Pune is simply amazing. :cheers: We've always looked at
Pune for office space. We currently have an office in Mumbai (Andheri). Does anyone in this forum know a decent broker/firm that can point me out to a few good residential properties in Pune? I am looking to purchase an apartment/condo in India and Pune's projects have impressed the heck out of me. Some of the buildings are jaw dropping with great designs. :eek2: Is there a website where most of the pune residential buildings are listed with details of amenities like golf courses, sports facilties, swimming pools, landscaping features, car parking facilities etc. ? Also, if someone can recommend a broker he or she personally knows, I'd be very grateful for that.

After missing the IT boom of the '90s, the city is trying to make up for lost time.

It must be a sign of the times hanging on a modest, single-storied house 12 km from Pune. “Rooms vacant,” says the handwritten board pinned to the gate, “Only IT and BPO professionals need apply.

That signboard in a rural hamlet might have seemed bizarre a few years ago. Not any longer. This is Hinjewadi, off the Mumbai Pune Expressway, and one of the hottest information technology (IT) destinations mushrooming in Maharashtra.

It boasts an IT park, where the rural and contemporary reside side by side. With a population of barely 1,500 people, the village, surrounded by hills and paddy fields still has a rural feel with buffaloes ambling about aimlessly against the backdrop of a furiously pumping tubewell.

But Hinjewadi is moving into the 21st century at high speed. The once ramshackle homes which are now doubling up as eateries are getting a fresh coat of paint. And builders have moved in to woo the big buck IT professionals who are taking over the village.

Hinjewadi’s around 500-acre Rajeev Gandhi Technology Park is already home to scores of IT, IT-enabled services (ITES) and business process outsourcing (BPO) units. And hordes of others are on the way. From new companies to existing ones which are expanding, they are all heading to Pune and its outskirts.

Tata Technologies, KPIT Systems, Cognizant and Geometrix Solutions have already set up base here. And the country’s two best-known IT heavyweights — Infosys and Wipro — have sprawling campuses.

Hinjewadi isn’t the only place exerting a magnet-like charm on the IT industry. There are 18 IT parks slated to come up at distances of anywhere between 8km to 20km from Pune and others are also in the pipeline. There will soon be IT parks in once-sleepy villages like Talawde and Kharadi.

If all goes well, even the industrial belt of Talegaon is being considered for an IT hub. According to the Software Technology Parks of India (STPI) data, the private sector alone is building 15 IT parks.

Now, the government has put in a proposal to build an airport at Chakan, 15 km from Pune on 1,000 hectares of land. The civil aviation ministry has given an in principle clearance but the final formalities are being worked out.

It's a mall mania in Pune, with five lakh square feet of mall space operational by August 5. All within a two-km stretch, from Bund Garden Road to Dr Ambedkar Road.

That's not all: the hypermarkets are also eyeing the city, from Spencers (the RPG group's Giant now in a name changed 'avatar', Spencers Hypermarket), the Tata group's Star, to the Rahejas. Of course, these will be located further out, on the Nagar Road.

Retail market space, of the high end kind is also just set to explode in the city, with developments in the eastern and western suburbs. In the eastern suburb of Kalyaninagar, a Gold Adlabs, three-screen multiplex is coming up. The focus here is food 'n' entertainment, with McDonald's, Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC), Cafe Coffee Day, Baskin Robbins, a Jammin' entertainment centre and an Archies gift store under the same roof.

Vascon's eight-storey Nucleus faces Kakde's lower rise mall, just off Dr Ambedkar Road. The contrast will be stark when the two are fully ready, of the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) allowing a higher structure and the Pune Cantonment Board (PCB) a lower height, across the road. The Kakde mall will house the relocated Westside (from its existing location in Dorabjees) in bigger premises.

On Bund Garden Road is Kumar Builders mall and Pantaloon's Poona Central, part of its 'Cetnral' brand of stores. Just off the Bund Garden Road, on Boat Club road, is Gera Plaza, now a speciality mall, just for women. There is another 1.5 lakh sq ft development in the locality, currently in litigation.

While all the developers have promised car parking, they have all learned from experience that what they promise is never enough. This time, the road widening by the civic authorities is being used to ensure there is adequate parking, with no repeat of the nightmare of a famous mall in Mumbai.

Builders and developers are therefore ensuring that the widened roads are not grabbed by hawkers; instead, these areas will be used for parking spill-over from the malls. In the Cantonment area, therefore, what once were bridle paths, will now become parking lots.

These look more like the foundation of synthetic race tracks, probably for an upcoming college or a sports complex. Look at the viewers stand on the left.

Plus the comparative size of the arc-shaped building on the top-right looks much smaller than the graphic.

Yeah, doesn't look like it, besides there's this finished circular building on the website, which is nowhere to be seen here.

Its not much in news bcoz of its bigger cousin Mumbai which takes away the bigger pie...but its a really gr8 for this city and its development even though its not a state capital like other major cities..its like a big city in a small area....with full of youngsters from all over India and abroad..as its a big educatoinal city ( it has the highest number of foreign students in India, so many that, they have a football tournament every yr for only foreign students & almost students from 11 countries have their foorball teams)...unfortunately there arent many pics for Pune like other cities..and its pretty green too with numerous gardens...it does have its share of problems like traffic,pollution etc like all other indian cities..but i can tell u,it has the best climate to live,no doubt on every national holiday, half of mumbai is in pune to spend their weekends..

