i think i know what it is

all you guys know this empty barren wasteland plot next to the entrance to the creek golf & yacht club
it's directly opposite to deira city centre mall

al maktoum bridge is right next to it

i'm convinced it's there

Dennis, I think you are right. The renders do suggest that it will be located on the old site of the Dubai Oil Fields, along Dubai Creek, next to Al Maktoum Bridge.

http://i5.tinypic.com/14t4yn6.jpg

I noticed alot of soil testing taking place on this site over the past few weeks, so this is probably the resulting project.

Face81
June 18th, 2006, 08:48 AM
Fine, I will do a rough translation myself. Remember, this has been slighlty editted to make it more clear as I used a direct translation:

Revealed: Commercial, Tourist and Residential Project – Includes gardens, a theatre and water cascades.

Called the Al-Khor Gem, the project will cost in excess of 3 billion Dirhams

The engineer, Mazen, prides himself on his company “This is an international development for Dubai and will be built on the banks of Dubai Creek. We expect the project to be completed in four years”.

The project will be composed of up to 20 buildings ranging from heights of 20 to 23 storeys. The total built up area will be 6.7 million square feet on an overall land area of 1.3 million square feet.

Six engineering companies participated in an international design competition for the Al Khor Gem project and the entrants were given details of architectural requirements and the design is in keeping with Dubai’s future needs in terms of population growth.

The project will be environmentally sensitive and will feature water cascades along with vast green areas and a main water channel will run through the development. The project will feature a theatre at the centre of the development.

So now please rename the thread to: The Al Khor Gem :D

Its been posted, though I think I need some help. Dunno why the resoltion is lost once I upload it to Tiny Pic. Have a look and see if you can offer any suggestions.

And no, Bur Dubai itself has no proper skyline, but this side of the Creek does :D
Deira has always had a skyline, infact thats the inspiration behind my little project

DIRC to have $3.81bn projects

United Arab Emirates: Thursday, August 02 - 2007 at 08:43

The firm will have projects worth $3.81bn running by the end of 2007. The majority will be located in one of the emirates, without naming which one. DIRC, the real estate arm of Dubai Investments, currently has around $1.09bn of projects.

What an amazing video, King... I counted 20 buildings, two hotels (A 5* Luxus and some other 4*). I love the way it lays out the three main components: Wadi Walk, The Island and The Green.

Of course there has. Just look at all the on hold projects and their original delivery dates. DBD, Business Bay, offshore developments, lagoons, jumeirah gardens... the list of projects affected goes on and on and on...

Single crane on site. The development closest to Maktoum Bridge is under construction with a lot of activity for that specific building. No other activity on the entire site.

We need to get a master plan! :tongue2:

The area right above the "D" in the picture below is where the site activity is concentrated - infact, it's even cordoned off in the pic....

The local/Australian Al-Habtoor Leighton Group has won the estimated AED400m ($109m) substructure contract on the Jewel of the Creek development in Dubai.

The client, the local Dubai International Real Estate, selected Al-Habtoor Leighton after it received bids from contractors for the package in November 2010.

Dubai International Real Estate (DIRE) has signed a contract with Habtoor Leighton Group (HLG) for part of a AED3bn redevelopment of Dubai Creek, it was announced on Monday.

HLG has been awarded the AED480m ($130m) Package 7 of the Jewel of the Creek development in Port Saeed, Dubai, a statement said.

HLG's contract involves the construction and completion of the substructure works for four basement levels and ground floor slabs on the waterside site between Al Maktoum Bridge, Baniyas Road and the Floating Bridge, the statement added.

Package 7 forms part of the AED3 billion "Jewel of the Creek" development which will be a multi-use development including four and five star hotels, furnished serviced apartments, a convention centre, a ballroom, office buildings, residential buildings, a marina and landscaping.

HLG chairman Riad T Sadik welcomed the new project to HLG's project portfolio, saying: "We are confident that this landmark development will be a great success."

Laurie Voyer, HLG CEO and managing director, added: "The award of the project demonstrates that HLG has an established reputation and is a preferred contractor by major clients in the Dubai market."

Construction works on Package 7 have already begun and completion is expected in August 2013, he added.

HLG, a joint venture between the Al Habtoor Group and Australia’s Leighton Holdings, last week said it had won a $515m deal to build a luxury hotel in Dubai.

The deal is part of the Al Habtoor Group’s $1.3bn overhaul of the Metropolitan Hotel.

HLG will construct a hotel complex, comprising a five-level podium, one 26-storey tower and one 25-storey tower.

The objective of the Jewel of the Creek development is to transform the location into a vibrant urban centre and a prominent landmark in the heart of Dubai.

The vision is to create a project of strong identification, a complex as a unit unparalleled along the Creek with functions linked to each other, yet each part of the development with its own expression and values. The project and its onsite infrastructure are designed by the joint venture partnership of Kieferle & Partner and Kling Consult.

Dubai International Real Estate prepares Jewel of the Creek tenders

22 April 2012, 13:42 GMT | By Colin Foreman

The local Dubai International Real Estate is preparing to issue tender documents for the next phase of its Jewel of the Creek development in Dubai.

The contract will involve building the superstructure of the mixed-use development that will have 17 main buildings surrounding a marina. The buildings include:

A convention centre with ballroom and recreation centre
A 17-storey luxury hotel
A 17-storey four-star hotel and serviced apartment building
Eight 19-storey apartment buildings
Three 17-storey office towers
Four 19-storey serviced apartment buildings

The local/Australian Al-Habtoor Leighton Group won the estimated AED400m ($109m) substructure contract in July last year. That contract involves the construction of a four-level basement for the development, which is located on the banks of the creek in the Port Saeed area next to Al-Maktoum bridge.

The piling works were completed by the local APCC. Germany’s Kling Consult is the consultant for the architectural design, structural engineering, landscape design and quantity surveying
