Expansion of Prophet’s Mosque to Make Room for 270,000 More

MADINAH, 18 June 2006 — A number of major welfare projects worth SR9 billion, including expansion of the Prophet’s Mosque to create space for 270,000 additional worshippers, three hospitals and a university campus, will be launched in Madinah by Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah during his current visit to the holy city, informed sources said.

The king arrived in Madinah yesterday from the central region of Qasim on the seventh leg of a national tour that has taken him to Jubail, Alkhobar, Qatif, Ahsa and Hail. Crown Prince Sultan, Interior Minister Prince Naif, Prince Khaled ibn Faisal, deputy commander of the National Guard for the Western Region, and other top officials, received the king at Madinah Airport.

The expansion of the eastern courtyard of the Prophet’s Mosque and the setting up of 182 large umbrellas to provide shade around the building will create additional prayer area for a total of 270,000 worshippers at a time, the sources said. The expansion, ordered by the king, will cost SR4.7 billion, Madinah Governor Prince Abdul Aziz ibn Majed said.

Abdullah will also launch the Taiba University campus project that includes the establishment of a 400-bed university hospital and five colleges for dentistry, pharmacology, applied sciences, computer engineering, and science. The king will open a 500-bed maternity and children’s hospital and the new headquarters of the Madinah Governorate and lay the foundation stone for the 200-bed National Guard Hospital, the sources said.

The maternity and children’s hospital, the largest such facility in Madinah, was built at a cost of SR447 million. Health Minister Dr. Hamad Al-Manie said his ministry planned to establish new hospitals and health centers across the country to extend better health care for citizens and residents.

Dr. Abdullah Al-Rabeea, director general of health affairs at the National Guard, said the new National Guard Hospital in Madinah would have specialty clinics for internal medicine, heart diseases, pediatrics, maternity, ophthalmology and dentistry.

Madinah Governor Abdul Aziz said the king’s visit to Madinah reflected the special place it has in the hearts of the Saudi leadership. He also commended the king for making necessary financial allocations for the expansion of the Prophet’s Mosque, the second holiest mosque in Islam, and for his efforts to enhance the facilities and welfare of both citizens and pilgrims.

In a related development, a number of Saudis including businessmen, have called for the expansion of the airport in Madinah, in line with the city’s position as the second largest gateway for pilgrims after Jeddah. “Prince Muhammad Regional Airport in Madinah deserves expansion and modernization to receive flights from all over the world,” said Abdullah Al-Raheeli, a businessman. “At present I have to travel to Jeddah in order to get an international flight,” he added.

King Abdullah yesterday visited the Prophet’s Mosque to offer prayers and pay respect to the Prophet (peace be upon him) and his caliphs. He later attended a reception held by the people of Madinah. More than 30,000 people took part in the ceremony that included an opera staged by about 2,000 artists.

The Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah bin AbdulAziz Alsaud launched the Knowledge Economic City (KEC) in Madinah, Saudi Arabia on Saturday.


The project is the first of its kind and the third economic city in Saudi Arabia to be initiated by the Saudi Arabian General Investment Authority (SAGIA) in an aggressive bid to repatriate capital and attract value-added foreign investments. The move is part of efforts hoped to develop the Kingdom's regions in a hi-tech manner while easing mounting pressure off the country's three major cities' infrastructures.

At the directives of King Abdullah, SAGIA liaised with a Consortium of Saudi investors lead by Savola Group to develop an economic city dedicated to knowledge-based industries (KBI). The Consortium-Savola Group Co., PMDC, Taibah Investment & Real Estate Development Co., and Quad International Real Estate Development Co.-along with the King Abdullah Foundation formed an investment vehicle to develop an economic city based on KBI. The new city, named 'Knowledge Economic City' will be developed on a 4.8 million m2 land while the built up area will near 9 million m2 attracting some 25 billion Saudi riyals ($6.7 billion) worth of investments. The project will add 20,000 new jobs to the region.

The city will comprise various zones designed to compliment each other; a technology and KBI zone; an advanced IT studies institute; an interactive museum on the life of Prophet Mohammad (PBUH); a center for Islamic civilization studies; a campus for medical research and life sciences; an integrated medical services zone; a retail zone; a business district; residential zones including high rises, houses, and fully-serviced apartments; shopping malls; and a mosque with a 10,000 worshipper capacity.

Transportation within KEC will be facilitated via a ring road above which rises a monorail connecting the city to neighboring Grand Mosque of Madinah within minutes. This monorail will be tethered to the planned train station thus tapping into the railway access to Makkah, Yanbou, the King Abdullah Economic City as well as the port city of Jeddah.

SAGIA played a pivotal role in the conceptualization of the project. 'The King's vision to develop an economic city based on KBI is a forward looking step and the development will boost the region's chances to attract investments hoped to overhaul services in Madinah,' commented Amr Dabbagh, governor of SAGIA.


'This vital project falls well within plans to upgrade the Kingdom's regions in a sustainable fashion taking into consideration each region's competitive advantages. Given Madinah's historic stance as the launch pad of Islamic culture by Prophet Mohammad (PBUH) more than 14 centuries ago, the KEC project is a renaissance of sorts as Madinah will be used to launch the knowledge-based industries,'



added Dabbagh.
Governor Amr Dabbagh pointed out that the three economic cities launched to date by SAGIA are in line with its strategy to promote investments into the country's sectors that propose the best competitive advantages, namely, energy, transportation, and KBI. The first economic city launched December 2005 in Rabegh (the King Abdullah Economic City) focused on promoting energy- and transportation-related industries, while the second economic city launched last week in Hayel (the Prince AbdulAziz bin Mousaed Economic City) is designed around transportation and related logistical services. This latest city in Madinah captures the essence of SAGIA's third focus, knowledge-based industries (KBI), concluded Dabbagh.

The Knowledge Economic City project is a culmination of efforts by a group of leading Saudi companies to develop an economic city to the east of Madinah that is planned to become an international KBI icon. The total built up area will reach 8.8 million m2 including 4,000 stores and 30,000 residential units that will house 200,000 inhabitants.

I don't understand why this "Knowledge Economic City" has to be built in Madinah. Apparently there will be institutions of education and research. Now if that is the case, aren't they ever going to want to have non-muslims in those institutions? I don't know this city's proximity to Madinah but non-muslims aren't allowed there. I guess if they thought this through, the project will be outside Madinah's city limits.

I think "luxurious life" isn't what we need in saudi arabia, we need more important things than "luxurious life", we need better education system, we need better communications system (although STC makes huge profits :mad: it's the worst communication company in the world). and since this thread considers "Al-Madina Al-Monawara" I think they should think about fixing its rusty streets before they think about "$7 Billion Knowledge City for Madina".

There are many road projects going on in all over the Kingdom and including Madina.

And I don't know what's wrong with STC. I've been with them for more than four years and I'm pretty satisfied. I could understand it if you had complained about Saudi Airlines or Airports or traffic police or public hospitals and schools.

There’s a lot to fix for sure but that does not mean that we should not built economic cities.

No doubt STC service is one of the worst ,Just go down to any of their branches or try to call 905 ,really I don’t know where in the earth they getting those employees .Streets in Saudi (with exption to RIYADH) are the worst in the Gulf .Never the less this has nothing to do with economic cities at all

For too long the STC and other government monopolies have ripped people off. There is no service to speak of and they didn't allow competitors until mobily came along. I don't want to start another argument with this...but the monopolies need to end and there has to be more free competition. Also, why can't anyone do anything abt ART ripping people off for world cup games. When is someone going to stand up and say "STOP RIPPING ME OFF!!" Sorry, some things tick me off..

