleasant ambient temperature of around +10 degrees Centigrade. Skiers will be taken with a cable lift to the top of a ski slope where they can enjoy the beautiful view and the restaurants.Click To Check (http://32group.com/)

Crazy, I just have a bitter taste in the mouth when it comes to any 'proposed' projects in Q8 - especially if they seem as exciting as this.

We have been let down so many times in the past by the 'backward' thinking and logistic nightmare of approvals etc.

Some extremist will no doubt start waving his hands and call it haram because women will have to wear 'tight' Snow jackets or something....wait and see.

From a business perspective, Kuwait is a very difficult place to live if you want to get anywhere in life. It's all about grid locking, obstacles, red tape and wasta unfortunately.

If, however, you are content with just living a normal life, as a regular worker who goes to his job from 9-5 everyday, it's a lot more appealing.

Kuwait is a frustrating place simply because there is too much money here. Too much money causes people to become lazy, unproductive, uninventive and greedy.

It's sad really, the country has so much potential, all they need to do is relax the laws and cut out the corruption and it would be a far better place to both live and do business.

I heard, maybe read, somewhere that the ice dome/ski slope was supposed to built Kuwait before dubai. It was supposed to be in place of that new mosque opposite shamiya (the extension of the green belt park). If someone has baladiya gossip and info they can help us out here :)

I don't find it as exciting a project as some put it. The proposed project in Kuwait will be 16,000 meters squared. That is NOTHING (especially when compared to Dubai's project- 1 and a half million squared meters). We NEED to make a similar project to the one in Dubai with about the same amount of land, not a small piece of land. Come on- Kuwait is smarter than that (at least business like).

However, it WILL be an addition to Kuwait (and who knows it may be an exciting one)

You'd be shocked how many of 'Kuwait's projects' were scrapped and sold or implemented to Dubai.

The Jumiera Palm was supposed to be the Kuwait Palm.

Wow, we actually agree on something. :drunk:

I am happy that you are disappointed. This is the first step to reform.

Kuwait has so much money, so many resources and yet still continues to focus its efforts on International commerce. There is a new Kuwaiti fund which is trying to raise close to a Billion $ (by Private Placement) to invest in the upcoming Dubai Land Project.

Doesn't that make you angry?

Who told you I wasn't disappointed by our government and lack of EXCITING projects in the first place. It's just that I have different views than you do (and you being the ultimate defender of freedom of speech won't have a problem with that-although reading several of your messages you are with freedom of speech if it's on your side but against it if it's against you.

It does make me angry that Kuwaiti money is being invested in Dubai. We are really 3ain 3athaary-tasgee lib3eed wit5alee ilgereeb. I really get pissed of when I hear of proposed projects and capital money implemented somewhere else. So anyway this one billion dollars SHOULD be invested in Kuwait. The only thing we can do is be HOPEFUL.

Well there is no guarantee they will get anywhere close to the mark, as again, it's Private placement.

Wrong.

I believe in freedom of CHOICE. There is a very big difference.

Let's use the old example of alcohol. IF I, you or anyone else want to have a drink - that's their choice - not mine, yours or anyone else's.

Anyone can have freedom of SPEECH, I can say what I want - without the expecation of getting arrested.....

Extremely insane to build this thing!! Q8 already has electricity problem, how are they going to build something which would probably require a power plant of its on to run it (running this thing would require alot of power to keep the place cool. Besides what's there to prove if this thing is built? that snow can be available in desert? Anyone into skiing or snowboarding wouold definetly want to travel to swiss or Lebanon rather than Q8. In short, I say scrap it and use the money for something more meaningful.

yba, this electricity problem is not cuz of how many buildings being built, it's cuz ppl have no respect 2 the law, and expand their power supply 2 a dewnia or whatever that is on the public land, and the ministry of power doesn't even have any idea that this house is expanding it's electricity 2 a dewania that is not supposed 2 be there a9lan le2ana met3adia 3ala ara'9i eldawla, so electricity and water problems is not only the governments fault it's also the ppl fault, kelena mas2oleen 3an hal ehmal ele fe baladna, a7na yebna elbala 7ag ro7na, that's y dubai is better than us, cuz we talk and eat 2 much and never work, most ppl talk about corruption and they do corruption more than anyone else, kelwa7ed ege6 eloom 3althani.

all the projects that were supposed 2 be in q8 and went somewhere else, it's cuz we have 2 much corruption in q8, it takes atleast 2 years 2 get the approvals from all the ministries, u need wasta 2 get ur project approved, this country is corrupted that's y the q8i companies invest their money outside, cuz if they invested it inside, there is a 75% possiblity that they could loose money or not get their project approved, all the projects that were supposed 2 be in q8 and went 2 dubai, they went 2 dubai 4 a reason, cuz most of the companies that made the projects went through hell just trying 2 get the approval from the government, but it's no use(ha7ache men elsab3enat), el9ara7a i dont blame the q8i companies investing their money out of the country, ya3ne etha enta thamen 5asartek o tadre belbeaurocracy ele ebdertek, y do u risk it, and beleive me some of those companies risked it but still no use.

cant believe i posted here and missed your comment.

yeah the extremist would wave his hands lol...

ill tell you why, because some women (ive seen in dubai also) wore spandex body suit. now spandex is what people wear in speed-skating. ever watched speed-skating and youll know how tight it is lol. but obviously its tight for aero-dynamics and for muscle warmth/strength.

but the extremists wont find its scientific purpose lol. itll take time to infiltrate the head

==========

nevertheless, thats the least of our worries.

kuwait isnt an enthusiastic country. i remember seeing a map showing corruption. from dark green to dark red. dark red indicating too much corruption... well... we were red lol...

kuwait needs motivation, but boy thatll take time. every body in kuwait digs a "hole" for the other person. a nice kuwaiti saying lol :D

so any progress on this guys? i think we defi. need this. an indoor snowdome would be great, as snow sports such as skiing and snowboarding are very popular, and would defi. have a positive affect on the tourism industry that we are tryign to create in kuwait.

i noticed some people made negative comments about it and said that its useless. well i certainly think not, it will be great, and, i'd rather have a snowdome over another 5 malls. we need more activities and things to do in kuwait, driving up and down sharah khaleej isn't good enough :bash: and is defi. not going to be an appealing point to potential tourists :P
