Toucano :master: , My friend :righton: ,
This is the point I'm trying to make to the nation,
Its the City of MIAMI Limits only, No other city in the U.S.A. has this many Tower construction cranes in side the City limits.
True Coral Gables and Kendall have alot of cranes, North Miami has tower construction cranes at the Biscayne Landings, 4 of them, Sunny Isles Beach has 8 tower construction cranes,
Its Only the City of MIAMI, with now more than 50 tower construction cranes in the City limits itself.
  :applause:

rider_of_rohan June 28th, 2006, 05:47 AM Chuck your on a posting terror :D, how do you know how many cranes the cities have?
spellbound June 28th, 2006, 12:04 PM This thread has got me wondering about what the Top 10 TALLEST buildings under construction in the U.S. are...does anyone here have that info?
I'm assuming the Comcast Center (975') here in Philadelphia is probably one of them, but don't know what the others are (I'm talking about projects actually being built right now...not just on paper).
Paul305 June 28th, 2006, 03:58 PM One less crane for Coral Gables...
Yesterday a tower crane fell from the New Burger King headquarters. No one was injured. Miami Herald (http://www.miami.com/mld/miamiherald/14920783.htm).
Coral Gables crane accident closes roads
BY IDY FERNANDEZ
imfernandez@MiamiHerald.com
Sevilla Avenue and LeJeune Road is closed this morning as crews clean up the site where a construction crane fell late Tuesday afternoon in downtown Coral Gables.
Parents whose children attend the Banyan Day School across the street from the construction site will have to drop off their children in the rear of the school, where teachers will escort the kids to their classrooms, Herald news partner WFOR-CBS4 reported.
The crane was at the construction site for the new Burger King headquarters on LeJeune Road between Palermo and Sevilla avenues, CBS4 said, no one was injured.
The wind and rain from a sudden downpour seemed to have caused the crane to crash, though inspectors from the city's building and zoning department will make a final determination of the cause, said Sgt. Mike Frevola, a Coral Gables Police spokesman.

That would be one, two thousand footers are going up in Chicago where the sky is the limit. There are two thousand footers going up in NYC also.

Thanks, Rider.
I knew Chicago had to be in there...man, that city is a skyscraper buff's dream with all the great architecture.
Kinda strange that the Comcast Center here didn't add a mere 25' more to break the 1000' barrier, but it's fun to see it going up. The concrete core is just now starting to poke it's way into the visible skyline.
I'd LOVE to see Miami join the club with a true supertall (especially with so many cities around the world putting them up these days), but sometimes you wonder if the FAA will ever allow it to actually happen.

(well, that's MY version anyway!)
Thanks for the info, my friend.
kevinkagy June 29th, 2006, 01:45 PM These are only towers in the USA because I know for sure, Europe, Asia and the United Arab Emirates are spewwing massive structures. Check out emporis.com, Asia is a 1000 times ahead of the race with skyscrapers. Dubai is soon to become the world's headquarters in everything, they're building something for everything and Hong Kong has a massive skyscraper on every block with a beautiful bay view. Hard to compete with booming economies and real estate booms.

Chuck I dont think that Freedom tower is under construction at this time. The other thousand footer in NYC according to Emporis is BOA at 1200 feet. Also Chicago has a second thousand footer Waterview Tower at 1047 feet and 89 stories. Mobile Alabama has the Battle House Tower at 745 feet. And Chicagos One Museum Park at 734 ft and 62 floors.

Dave  ,my friend :righton: , I did notice that :bowtie: , and found out the reason it didn't make it to the Book of Facts, 2006 World Almanac :cheer: is because its height is at around 395 feet, and below the limit of 400 feet and up to post in the book.
At 40 floors, it has a low ratio of 9 feet per floor, and a low floor lobby :) .
Also, Dave :hi: , keep up those GREAT Posts updates in all the treads that you do, Your Great with the INFO man,
Please keep that up, it informs us of many happenings and approvals !!! :applause: :cheers1:

Its looks taller than 400 feet to me. Look at it in this picture in relation to One Miami and the Tequesta Point buildings. Its looks about the same height as Two Tequesta (or maybe a little taller) and that is 410 feet tall. On the other hand Carbonell is closer to the camera than One Miami and Two Tequesta.
One Miami is 4927 feet from the Four Seasons, Two Tequesta is 4576 feet from the Four Seasons and Carbonell is 4113 feet from the camera.
Also maybe that height is measured from the front of the building (the first floor) which is elevated and is about 10 to 15 feet higher than the ground at the back (river side) of the building. If you have ever been to these buildings you have to drive up a ramp to get to "ground level" of the buildings.

mileageman October 20th, 2008, 11:04 PM Only one residential crane left in Downtown Miami, although there are some remaining cranes for office and hotel towers
Last Construction Crane Left Standing In Greater Downtown Miami
Posted by Condo Vultures Realty LLC
The construction crane used to build the new 51-story, 530-unit Mint condominium tower in Greater Downtown Miami has been disassembled and trucked off on flatbeds heading north on Interstate-95.
The removal of the Mint’s construction crane situated on the north bank of the Miami River means only one residential crane is still left standing in an area where at the peak 18 months ago some 40 cranes filled the sky. (Three office towers are under construction currently.)
The last crane related to residential construction left standing is at the 47-story, 346-unit Paramount Bay condominium site in the Biscayne Boulevard Corridor.Paramount Bay is the project where a piece of the crane fell to the ground, killing two workers in March 2008.
Earlier this month the construction crane building the new 67-story, 306-unit Marquis condominium tower on Biscayne Boulevard was removed.
Many industry watchers see the imminent removal of the last crane as the symbolic end of vertical residential condo construction era in Greater Downtown Miami for at least seven years.

Interesting point you bring up. I'm going a bit off topic here, but have you ever thought about how overpopulated earth will be at the current rate babies are born. You also have to factor the compounding effect (the increase in increasing rate). This is an issue which will probably play a part in politics in the next few decades. We are already debating on how to resolve global warming which in my opinion is man made. Global warming has increased with population increase. It's pretty simple, the more people on earth the more demand for products and energy which are made in factories/plants that release carbon emissions into the atmosphere. We may have to someday adopt (make law) a limit on how many children an adult can have. I believe China is already doing this.

This is also the reason I'm for gay marriages. We've got to take some pretty radical steps to slow this down rather than encouraging everybody to realize their heterosexual potential. There are just too many high-functioning people these days who just happen to be homosexual rather than heterosexual, so I think maybe nature is trying to tell us something.

Well, hopefully during that time you'll see the buildings that were constructed fill up with actual residents. That part is more exciting and means more for the city itself than the construction process, imo.