Different people have different experience. Sometimes I call 905 to get directions of places in town even though their job is just a phone directory service. You might have had bad experience with them which caused your irritated reply :)

It was like SR 1000 to get world cup subscription plus all the ART channels for one year (SR 80 a month) . I think that is super cheap comparing to SR 250 a month for Showtime channels. Now who ever can not affort SR 80 a month, should go wash cars instead of watching football :)

About Communications in SA
There is no doubt that the communication system in Saudi Arabia is "a rip off in the middle of the day" lets say I want ADSL service I will need:
- ADSL service: 300 SR establishment for STC + 1200 SR per year for service subscription for STC=1500
- ADSL subscription: (512 Kbps is the highest speed - Give me a break) lets say I want 256 Kbps subscription for a year=3600 SR

so just to get freaking ADSL service I have to pay:
1500+3600= 5100 SR

So I say it will be easier if they just make their employes steal wallets from people down the streets.

It's nice though to hear some exagerated and super negative comments every once in a while. I was once talking to my boss and he was complaining about negative people and how they spread the negativity in the work environment. I told him that as long as there are more positive people than the negative then there should not be a problem. Actually, we do need the negative people in seeing the dark sides of our orgnization. أكد الأمير عبد العزيز بن ماجد أمير منطقة المدينة المنورة أثناء لقائه بوفد مجلس إدارة شركة مدينة السيرة للتطوير العقاري التي تتولى عن المطورين إدارة مشروع مدينة المعرفة الاقتصادية، تعهده بإزالة أية عقبة يمكن أن تؤثر على المشروع.
وبين إبراهيم محمد العيسى، رئيس مجلس إدارة شركة مدينة السيرة للتطوير العقاري عقب الاجتماع، أنه نتج عن اللقاء، الاتفاق على خطة عمل لبدء تطوير مشروع مدينة المعرفة الاقتصادية، مفيدا بأنه تمت مناقشة بعض التفاصيل المتعلقة بالمستجدات الحديثة ضمن التحضير لبدء المدينة العملاقة. وتطرق الاجتماع إلى محاور تطوير المشروع ومناقشة المراحل المقبلة في حياة المشروع والجدول الزمني المقترح، ودراسة بعض آليات التنفيذ حيث وجه الأمير عبد العزيز بن ماجد بضرورة تنفيذ المشروع طبقا لأعلى المعايير الآخذة في عين الاعتبار الجودة العالية، مشيرا إلى ضرورة توفير أفضل الخدمات لزوار مدينة الرسول عليه الصلاة والسلام.

وشدد أمير المدينة المنورة خلال اجتماعه بوفد مجلس إدارة شركة مدينة السيرة للتطوير العقاري بأهمية دمج برامج التدريب والتطوير للأيدي العاملة السعودية ضمن البرامج التعليمية لمدينة المعرفة الاقتصادية. من جهته، أكد فهد الرشيد، وكيل محافظ الهيئة العامة للاستثمار للمدن الاقتصادية التزام الهيئة بتذليل جميع العقبات أمام المستثمرين، مفيدا أن الهيئة على اتصال يومي بجميع مطوري المدن الاقتصادية للوقوف على أحدث التطورات ودمج الحلول ضمن الخطط الدورية التحديث للهيئة.

وكان خادم الحرمين الشريفين الملك عبد الله بن عبد العزيز قد دشن المشروع خلال زيارته لمنطقة المدينة المنورة في يونيو (حزيران) المنصرم لتكون ثالث مدينة اقتصادية في البلاد. والمعروف أن مدينة المعرفة الاقتصادية هي ثمرة توجيه من خادم الحرمين الشريفين لتنسيق الهيئة العامة للاستثمار مع تحالف من المطورين الوطنيين بقيادة مجموعة صافولا ومشاركة كل من شركة إدارة وإنماء المشاريع العقارية وشركة طيبة للاستثمار والتنمية العقارية والشركة الرباعية الدولية للتطوير العقاري، بالمشاركة مع مؤسسة الملك عبد الله بن عبد العزيز لوالديه للإسكان التنموي.

يذكر أن المشروع يهدف إلى إنشاء مدينة اقتصادية على أرض مؤسسة الملك عبد الله لوالديه والتي تقع شرق المدينة المنورة، تقوم على الصناعات المعرفية ولتكون معلما حضاريا لخدمة سكان وزوار المدينة المنورة، وصرحا وطنيا وعالميا للتنمية الاقتصادية المبنية على الصناعات المعرفية. وتبلغ المساحة الإجمالية للمشروع 4.8 مليون متر مربع وتصل المساحات المبنية فيها إلى 9 ملايين متر مربع، بينما سيصل إجمالي حجم الاستثمار فيها عند اكتمالها إلى 25 مليار ريال ويتوقع أن توفر عشرين ألف فرصة عمل جديدة.

وتتكون مدينة المعرفة الاقتصادية من عدة عناصر رئيسية تشمل مجمع طيبة للتقنية والاقتصاد المعرفي، ومعهدا للدراسات التقنية المتطورة، ومتحفا تفاعليا للسيرة النبوية، ومركزا دراسات الحضارة الإسلامية. كما تشمل هذه المدينة مجمعا للدراسات الطبية والعلوم الحيوية، والخدمات الصحية المتكاملة والتي تضم العيادات والمختبرات المساندة ومراكز تجارية ومركزا متكاملة للأعمال إلى جانب المناطق السكنية المشتملة على العمائر والفلل والشقق الفندقية بمختلف المستويات.

Microsoft Deal to Open Gates of IT World for Saudis: KEC Chief

JEDDAH, 26 February 2008 — Young Saudis may soon be knocking at the gates of the IT world as a result of a strategic partnership agreement signed yesterday between the Knowledge Economic City in Madinah (KEC) and Microsoft Saudi Arabia.

“Young Saudis will soon be knocking at the gates of the IT world as a result of this strategic partnership,” Tahir Bawazir, CEO of KEC, told reporters at a press conference following the signing of the agreement at the Jeddah Hilton Hotel.

The highlights of the partnership include establishing a Microsoft academy to train Saudis in the use of information technology, he said. The academy will be complimented with the establishment of a Microsoft Library, trial software and other learning material.

He added that the agreement would also drive the formation of incubators to provide young entrepreneurs with an encouraging environment to establish healthy and promising businesses and thrive within a knowledge economy.

The objective of incubators is to help young Saudis gain employment and contribute to the economic and technological growth of the Kingdom, he said, adding that young Saudis who have an entrepreneurial spirit, who are excited by research and development, who have a passion for using technology as a business base, will have the sky as their limit.

“With the help of Microsoft, KEC will become a new hub where future innovators will be able to develop their ideas, grow and become tomorrow’s scientists and technology leaders of the Islamic world,” Bawazir said.

Khalid Al-Dhaher, general manager of Microsoft, Saudi Arabia, said that this strategic partnership with KEC would help propel local scientific and technological innovation as new ideas create new businesses and new jobs, improve productivity and enhance human welfare.

“Building local capacity for innovation and entrepreneurship is essential for the people of Saudi Arabia to participate in the success of a knowledge economy,” Al-Dhaher said.

The Microsoft Academy will comprise experts made available through Microsoft’s access to experts and a network of partners that they would be able to bring to operate the academy, he said.

KEC Madinah is one of four economic cities being developed in Saudi Arabia to boost regional development and provide employment for the country’s growing population by focusing on intellectual property, knowledge-based industries, medicine, hospitality, tourism and multi-media.

The Knowledge Economic City is designed as a project that will position Saudi Arabia and young Saudi Arabian entrepreneurs as internationally respected leaders in knowledge-based industries. It also aims to attract and develop talent from around the world, providing them with opportunities on a global scale while providing investors and entrepreneurs with infrastructure, opportunity, a unique pool of talent and the potential for a healthy return on investment.