Although Pune has its own share of problems, it is a really lovely city. It is extremely green and decently clean. Its best part is the climate. And the average age of population (most being students) warms you up simply by its sheer liveliness :)
Pune is witnessing a massive change in the development front, and it urgently needs that. It is growing like anything. The infrastructure is facing unbearable pressure, and needs fast and tremendous improvement (take the 28-hours-per-week scheduled power cut for one example). And yes, while it has its share of serious and lesser serious problems, I also feel that it is underrated by a lot of people. Pune is great in many dimensions. And yeah, Pune has something that is missing from a number of the dense Indian cities: it has SPRAWL till date (not an USA-kind sprawl maybe)...

You put in some recent under construction stuff, like the one fly-over near Hudupsar... or is it done ?

There are about 10-15 flyovers u/c and in various stages of construction in Pune, the last one completed was at Seven Loves chowk. but couldnt find any pic of it or the hadapsar flyover yet. The flyover posted is the one which goes to Hinjewadi, IT park in Pune.

This is the Mula- Mutha river that flows through the city. The waterfall shown is more like a tiny dam where water is allowed to flow in limited quantity. Its somewhat like a recreational zone and there is park next to it.
This section of the river is a part of one of the oldest engineering colleges in Asia, COEP which started in 1854 and is sometimes used by the students and professionals for various water sports for national competitions. Hence the water is stored to get enough depth for these sports.

There's also roads built on both sides of the the river bed within the city for people who dont want to use the main roads and can drive down to the river bed and travel across the city and then get back on the main roads.

Yes, i guess people go there more for the fun and excitement of it than for eating. Ive noticed a waiting time for about 1.5-2 hours at Pizza hut in Pune on weekends and its always jampacked.

Infact the Mcdonalds when opened in Pune few years ago on JM road had a record footfalls of 19,000 people on the 1st day it opened..the highest in india for any food chain's 1st day opening.

MG road is 1 of the 4 important roads in Pune besides, FC road, JM road and Bund Garden Road. Its not quite wide road and has now been turned into a walking plaza..like an open air mall.. so no more vehicles are allowed on that road. There are 2 buses that are taking people from the parking areas near to the road and dropping them at specific points on MG road every half hour. No other vehicles are allowed.

Its more of a shopping road with DJs blasted pulsating music, mehendi and tattoo stalls,Cartoon characters, bangle makers, fortune tellers on the road. The road wil have a carnival type look on 2-3 days of a week.


The walking Plaza starts from this Barista cafe and goes down about 2-3 km of the stretch.

Hmmm... 4 lakhs sft in 40 acres, so pretty much space for future expansion..

MG road scenes looks nice...There was earlier such a plan to make a small section of Trivandrum MG road also a "Pedastrian corner" as it was only two lane that time. Anyway it was shelved and now work is going on to make it a six lane road with good pedastrian facilities.

U must be talking of these buildings.. there are 20 such towers to be built in a circle at the Magarpatta city measuring almost 4 million sq.ft of space around a 25-acre garden. It is the the biggest private STPI development in India.

U must be talking of these buildings.. there are 20 such towers to be built in a circle at the Magarpatta city measuring almost 4 million sq.ft of space around a 25-acre garden. It is the the biggest private STPI development in India.

Yes there is a huge pendulum at the Charles Correa designed IUCAA-Inter-university center for astronomy and astrophysics at the Univ of Pune. Here's a small pic of it.

The UFO style structure is actually a revolving restaurant and a Discotheque..and im quite sure its completed by now.
It is actually the biggest or 1 of the biggest discotheque's in India with a capacity of 20,000 people and 40,000 watt's of music..

The club is more famous for the Snow house - and the ice skating ring. it has which is the first in Maharashtra..as well as for the Go-karting and the bowling alley besides other facilities..

The city is going to cross the 100-garden mark soon. This makes it a serious contender of the ‘city of gardens’ title.

“Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has put forward a plan to develop around 35 gardens in addition to the existing 68,” said Yashwant Khaire, garden superintendent, PMC.

“We plan to cover every corner of the city. The plan has been approved and we aim development of atleast 10 gardens every year. In other words, the plan is to achieve the target in next three to four years,” said Khaire.

“We also plan to develop the largest garden in Maharashtra. The proposed garden at ‘Pachgaon Parvati’ would be spread across 75 acre. We are in process of acquiring land for the project,” said Khaire.

“We are also developing the country’s first ‘Palm Garden’ on 12 acre at Yerawada is association with the Botanical Survey of India, Agharakar Institute (formerly known as Maharashtra Association of Cultivation Science) and Pune University’s Science and Technology Park. We will grow about 70 species of Palm tress at the proposed ‘ Palm Garden’. Apart from recreation this garden will also provide academic facility to botany students. A Palm nursery is also planned along with the commercial trade of palm oil, “ Khaire added.

Apart from this, the department has chalked out a plan to renovate and beautify Pashan Lake.

“We are also creating a joggers’ park at Mutha riverside; and acquired 2.25 acre land next to Ruby Hall Clinic. The gardening department is also planning to convert Kothrud Garbage Depot into a city garden,” said Khaire.

The P L Deshpande garden developed by PMC in association with Okayama State (Japan) is getting an overwhelming response. An average of 2,000 people visit the garden daily. This garden alone is generating revenue worth Rs 10,000 a day in the form of entry fees.

“Second- phase development for this garden will start soon. We will develop a special ‘ Mughal Garden’ in about 7 acre in association with the Jammu and Kashmir government.
