Ok, here is a small project I have been working on. Its a plot map of Downtown Deira and covers the areas which I consider to be part of Dubai's Old Downtown. There are alot of developments taking place here to fill up the gaps, so I thought it was time for a plot map.

Someone please make this a sticky.

Hope you enjoy it as much as I did making it! :D :D :D

Ok, this is a little strange. I produced this in Paint and the resolution is great, but once uploaded to tinypic, it becomes blurry. Any suggestions?

Deira is too congested and there is virtually no empty land left for large projects, though the Palm Deira is coming.... The largest of the 3 Palms, which is the size of Paris, apparently!

amateur.

you know exactly what I meant by that comment.... over the past few weeks you have done nothing but bash dubai for some mysterious reason and I understand that you have a different opinion, which is great, but on a dubai forum, all about dubai, comments like the ones you make are sometimes just silly and childish and more often than not, baseless.

Give it a rest.

^^ Er..sorry to disturb ur hurting..but hurful has only one "L" in it.

Oh one other thing..sorry again..i know you're hurting, i'll be real quick...Don't give it if you cant take it.

Come to think of it, im sick to death of all the Dubai bashing that goes on in this forum, let alone in the wider world. Why can't people leave Dubai alone? OK so it has some slavery issues haunting it from its past...and ok there are only 3 kinds of women here...hookers, used-to-be-hookers and not-yet-hookers-but-would-consider-it-if-the-price-was-increased.....but that doesn't give reason for people to attack it left, right and centre.

Let's ban Dubai bashing here. From now on..only good things about Dubai can be posted on the forum. No bad news, whatsoever. Let's just tell the world how good Dubai is....maybe even change the forum title..to..erm..i dunno...Gulf News?

Yes that's right not dirhams, dollars.
After the visit to Seoul of a high level delegation and the forming of a new government company called Deira Investments, the Korean construction company SUNGWON have been awarded the contract to build residential, commercial, retail outlets and tourist attractions in the area. Existing buildings will also be redeveloped.
Sungwon will start the huge project later this year and it is expected to take 5 years to complete.
The master plan is due to be released in "a matter of weeks". It will be a mega project on par with the biggest developments in Dubai.

I hope this doesn't involve demolishing half of deira. I know a lot of the buildings are old and well, not in the greatest condition but would much prefer if they did them up. Many cities that demolished a lot of their old buildings regret it now.

smussuw
June 16th, 2007, 11:09 AM
^^ I don't think that they will demolish any of those buildings especially that those are private ownerships. (Hope so)

I wish if they could beautify the area by making more walker friendly.

Anyway demolishing old buildings is Abu Dhabi's specialty and not Dubai.

I lived in Deira for a couple of days two years ago. This is a good place to feel the arabic atmosphere. And you are in the middle of Dubai. But the buildings are quite ugly and seem to be built planless

Deira is the heart of the city and been there for more then 2 centuries....there is not only Arabic but multicultural Atmosphere which u didnt observe......Deaira is the house of one of the biggest Gold market,Cloth market,Antique and spices market so there should be quite hustle and bustle....