More than 20,000 jobs and accommodation for about 150,000 people will be created by the project, which will have an aggregated investment of more than SR30 billion and take up to 12 years to complete. KEC will include the Taiba Technological and Economic Information Center, an interactive museum on the Prophet’s (peace be upon him) life as well as a center for medical studies, biosciences and integrated medical services.

وقعت أمس مدينة المعرفة الاقتصادية ومدارس الأندلس الخاصة اتفاقية لبناء مدرستين في مدينة المعرفة الاقتصادية في المدينة المنورة. وقام بتوقيع العقد رئيس مجلس إدارة شركة مدينة المعرفة الاقتصادية ابراهيم بن محمد عيسى، ومالك مدارس الأندلس عبدالغني عبدالله الخريجي، وتهدف خطة بناء المدرستين الذكيتين إلى إنشاء مدرسة للبنين والأخرى للبنات. وقال رئيس مجلس إدارة مدينة المعرفة بالدعم الكبير الذي تجده مدينة المعرفة من صاحب السمو الأمير فيصل بن عبدالله وزير التربية والتعليم الذي أكد ان التعليم في المملكة يمر في مرحلة مهمة في تاريخها نتيجة للإصلاحات التي أدخلها خادم الحرمين الشريفين الملك عبدالله، وذلك لتحسين مستوى البلاد في التعليم على قدم المساواة مع أفضل دول العالم.
وقال العيسى: إن بناء مدارس ذكية في مدينة المعرفة الاقتصادية هي خطوة مهمة نحو تحقيق الإصلاح التعليمي التي يتوخاها خادم الحرمين الشريفين في هذا الصرح الشامخ، مشيراً إلى أن موقع مدينة المعرفة الاقتصادية في منطقة قرب الحرم النبوي الشريف في المدينة المنورة يهيء موطناً جديداً للصناعات القائمة على المعرفة.

وتم بموجب هذا التوقيع استكمال مساهمة رأس المال من المؤسسين حيث شملت المساهمة نقل ملكية أرض المشروع البالغ مساحتها 5 ملايين متر مربع من مؤسسة الملك عبد الله بن عبد العزيز لوالديه للإسكان التنموي لصالح شركة مدينة المعرفة الاقتصادية بما تمثل حصة المؤسسة في شركة المساهمة.

وستقوم الشركة باستكمال متطلبات هيئة سوق المال من الوثائق والمعلومات والتي تم الفراغ من غالبيتها وتأتي هذه الخطوة لإنهاء الخطوات اللازمة نحو طرح أسهم الشركة للاكتتاب العام والمتوقع إنجازه خلال النصف الثاني من العام الحالي.

حضر توقيع الاتفاقية رئيس مجلس إدارة شركة مدينة المعرفة الاقتصادية إبراهيم بن محمد العيسى وعدد من أعضاء مجلس الإدارة .

وبين العيسى أن التوقيع لسمو الأمير خالد بن عبدالله بن عبدالعزيز بمثابة المباركة النهائية لاستكمال المساهمة في رأس المال بعدما أنهت مؤسسة الملك عبدالله لوالديه جميع الاتفاقيات الرئيسية الخاصة بمدينة المعرفة إلى جانب إتمام جميع الإجراءات القانونية لوضع الشركة المطورة للمدينة وطرحها للاكتتاب العام وذلك بعد أن تم أخذ موافقة المجلس الاقتصادي الأعلى.

وكشف أن الخطوات العملية بدأت بتنفيذ عقد تسوية وتنظيم مستويات الأرض وذلك من خلال إحدى الشركات الوطنية المختصة في هذا المجال العام الماضي موضحا أن مدينة المعرفة الاقتصادية في المدينة المنورة تعد أول مدينة من نوعها قائمة على الصناعات المعرفية في المملكة العربية السعودية ورابع مدينة اقتصادية ضمن خطة الهيئة العامة للاستثمار وتوطين الرساميل واجتذاب الاستثمارات إلى مناطق المملكة المختلفة.

وأكد أن المدينة ستصبح بإذن الله مشروعاً قائماً على أرض الواقع في خلال السنوات القادمة حيث تتميز بموقعها الخاص في جذب الزوار والحجاج والمعتمرين من شتى بقاع الأرض.

Saudi property developer Knowledge Economic City Company (KEC) will launch an initial public offering in the third quarter to raise SR1.02 billion ($271.4 million), a report said.

The commerce and industry ministry said on Saturday the firm would sell shares to the public within 30 days. Al-Eqtisadiah newspaper quoted KEC's chief executive Taher Bawazir as saying the IPO would take place in the third quarter.

The firm will offer 30 per cent of its 339.3 million shares at 10 riyals each, he added.

KEC is the lead developer of a knowledge-based city near the holy city of Madinah that aims to attract investments worth up to SR30 billion and housing about 150,000 people, according to the developer's website.

Knowledge Economic City is among four mega property projects planned by the kingdom to diversify its oil-based economy and create jobs for a rapidly growing native population.

The project hopes to spur the creation of knowledge-based industries and would include hotels and shopping centres for the hundreds of thousands of pilgrims who visit Madinah each year.-Reuters

KEC set to launch IPO in May

JEDDAH: The SR30 billion Knowledge Economic City (KEC) will launch its initial public offering (IPO) in May. The Capital Market Authority (CMA) announced on Sunday that KEC's initial public offering of 102,000,000 shares representing 30.06 percent of the company's total outstanding shares would be offered from May 24 to May 30.

Knowledge Economic City was launched by Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah in June 2006 and is the fourth and most important of six economic cities announced by the Saudi Arabian General Investment Authority (SAGIA).

According to a statement on the Tadawul website, the company's prospectus will be posted to the public well before the subscription period. Saudi Basic Industries Corp. (SABIC) shares were unchanged at SR88.75.

The value of Saudi traded shares was SR2.38 billion on Sunday.

وقال الرئيس التنفيذي للمدينة المهندس طاهر باوزير إن المدينة تقوم حاليا بإعداد وثائق المناقصة لتنفيذ مراحل المشروع متوقعا أن يصل حجم الاستثمارات المتوقعة في مدينة المعرفة إلى 33 مليار ريال على مدى ال 15 سنة المقبلة خاصة وأن مشاريع التطوير تركز على بناء مجتمع معرفي وتنمية اقتصادات الصناعات المعرفية والموارد البشرية.

واوضح باوزير أن المدينة المنورة شهدت تطورا عمرانيا كبيرا وتوسعة كبيرة للمسجد النبوي ومن المؤكد أن طيبة الطيبة ستدخل مرحلة جديدة في خطة تنميتها حال تنفيذ مدينة المعرفة الاقتصادية لتضيف تطورا جديدا في منظومة المدن المعرفية والاقتصادية .

واضاف أن مشروع مدينة المعرفة الاقتصادية يعد واحدا من المشروعات الحضارية المتقدمة حيث سينقل المجتمع السعودي إلى مجتمع معرفي متطور خاصة وأنها تجاور جامعة الملك عبدالله لافتا النظر الى أن للمدينة المنورة مكانة خاصة في قلوب المسلمين والكثيرون يرغبون في نقل المعلومات والخبرات التي لديهم لهذه المدينة والوجود فيها ومن هنا كانت اهمية تهيئة المناخ العملي المناسب لجذب العلماء من جميع النواحي والعمل على وجود البيئة المناسبة التي تشجع على الإنتاجية والعطاء من خلال مدينة المعرفة الاقتصادية.

