wow...ok congrats!

have a good time.

HK is really a dynamic city....and for skyscraper enthusiasts you will have lots to see....so you could probably spend all day along the harbour and up on the Peak.

haha..bet you will be taking lotsa night pics...

of course there's other things to do besides stare at the skyline

I feel it's definitely better than those pics taken using Nikon D70 and Canon 350D. D50 is simply value-for-money.

Yes....they have the show every night at 8pm.....but I wasn't very stunned by the show....it's just basically doing a hifi graphic equaliser thingy on the skyscrapers.....maybe it'll be better during special occassion with fireworks or so......but I can understand why they are doing that...it does attract people to harbour and create excitment..

I prefer the skyline without the symphony of lights.....more classy.....

Enjoy most about HK?? Emm.....I guess it's the sense of vibrant vibe and dynamism(not that Singapore is lacking...just that it feel different).....the creativity of language (advert and stuff)...food........cheap and wide variety of DVD(slightly wider than Singapore cos there is less censorship in HK)..and cheaper shopping in HK for local brand like giordano and Esprit......

Actually you'll find most of the public are against this.

What they're doing is filling in the harbour from 2 IFC all the way to HKCEC. Aside from the filling in the harbour, another issue with the public is that the Government is using a large area of the land to house it's Government headquarters - almost like a 'jewel in the crown' thing, except rather selfish. The 'green and promenade' areas are meant to be sweeteners for the public.

That's a HUGE part of the harbour lost - at this rate Hong Kong won't HAVE a harbour anymore!

I just read in today's paper that the Government is going ahead with that project to the dismay of those against it

But I guess the urban greenery is good for the city :)

There are a few separate projects under discussion here.

The government headquarters is on the old Tamar military basin, which has been reclaimed for a number of years. The new government headquarters will sit on that piece of land. There are some political rumblings as to the cost of building a new centralized government complex here, which is not unusual in an elected legislature, but the council approved the plan recently. The issue isn't about reclamation but rather value for money - ie. is the plan too expensive?

The more controversial piece is the new reclamation now under way just off the coast. That will be the new promenade with a highway underneath it. The public is very concerned as to the extent of the reclamation and how much open space will come out of all that. Unfortunately, some political activists are using this to kill both projects, but then again, Hong Kong is not going to forge ahead and implement a few people's visions without adequate public consultation and debate. Ultimately what will come out of it will be closer to a public consensus of utopia than a few visionaries' forced implementation of their utopia.

yup the article also stated the exact kind of statement you just mentioned : HK wont have a harbour anymore..... that they are reclaiming too much of the beautiful harbour :( IFC itself is beautiful but you are correct, over doing things isnt too good :(
