View Full Version : Any Chili Peppers fans?
bluenoser June 18th, 2006, 05:06 AM I noticed a small plain poster on a bulletin board on Barrington Street advertising a petition to get the Red Hot Chili Peppers to play Halifax. Whether you like them or not, you have to admit that most "Canadian Tours" end in Montreal or Quebec city, and this tour is no exception. They are playing in Saskatoon but not here, which is becoming more and more common these days. Anyway if you'd like to see them play here, or think that it would set a good example for other stadium-type bands, the site is:

Wishblade June 18th, 2006, 05:23 AM I agree, we need many more acts coming here, especially big acts. I know the stones are still a work in progress and Im really hoping something comes from that soon because its getting a little close to september for having nothing announced or anything. I would go see the chili peppers if they played here for sure, it'd be a good show :)

Well hey perhaps the chilli peppers could play in Moncton at magnetic hill after all they are not as big as the rolling stones. LOLOLOL

Jaybird June 18th, 2006, 04:59 PM I wanted to see the Chili Peppers in Buffalo. I saw them twice, once in Toronto (that concert sucked), and in Detroit (that was a great concert).
Black Slacks June 20th, 2006, 12:32 AM Hmm yes I've always noticed that Saskatoon ends up getting all the cool concerts just cause it's right along the way across Canada. Just like the CFL*, concerts should be coast to coast to be truly Canadian!
I don't think big acts ever have a problem filling the Metro Centre... though why is it that Saskatoon's Credit Union Centre can hold 13,000 (?) for concerts but Halifax's Metro Centre can hold, what, about 10,000 for concerts? I suppose the MC would have been expanded by now if not for its location.
I guess, in all fairness bigger tours usually go through Regina or Saskatoon - one or the other (usually the latter) but each concert likely attracts people from both cities.
Anyway, in conclusion, I know we have lots of musical fan base to draw from and way more concerts should be showing up here, especially with the summer option of playing outdoor venues.
*Not intended to start a CFL discussion here, ha...
vid June 20th, 2006, 03:04 AM They even come to Thunder Bay! I really feel for you guys, always being left out. :(
Oh, and you don't have Winnipegs, Minneapolises and Chicagos down the street either.. that might help...
I still feel for yas.
Jonestowncultinpicto June 20th, 2006, 02:50 PM the problem is always distances from other concert markets that prevents a chilli peppers from coming to either halifax or moncton. The chilli peppers could play about fifty markets the size of halifax during the summer and have better highways,no international broader crossings and American money with lowest taxes and labour costs for their shows. There is no reason commerically for the RHCP to come to the maritimes. One summer they could do american and then the next summer they could do europe making a very good living with shorter stops along the way.
I think the logical way to have concerts in the area is to have them in summer at magnetic hill as you cut about 6 hours in and out of halifax with a facility that is geared to the shed/amphi theater market in the united states. The problem still with moncton is boston and quebec city are the only real stops on either side of moncton .

Wishblade June 20th, 2006, 10:00 PM I also believe though that we can get huge crowds regardless of our location. Reason? We never get big acts. So when one comes along (much like the stones) its hyped up to the point where anybody who's anybody goes to it. And thats why there was such an enormous crowd in Moncton, the largest in North America for that tour in fact.

Well you are right about the crowds but you see it costs more for them to do a show because of the travel distances. The other problem is the canadian dollar and our taxes. The reason for the largest sized crowd for that tour was that the stones played for the most part in 20,000 seat arenas for multiple nights. Bostons crowd would be larger with a four night run in the fleet center. If the stones had of opted for the new england patriots stadium then the largest show would have been that show. The stones played the Fleet Center and Fenway Park that tour. Moncton had the biggest crowd simply by having the biggest field on that tour. I dont think you would have a repeat of that this year simply because the rolling stones in moncton was an event that many people beleived would not be repeated in this region. a stones concert is not going to happen in halifax this year because if it was they would be selling the tickets now.The stones are playing europe and it looks like it will be extended.
I think if you do your summer shows in moncton then you have the best location for profitable shows with less expense for transportationby the concert acts. We are just very far from the rest of the concert circuit and that will never change. until the canadian dollar is on par with the US dollar or above and diesel prices come down to US levels the maritmes will always be handicapped.
Portland Maine doesnt even get the shows it once did. Old Orchard Beach was once a place that was on the summer touring schedules for many major acts but that went a long time ago.

Luis80 June 22nd, 2006, 05:40 PM yeah Hali could sure use some more big concerts. I think if there was more big concerts that people form all over the maritimes would go for sure.