Non-Muslims to be allowed to live in part of Medina

JEDDAH // Non-Muslims can never get the feel of what is it like to live in Mecca or Medina, Islam’s holy cities, as only Muslims are allowed to enter them. But this is about to change when the new "smart city" being built in Medina is completed.

Knowledge Economic City (KEC), Saudi Arabia’s first “smart city” – its buildings are all connected via voice, data and video links – will open its doors to non-Muslims as the city is planned to be a window on Islam to the world, one of the project owners said.

Sami Baroum, the managing director of Savola group, the largest private owner in the project, said that one-third of the new city, which will be developed on an area of 4.8 million square metres, will be outside of the forbidden area known as the Haram. It is expected to open in five years.

“For the first time, non-Muslims will be able to experience living within a Muslim holy city,” Mr Baroum said. “They will not live inside the Haram area, but they will be very close to it as they can see the lights of the Prophet Mohammed’s Mosque.”

The city, known as KEC, will be developed fully over 15 years at a cost of 30 billion riyals (Dh29bn) to serve both the tourist and commercial needs of Medina.

The Saudi King Abdullah, who donated the project’s land, worth one billion riyals, owns the majority stake in KEC through his King Abdullah Foundation for His Parents for Charitable Housing. All the revenues generated through property sales in KEC will go to the foundation to provide housing for poor Saudis.

According to design plans, KEC will accommodate up to 150,000 people in its residential areas, which will be supported by planned commercial complexes, hospitality facilities, a theme park and an Islamic museum.

“All surrounding countries are interested in building Islamic museums with large investments. Medina should be the city where non-Muslims come to understand the history of Islam instead,” Mr Baroum said.

The mosque areas in Mecca and Medina are sanctuaries for Muslims, according to Islamic law. The forbidden area of the Haram in both cities is well defined, but with expansion over the years many parts of the two cities are now outside the forbidden zones.

In Medina, the residential area surrounding the holy mosque is limited and has reached its accommodation capacity.

Mr Baroum said KEC allows Medina to grow outside of the central area close to the mosque and towards a new international airport that is under construction. He said he wants the airport to become a hub for Muslim travellers, particularly during Haj.

“Muslim flocks will come to Medina from all around the world once the airport is completed, and we want to make sure that non-Muslims as well can come to Medina and have a place to stay,” he said.

Saudi Arabia is investing heavily to develop a religious tourism sector as part of its efforts to move its economy away from oil, and for the first time, the kingdom hopes to attract non-Muslim visitors.

Mr Baroum said the KEC will also have a train station for a 450km high-speed railway linking the two holy cities to Jeddah.

“The new train station will be built in the one-third area located out of the Haram area, and non-Muslims can come to Medina by land to enjoy Islamic tourism attractions we will build there,” he said.

The KEC developers also plan for it to cater for the needs of the local population as well. Medina’s population stands at one million and the developers expect it to double in 20 years.

“Out of the additional one million people, we only want to attract 75,000 or 7.5 per cent to live in the KEC. The other half of KEC’s inhabitants should come from outside of Medina,” Mr Baroum said. He hopes to attract retirees as well as highly skilled workers.

As for its business and knowledge core, Mr Baroum said, the city is expected to be home to biomedical and information technology-related industries.

Developers hope the project will position Saudi Arabia and young Muslim entrepreneurs as internationally respected leaders in knowledge-based industries. They estimate that employers based there will create more than 20,000 jobs.

Employees of those industries would be able to live nearby.

“We want to make a reverse brain drain to attract back all the Muslim minds from the West to develop an Islamic knowledge-related economy in one of Islam’s holy cities,” Mr Baroum said.

“Attracting the right people ... is the difficult part,” he said. “Providing them with the right infrastructure to do it is the easy part.

“We already hired the world’s largest network solution company, Cisco Systems, to do the job.”

According to a press statement after the signing of a contract in 2008, Cisco said it would provide the network architecture for the city.

“We have non-Muslims eager to understand Islam, and we have 1.4 billion Muslims who need to visit Medina. I can’t think of a target market better than this,” Mr Baroum said.

When it was launched by King Abdullah and announced by the Saudi Arabian General Investment Authority in 2006, KEC, to the east of Medina, was the fourth of six economic cities designed to diversify the country away from oil and to provide jobs to a rapidly expanding population.

According to the investment authority, KEC will also have an Islamic civilisation studies centre designed to be a hub of intellectual activity, focused on collecting, developing and transmitting the knowledge, values and artwork of Islamic civilisation, as well as finding Islamic solutions to contemporary problems such as designing Islamic banking products.

وأوضح أنه من أبرز المشاريع المزمع تنفيذها في العام المقبل 2011 هي البدء في تنفيذ محطة القطار، وتأسيس كلية خاصة في مجمع الصناعات المعرفية، والإعداد التنفيذي للمدارس الدولية بنين وبنات، كذلك بدء تنفيذ مجمع الأعمال وإنشاء المرحلة الأولى من السوق التجارية، ومركز معالجة وحفظ المعلومات، والبدء في إنشاء أول فندق يخدم زوار مدينة المعرفة والمدينة المنورة، مشيرا إلى أن إجمالي قيمة العقود التي أبرمتها المدينة وينتظر ترسيتها في 2010 العام الحالي تبلغ 1.18 مليار ريال.

وأضاف أن ظروف (المكان والمكانة) وفرت لمدينة المعرفة مناخاً مواتياً للنجاح وبنسبة كبيرة من التفاؤل، فهي تقع ضمن النطاق العمراني للمدينة وبالتالي فإنها تستفيد من البنية التحتية المتوفرة بالمدينة المنورة، وتساندها في القدرة الاستيعابية عملية التهيئة للبنية التحتية الأساسية من الماء والكهرباء والصرف الصحي في مدينة المعرفة، كذلك توفر الطلب المحلي على جميع منتجات المشروع من وحدات سكنية أو تجارية أو مكتبية وخدمات تعليمية وصحية وسياحية، أخذا في الاعتبار نسبة النمو العالية في عدد سكان المدينة البالغ 1.1 مليون نسمة، والذي يتوقع أن يتضاعف خلال عشرين عاماً، ومن جانب آخر فإن المدينة لها جاذبية عالية لشريحة كبيرة من العالم الإسلامي الراغبين في زيارة المدينة المنورة والعمل والسكن فيها مع وجود شبكة مواصلات متميزة ومطار دولي، وما أشرت إليه في الكثافة السكانية والزوار الذين يبلغ عددهم حاليا حوالي 9 ملايين زائر، مع تقديرات أولية في أن يصل إلى 34 مليون زائر بحلول عام 2024م.

مدينة المعرفة توقع عقد إنشاء خطوط نقل كهربائية

أعلنت مدينة المعرفة الاقتصادية أمس عن توقيع عقد مع المؤسسة الوطنية للقوى الكهربائية المحدودة لإنشاء خطوط نقل هوائية جهد 110 كيلو فولت تعمل على تغذية محطة التحويل الكهربائية الفرعية الأولى بمدينة المعرفة الاقتصادية من المحطة الرئيسية التابعة للشركة السعودية للكهرباء. وينص عقد الاتفاقية على بناء خط طوله 6.5 كلم على أن تكون مدة العقد 21 شهراً. ووقع العقد عن مدينة المعرفة الرئيس التنفيذي المهندس طاهر محمد باوزير وعن المؤسسة مدير أول المشروع بالمؤسسة الوطنية للقوى الكهربائية مسعود حميد.
وأكد باوزير أهمية الاتفاقية لإمداد محطة الكهرباء الرئيسية التي يجري تنفيذها في مدينة المعرفة الاقتصادية بطاقة كهربائية متدرجة تصل إلى 134 ميجا فولت أمبير في المرحلة الأولى.

