i'll be moving to toledo in august for law school. it's now june and i have yet to secure a place to live. i'm an older student (30+) so i'm not trying to live anywhere near the coeds. also, being from a large urban city (philly) i'm thinking that the downtown area is where i'll feel most comfortable. after some web-browsing, i've become quite curious about the hillcrest. i like the price, the size of the units, and the location. what's the story on this building? what about the surrounding area?
btw, if you know of any better options, let me know. thanx.

I used to live in Toledo. The Hillcrest was okay when I was there, never heard many complaints. Although there isnt much of an "entertainment district" near UT so students end up coming downtown anyway to hang out but I dont think they come too close near the Hillcrest, unless things have recently changed.

Depending on what you are looking for:
If you are renting in the downtown area--look at Hillcrest, LaSalle, Riverview Towers, Sunflower Lofts (Ontario & Lafayette), Commodore Perry
If you are looking to buy in the downtown area (great tax abatement program)--Bartley Lofts, Huron Lofts, Ottawa Lofts, RiverWest Townhomes
Elsewhere in the Toledo region near the UT campus--Old Orchard neighborhood---plenty of houses to rent and very quaint area which is located along north of Bancroft, west of douglas, south of Central and east of Secor.
Kenwood/Ottawa neighborhood which is near the Toledo Hospital and Ottawa Park--houses to rent and located north of Kenwood, west of Upton, south of Central and east of Douglas
Old West End neighborhood which is 2 miles west of downtown in a cluster of high concentration of Victorian homes and the Toledo Museum of Art; there are Museum Place which is a jewel and rent from Executive Tower and Park Lane Luxury Apartments as well. There is abundance of duplexes to rent or even houses to rent within this neighborhood.
And finally you could look in the Westgate area which there is several condos and townhomes to rent or buy along Central Avenue west of the Westgate Shopping Center going toward Ottawa Hills or along Executive Parkway behind the commercial/retail developments
Anything else like other areas or further details--let me know. I have a best friend who graduated from the UT Law School in 2004 and now he's living in Denver working for Attorney General's office.