SR176m contract for Madinah villa project

Knowledge Economic City (KEC) announced Wednesday that its affiliate company Al-Marifa Al-Akaria LLC, which is 50/50 percent owned by KEC and Saudi Real Estate Co. (Al-Akaria), awarded Tuesday a construction contract for 206 villas worth SR176 million to Al-Dar Al-Arabia Company.

The project, which will start immediately, represents the first phase of the residential gated community located in the northwestern area of Knowledge Economic City in Madinah, and is set for delivery in phases during 2012.

Ali bin Othman Al Zaid, chairman of both Al-Akaria and Al-Marifa Al-Akaria LLC, said the project fell under the strategic partnership between Al-Akaria and KEC, which was announced in January this year to develop and sell real estate projects in Madinah starting with this gated villa community — the first gated residential community in Madinah within the boundaries of Al-Haram zone.

The gated community is the first project in Madinah by the Tadawul-listed Saudi Real Estate Company (Al-Akaria), 64.5 percent of which is owned by the Saudi Public Investment Fund.

Sami Mohsen Baroum, chairman of KEC, said the project was designed to reflect Madinah’s architectural style, distinguished by quality infrastructure, attractive landscape, cafes, retail shops, vibrant community facilities, and smart connectivity.

It also features, among others, green areas, playgrounds and parks for children, walking tracks, gyms and swimming pools for men and women.

The community is planned on a total land area of 586,000 square meters and will be developed in four phases for a total of 900 villas with investments exceeding SR1 billion.

The entire project completion is targeted in 2014.

This is concurrent with the significant progress achieved on the KEC infrastructure projects that include linking electricity, water and sewage networks under various contracts valued at more than SR250 million, in addition a SR305 million contract was awarded to Al Rajhi Construction Company, part of Al Rajhi Holding Group, to develop KEC’s Northern Area infrastructure and site works have commenced a few weeks ago.

The project is synchronous with other projects within KEC’s first phase being undertaken in the next four years, including the infrastructure requirements, residential and commercial units, and social amenities.

It also features a cultural zone, which will be a destination to Madinah’s visitor and inhabitants, and educational facilities comprising model schools for boys and girls, and an international university, and an integrated compound to accommodate visitors.

Nasser Hassan Naseef was appointed CEO of Al-Marifa Al-Akaria.

The company also announced an agreement with Midrar Company to supervise the implementation of the 1st phase of villas.

KEC is among the economic cities launched to enhance economic knowledge through building a master-planned city featuring integrated infrastructure that benefits from the unique characteristics of Madinah to attract knowledge and economic investments. It is also an addition to the real estate market in Madinah as it includes residential, commercial and hospitality sectors for Madinah’s visitors due to its proximity to the Holy Mosque, Al Haramain High Speed Train Station, and Prince Mohammed bin Abdul Aziz International Airport.

وقعت شركة المعرفة العقارية المحدودة (المملوكة مناصفة بين الشركة العقارية السعودية وشركة مدينة المعرفة الاقتصادية) وشركة الدار العربية بعد ظهر اليوم في مقر الشركة بجدة اتفاقية لبناء 206 فلل سكنية كمرحلة أولى ضمن مشروع الحي السكني المغلق في مدينة المعرفة الاقتصادية بالمدينة المنورة بقيمة 176 مليون ريال، وستبدأ شركة الدار العربية فوراً في أعمال التجهيز على أرض المشروع لمباشرة البناء على أن يتم تسليم الفلل خلال العام المقبل 2012م.

وقال المهندس علي بن عثمان الزيد رئيس مجلس المديرين لشركة المعرفة العقارية المحدودة إن شركة المعرفة العقارية المحدودة التي تم إشهارها في يناير 2011م هي نتاج للشراكة الإستراتيجية بين الشركة العقارية السعودية ومدينة المعرفة الاقتصادية بغرض تطوير وبيع مشاريع عقارية في المدينة ابتداءً بمشروع الحي السكني المغلق.كما تعد هذه الشراكة تفعيلاً لأحد محاور إستراتيجية التطوير التي أعلنت عنها مدينة المعرفة بداية هذا العام والمتمثلة في تطوير المشاريع العقارية من خلال الشراكات الإستراتيجية والتحالفات مع شركات لها خبرة في المجالات المختلفة.

وأضاف أن الحي السكني المغلق يعد أول مشروع للشركة العقارية السعودية في المدينة المنورة، وتعد"العقارية" إحدى الشركات الرائدة في قطاع التطوير العقاري في المملكة لأكثر من 30 عاماً وتملك خبرة واسعة في مجال تطوير المجمعات السكنية والتجارية على مستوى المملكة، وهي شركة مساهمة عامة ويمتلك صندوق الاستثمارات العامة حصة تقدر بـ 64.5% من أسهمها المدرجة في سوق الأسهم السعودية.

من جهته أوضح رئيس مجلس إدارة مدينة المعرفة الاقتصادية الدكتور سامي محسن باروم بأن هذا المشروع سيكون أول حي سكني مغلق في المدينة المنورة يقع داخل حدود الحرم تم تصميمه وفقاً للطراز العمراني للمدينة المنورة، ويتميز ببنية تحتية ذكية وأنظمة أمنية وصيانة متكاملة و خدمات نقل مترددة إلى الحرم النبوي الشريف بالإضافة إلى مناطق خضراء، وملاعب وحدائق للأطفال وأماكن مخصصة للاستمتاع برياضة المشي وصالات رياضية ومسابح للرجال والنساء وصالة للمناسبات بالإضافة إلى محلات تجارية ومقاهٍ.

وبين باروم ان المساحة الإجمالية للحي تبلغ 586,000 متر مربع يتم تطويرها على أربعة مراحل لتتضمن 900 فيلا سكنية بقيمة استثمارات تزيد عن بليون ريال سعودي عند انتهاء جميع مراحل التطوير في عام 2014م.

ولفت إلى تطوير الحي السكني المغلق يتزامن مع التقدم الملموس في مشاريع البنية التحتية والتي تتضمن الربط مع شبكة الكهرباء والمياه والصرف الصحي من خلال عقود أرسيت بقيمة إجمالية تتجاوز 250 مليون ريال بالإضافة إلى ترسية عقد تنفيذ البنية التحتية للمنطقة الشمالية على شركة الراجحي لأعمال البنية التحتية (إحدى شركات مجموعة الراجحي القابضة) بقيمة 305 ملايين ريال خلال الأسابيع الماضية، وسيتم تنفيذ المشروع على أربع مراحل حيث سيتم الانتهاء من المراحل الثلاث الأولى التي تشمل منطقة الفلل السكنية والتي تشكل أربعين في المائة (40%) من إجمالي مساحة المنطقة الشمالية للمشروع في منتصف العام 2012م.

Knowledge Economic City (KEC) has announced its interim financial results for the period ended June 30, 2011.

The company said its net loss for the second quarter of this year amounted to SR9.3 million, compared to a gain of SR20.2 million for the first quarter of 2011.

The net loss is due to the absence of sales in the second quarter, according to a statement.

Knowledge Economic City includes residential, commercial and hospitality sectors of Madinah due to its proximity to the Holy Mosque, Al Haramain High Speed Train Station, and Prince Mohammed bin Abdul Aziz International Airport.

وفي جولة لـ(المدينة) أمس تعمل الشركة المنفذة لمشروع الحي السكني المغلق بمدينة المعرفة على قدم وساق للإنتهاء من المشروع الذي ينفذ على مساحة أجمالية تبلغ 586,000 متر مربع يتم تطويرها على أربع مراحل لتتضمن 900 فيلا سكنية بقيمة استثمارات تزيد عن بليون ريال سعودي عند انتهاء جميع مراحل التطوير في عام 2014م وفقاً لرئيس مجلس إدارة مدينة المعرفة الاقتصادية الدكتور سامي محسن باروم .
ويقع الحي السكني المغلق على طريق الملك عبدالعزيز في الجزء الشمالي الشرقي من مدينة المعرفة الاقتصادية والذي يتم العمل حاليا على تنفيذ البنية التحتية له بالتزامن الانشاءات حيث سيتم تنفيذ ببنية تحتية ذكية وأنظمة أمنية وصيانة متكاملة وخدمات نقل مترددة إلى الحرم النبوي الشريف بالإضافة إلى مناطق خضراء، وملاعب وحدائق للأطفال وأماكن مخصصة للاستمتاع برياضة المشي وصالات رياضية ومسابح للرجال والنساء وصالة للمناسبات، بالإضافة إلى محلات تجارية ومقاه وذلك ضمن المرحلة الأولى لمدينة المعرفة والتي ستتضمن إضافة إلى الحي السكني المغلق منطقة حضارية وتراثية ستكون مقصداً لزوار المدينة المنورة وقاطنيها ومنشآت تعليمية أخرى مثل المدارس النموذجية للبنين والبنات وجامعة أهلية عالمية المستوى، بالإضافة إلى مجمع متكامل لإسكان الزوار.
وستتضمن انشاءات المدينة إنشــاء أول برجـين متعـددي الاستخـدامات وعالية الارتفـاع ستصل الى عشرين دوراً على واجهة طريق الملك عبدالعزيز،
وسيحتـوي البرجان على فنــدق وشقـق مفروشـة ومكاتب وقاعة احتفالات متعددة الاستخدامات.
وتحتوي قاعدة المبنى على محلات تجارية ومقاهٍ وفي مجمع الزوار المزمع انشاؤه سيضم مجمـعا فندقـيا متكـامـلا لإيـواء الـــزوار على طـريـــق المـلك عبدالعزيز يوفــر بديلاً اقتصادياً بجــودة عاليـــة للمســاكـن المستخدمـة حاليــاً خارج المنطقة المركزية وعلى مقربـة من مجموعـة خـدمـات متكاملــة كمركـــز التســوق، مراكز الخدمات الصحية، قاعات الاجتماعات والمطابخ المركزية وهو مؤهل لاستقبال عدد كبير من النزلاء في آن واحد .
وستتوافر بمدينة المعرفة خدمات نقل مترددة إلى الحرم النبوي وفي منطقة العمائر السكنية سيتم إنشاء مجموعـة من المجمعات شبـه المغلقــة توفــر لقاطنيهــا الراحة والسكينة وستضم شققا سكنية من أحجام مختلفة وتحتوي تلك المجمعات على مناطق خضراء، وملاعب وحدائق للأطفال وممرات للمشاة وخدمات ترفيهية وسيتم تطويــرها عن طريـق مطورين من ذوي الخبرة في تطوير المجمعات السكنية المماثلة.
كما سيتم ضمن المرحلة الأولى للانشاءات تنفيذ المركز الحضاري والمتاحف وتقع منطقة المتاحف في قلب المرحلة الأولى من مدينة المعرفة الاقتصادية مما يسهل ترابطها والوصول إليها من المناطق السكنية والتجارية ومجمع الزوار بالإضافة إلى سهولة الوصول إليها من طريق الملك عبدالعزيز (من وإلى الحرم).
وستحتوي هذه المنطقة على متحف دار القلم وهو مخصص لعلوم وفنون القرآن الكريم والخط العربي ومتحف دار المدينة وهو مخصص للتاريخ والتراث العمراني للمدينة المنورة مع التركيز على عهد الرسول عليه الصلاة والسلام ومتحف دار العلوم التفاعلي وهو مخصص للتعليم بالترفيه من خلال معروضات علمية تفاعلية موجهة بشكل خاص للأطفال تقع منطقة المتاحف في قلب المرحلة الأولى من مدينة المعرفة الاقتصادية، مما يسهل ترابطها والوصول إليها من المناطق السكنية والتجارية .

STC, KEC sign infrastructure deal

STC Group has signed an agreement of cooperation with the Knowledge Economic City (KEC) with the support of Madinah Gov. Prince Abdul Aziz bin Majed.

According to the agreement, the STC will execute integrated network linkage, including the establishment of infrastructure of the city's communications and developing it by introducing the best communications and information technology services.

Saud Al-Daweesh, CEO of STC Group, signed the agreement on behalf of the company while Sami Baroom, chairman of the board of directors, signed for the KEC.

Prince Abdul Aziz previewed modern capacities of the company where he saw the 4G services that provide up to 100 megabytes of Internet speed, and speeds provided by fiber optics network and the interactive TV (inVision).

“This agreement is a realization for the common objectives between the STC and KEC to incorporate the entire capabilities of the STC and the high quality services and technologies in the service of the city,” said Al-Daweesh. “The agreement derives its importance from the fact that this city is one of the most advanced cultural and scientific projects under the direction of Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah,” he added.

The network linkage for the infrastructure of the Knowledge City includes all smart solutions and innovations related to telephone, the Internet and mobile services exclusively introduced by the STC.

Saudi Savola sells $168m property firm stake to KEC

As part of the deal, Knowledge Economic City will get two parcels of land in Medina

Saudi Arabia's Savola Group will sell its 80-percent stake in a property firm to Knowledge Economic City (KEC) as it focuses on its core food, retail and plastics business, it said on Tuesday.

The sale of the stake in Al-Mujamaat United Company for Real Estate is valued at SR631.1m ($168.29m), according to a statement.

Savola, which owns the Middle East's biggest sugar refining business and is the largest shareholder in diary giant Almarai Co, will book a SR231.4m capital gain on the sale during 2012.

As part of the deal, Knowledge Economic City will get two parcels of land in Medina covering just over 2 million square metres.

Knowledge Economic City, one of four economic cities the kingdom is building to diversify its economy, said the two plots are "a natural extension to KEC land in Medina" and are adjacent to the Haramain high speed train station.

The high-speed Haramain Railway will link Islam's holiest cities Makkah and Medina to the Red Sea coastal city of Jeddah, a key entry point for millions of pilgrims, and to King Abdullah Economic City, currently under construction.

Knowledge Economic City Wayfinding Masterplan awarded to Limah.

Limah Design Consultants begins Wayfinding for the 4.8 million sqm Knowledge Economic City (KEC) Madinah, Saudi Arabia.

The City will feature residential, hospitality, commercial centres, research facilities, museums and shopping areas. The City will be positioned to serve Saudi Arabia’s economic diversification strategy and revive Madinah’s role as a center for the Islamic knowledge, global knowledge and culture.

الانتهاء من المراحل الثلاثة الأولى للمشاريع البنية التحتية لمدنية المعرفة يونيو 2012

مدنية المعرفة الاقتصادية تتكلف 7 مليار دولار ومن المتوقع الانتهاء منها فى 2020

14 مايو 2012- اكد مصدر موثوق بمدينة المعرفة الاقتصادية لزاوية، انه جارى الانتهاء من المرحلة الاولي من تطوير مشروع حي الفلل السكنية المغلق "دار الجوار" الذى تتول إنشاءه شركة المعرفة العقارية، والتي تضم 206 فيلا والتي تم إطلاقها في شهر يونيو الماضي، و سيتم استلام أول دفعاتها قبل نهاية يونيو من العام الحالي.


أشار المصدر أيضا إلي أنه سيتم الانتهاء من المراحل الثلاثة الأولى الخاصة بمشاريع البنية التحتية للمدينة ، في منتصف العام 2012، والتي تكلف 2.21 مليار ريال، وتستغرق أربعة مراحل، حيث تتضمن الربط مع شبكة الكهرباء والمياه والصرف الصحي، و تشكل 40 % من إجمالي مساحة المنطقة الشمالية بمدينة المعرفة الاقتصادية.
ثلاثة محاور

ووفقا لدراسة مدينة المعرفة أشارت إلي أن المرحلة الاولي تعتمد علي مشاريع الربط للبنية التحتية.وسوف تتم علي ثلاثة 3 محاور رئيسية : أولاً: تنفيذ البنية التحتية كأولوية قصوى وذلك بتكملة مشاريع الربط بشبكات الكهرباء والمياه والصرف الصحي والبدء في تنفيذ الخدمات البلدية الداخلية للمنطقة الشمالية
ثانياً: جذب الاستثمارات في القطاعات المعرفية مع التركيز على التعليم وذلك من خلال المساهمة بأراضي مطورة ذات بنية تحتية متقدمة وذكية وإيجاد البيئة الاستثمارية المحفزة بالاستفادة من الأنظمة والحوافز المقدمة من هيئة المدن الاقتصادية
ثالثاً: تنفيذ مشاريع التطوير العقاري في المرحلة الأولى من خلال التطوير الذاتي لبعض المشاريع الحيوية أو الاستثمار المشترك أو من خلال فتح المجال للمطورين الآخرين والاستفادة من السيولة المتولدة والأرباح الرأسمالية.
مشروعات المرحلة الأولى :
حي سكني راقي يتكون من 900 فيلا، وسيكون أول حي "مغلق" يوفر كامل الخصوصية والطمأنينة لقاطنيه.
مجمعات للعمائر السكنية بشقق من أحجام مختلفة ومتكاملة الخدمات، سيتم تطويرها بالتعاون مع مطورين من ذوي الخبرة العريقة في هذا المجال
مجمعات للزوار والذي يتوقع أن تكون مقصداً متكامل الخدمات للحجاج والمعتمرين، وإضافة نوعية في ظل الزيادة المتوقعة في أعداد الزائرين
برجين متعددي الاستخدامات أحدهما فندق والآخر سيحتوي على مركز للمعارض والمؤتمرات بالإضافة إلى مكاتب ومحلات تجارية
منطقة للمحلات التجارية ومراكز التجزئة مصممة على الطراز المديني القديم لإضفاء طابع تراثي وسياحي كعامل جذب وتميز، ومن المتوقع ربط هذا المشروع بالمنطقة المركزية من خلال وسائل النقل المترددة.

مشاريع القطاع المعرفي وتشمل على مدارس دولية للبنين والبنات، كلية تقنية، ومتحف للسيرة النبوية وآخر للعلوم والتكنولوجيا.

ووفقا لتقرير لشركة مدينة المعرفة الاقتصادية، أشار إلي أن انطلاقة مدينة المعرفة جاءت متزامنةً ومتواكبةً مع مشروعات تطويرية عملاقة في المدنية المنورة، من أبرزها مشروع تطوير المنطقة المركزية، و التوسعة الجديدة لساحات الحرم سوف تزيد الطاقة الاستيعابية من 600 ألف إلى مليون مصل.
أشار التقرير إلي أن مشروع إنشاء محطة قطار الحرمين في طرف مدينة المعرفة، بطاقته الاستيعابية 6 ملايين مسافر ، يعتبر من أهم عوامل النجاح التي ستتزامن مع اكتمال تطوير المرحلة الأولى لمدينة المعرفة الاقتصادية لتستفيد مع حركة التطوير التي ستشهدها المدينة المنورة، كما أشار التقرير أيضا، إلى أهمية مشروع تطوير مطار الأمير محمد بن عبدالعزيز الدولي، حيث من المتوقع أن ترتفع الطاقة الاستيعابية للمطار في المرحلة الأولى المنتهية بعام 2014 م إلى 8 ملايين مسافر وهو ما سيزيد الطلب على اسكان الزائرين والخدمات المساندة.

منطقة العمائر السكنية، وهي مجمعات شبه مغلقة توفر لقاطنيها الراحة، وتحتوي على شقق سكنية متعددة المساحات ، وحدائق أطفال وممرات للمشاة، وخدمات ترفيهية، تتضمن مناطق خضراء، وملاعب وحدائق وتضمن ألف وحدة سكنية ضمن مباني متوسطة الارتفاع من 6 إلى 8 أدوار، وإجمالي مساحة مسطحة تقدر ب 136ألف متر مربع، ويمكن توفير فرص استثمارية بمساحات تتناسب مع رغبة المطورين.

أعلنت مدينة المعرفة الاقتصادية أنها أنهت 90 % من الفلل السكنية ضمن المشروع السكني في المدينة، ووقعت عقدا لإنشاء أول مستشفى فيها.


وكانت مدينة المعرفة بصدد تطوير أراض بكافة خدماتها تمهيدا لعرضها للبيع، حيث تسعى مدينة المعرفة من تطوير البنية التحتية والمرافق فيها إلى جذب المستثمرين.

وقال "إياد مدني" رئيس مجلس إدارة مدينة المعرفة إن المدينة ليست مشروعا حكوميا مقارنة بالجبيل وينبع والمدن الصناعية، وهي كذلك ليست مشروعا منفصلا عن المدينة المنورة، وإنما هي مشروع يوفر فرصا استثمارية للقطاع الخاص، وهو مشروع ربحي يقوم على القطاع المعرفي.

وأشار إلى أن إدارة مدينة المعرفة تبحث عن فرص تبنى على القطاع المعرفي، وأن المدينة ستتعاون قريبا مع مدينة الملك عبد الله للطاقة الذرية والمتجددة للحصول على الطاقة الجوفية، كما تسعى لإقامة اتفاقات وشراكات مع جامعات عدة.

وفي سياق ذي صلة، قال أمين المدينة المنورة، إن أمانة المدينة تخطط لمشاريع حول مدينة المعرفة، ومنها ربط الموقع العام بشبكة الطرق والبنية التحتية.

KEC sells Madinah plot to Saudi Hotels for $14m

Knowledge Economic City, the development company set up to deliver a university-led city complex in Madinah, has sold a 10,500m2 plot to Makarim Al-Maarifa Co - a company which is 50%-owned by the Saudi Hotels & Resorts Company.

The land on King Abdulaziz Road will be used to develop a hotel which includes apartment suites, shops, offices and multipurpose halls.

Saudi Hotels Company said that the deal would be financed from Makarim Al-Maarifa's own internal resources.

Meanwhile, Knowledge Economic City said that it estimated a profit of $5m from the signing, which will be included in its third-quarter income statement.

Around 25% of KEC's shares are owned by a charitable housing foundation owned by King Abdullah, while a further 25% are owned by the city's developers.

يجري في المدينة المنورة مساء اليوم تدشين مشاريع عدة لمدينة المعرفة الاقتصادية، إحدى المدن الاقتصادية التي أمر الملك عبد الله بن عبد العزيز بإنشائها في المملكة عام 2006. ويحضر التدشين الأمير عبد العزيز بن ماجد بن عبد العزيز أمير منطقة المدينة المنورة إلى جانب عدد كبير من شخصيات المنطقة وعدد من المسؤولين في القطاعين العام والخاص أصحاب العلاقة بمشاريع المدينة الاقتصادية التي تحتفل اليوم بإنجاز عدد من مشاريعها. وأكد خالد عبد القادر طاش نائب الرئيس للتسويق والمبيعات في مدينة المعرفة الاقتصادية أن 2013 هو الموعد المتوقع لانتهاء إنشاء البنية التحتية للمنطقة الشمالية التي تمثل مشاريعها 40 في المائة من إجمالي حجم المشروع، فيما يتوقع اكتمال مشاريع المرحلة الأولى كالمستشفى المركزي الطبي الدولي والحي السكني والأبراج الفندقية ودخولها حيز التشغيل عام 2016.

وكشف خالد طاش أمس لـ"الاقتصادية" أن الحفل المُقام اليوم في مدينة المعرفة بالمدينة المنورة يهدف إلى الإعلان عن توقيع وتدشين بعض المشاريع والمبادرات المعرفية والتنموية والاقتصادية، وأن من النقاط المهمة التي سيتم إبرازها في الحفل أن لمدينة المعرفة ثلاثة محاور رئيسية في بنائها تشمل التخطيط والبنية التحتية، وجذب المشاريع المعرفية المتميزة، وتطوير المشاريع العقارية والتنموية والخدماتية المختلفة سواء كانت سكنية أو تجارية أو تعليمية أو خدمات عامة توفر البيئة المناسبة للأفراد للعمل والسكن والاستثمار في المدينة.

وقال طاش إن أحد المشاريع المهمة التي سيتم الكشف عنها اليوم إنشاء مستشفى المركز الطبي الدولي ليكون بنفس إمكانات مستشفى المركز الطبي الذي كان خادم الحرمين الشريفين قد افتتحه في جدة قبل نحو أربعة أعوام، إضافة إلى الاتفاقية مع الشركة السعودية للفنادق على إنشاء أول فندق في مدينة المعرفة، مشيراً إلى أن أهمية المشروع في أن المدينة المنورة تمر حاليا بنهضة عمرانية شاملة من أبرزها التوسعة التاريخية التي أمر بها خادم الحرمين الشريفين للمسجد النبوي وتوسعة المطار، ما يترتب عليه ازدياد أعداد الزوار وبالتالي زيادة الطاقة الفندقية، وقال إن مدينة المعرفة ستشكل أحد أهم وأكبر المجالات الاستثمارية بالمجال الفندقي في المدينة المنورة، وأضاف أن من أبرز مشاريع المحور الأول استكمال مشروع رؤية مدينة المعرفة لأن تكون مدينة ذكية، وذلك بتوقيع اتفاقية مع الاتصالات السعودية لتشغيل شبكة الاتصالات وتقنية المعلومات الذكية.

وحول الموعد المتوقع لانتهاء مشاريع مدينة المعرفة قال طاش إنه لا يمكن تحديد تاريخ لانتهاء المشروع، ولكن المخطط مقسم لمراحل، المرحلة الأولى تشمل البنية التحتية للمنطقة الشمالية للمشروع التي تمثل 40 في المائة من إجمالي حجم المشروع والمتوقع الانتهاء منها نهاية عام 2013، وأضاف أن أبرز مشاريع المرحلة الأولى مثل مستشفى المركز الطبي الدولي والحي السكني والأبراج الفندقية تدخل في حيز التشغيل بعد اكتمال نهايتها تقريباً عام 2016، وهو التاريخ الذي تبدأ فيه الحياة – حسب وصفه – تدب في مدينة المعرفة الاقتصادية في المدينة المنورة بإذن الله من خلال اكتمال المشاريع التي سيكمل بعضها بعضا.

وكان شهر تشرين الأول (أكتوبر) من عام 2011 قد شهد إنجاز مدينة المعرفة الاقتصادية لخطوات متقدمة بعد أشهر طويلة من الغياب عن المشهد الإعلامي، إذ احتفلت المدينة المنورة حينها بافتتاح ديوان المعرفة في قلب الأرض المقترحة للمدينة الاقتصادية الخاصة بالصناعات المعرفية، وفي قلب الديوان الجديد تم الاحتفال بتوقيع عدد من المشاريع والبرامج الاقتصادية والثقافية المعنية بتعزيز التقنية وتكريس القيم الأخلاقية في الوقت نفسه من خلال افتتاح متحف يعرض الصور التاريخية لمدينة الرسول الكريم.

ودشن الأمير عبد العزيز بن ماجد بن عبد العزيز أمير منطقة المدينة المنورة وهو على رأس الاحتفال عددا من المشاريع والبرامج في المدينة الاقتصادية التي أمر بها خادم الحرمين الشريفين الملك عبد الله بن عبد العزيز في صيف عام 2006 وخصص لها نحو خمسة ملايين متر مربع على بعد نحو خمسة كيلو مترات من الحرم النبوي. وينتظر لديوان المعرفة عقب مرور عام على افتتاحه أن يكون مركزا متاحا للمثقفين والمفكرين وطلاب العلم الذين يزورون المدينة النبوية لإقامة فعالياتهم الثقافية وأنشطتهم العلمية والتدريبية، كما دشن المقر الجديد لمتحف "دار المدينة المنورة للتراث العمراني" في ديوان المعرفة، الذي يعد نواة لمتحف أو متاحف عدة في المستقبل. وكان الدكتور إياد مدني قد وجه الدعوات لمسؤولين ومهتمين لحضور حفل التدشين للمشاريع الجديدة في المدينة المنورة في الوقت الذي ينتظر أن يحضر المناسبة رؤساء عدد من الشركات ذات العلاقة بخدامات المدينة المعرفية.

حث صاحب السمو الملكي الأمير فيصل بن سلمان بن عبدالعزيز أمير منطقة المدينة المنورة القائمين على مدينة المعرفة على سرعة انجاز مشروع البنية التحتية للمدينة لتحقق أهدافها في تعزيز الحركة الاقتصادية من خلال جذب الاستثمارات المعرفية والاقتصادية المختلفة لمواكبة التنمية التي تشهدها المنطقة، جاء ذلك خلال زيارة سموه امس لديوان المدينة وذلك في إطار تفقده للمرافق والمشروعات الاقتصادية والتنموية في المنطقة وكان في استقبال سموه صاحب السمو الأمير الدكتور بندر بن سلمان بن محمد آل سعود رئيس مجلس إدارة شركة مدينة المعرفة الاقتصادية وأعضاء مجلس الإدارة ومنسوبو مدينة المعرفة، وفي بداية برنامج الزيارة شاهد سموه عرضًا مرئيًا عن مدينة المعرفة وآخر عن مستجدات مشروعاتها الجاري تنفيذها، وقام سموه بجولة في متحف دار المدينة للتراث العمراني الذي يستضيفه ديوان المعرفة اطلع خلالها على محتوى المتحف الذي يصور المدينة المنورة في عهد النبي محمد صلى الله عليه وسلم وفي العصور اللاحقة، كما زار سموه المجمع السكني واطلع على نماذج للفلل السكنية الجاهزة. من جهة اخرى رعى سموه اليوم وبحضور وزير الزراعة الدكتور فهد بن عبدالرحمن بالغنيم، اللقاء الزراعي الرابع لتبادل الخبرات بمنطقة المدينة المنورة.
وأوضح مدير عام الإدارة العامة لشؤون الزراعة بمنطقة المدينة المنورة المهندس إبراهيم بن عبدالعزيز الحجيلي أن اللقاء يهدف إلى تدعيم الخبرات الناجحة بين المنتمين إلى القطاع الزراعي والتعريف بالتجارب والأبحاث التطبيقية المميزة في هذا الحقل, مشيرًا إلى أنه سيصاحبه معرض متخصص يتضمن أحدث ما تم التوصل إليه من الخدمات والتقنيات الزراعية.
وأضاف أن اللقاء الذي سيقام بفندق المريديان بالمدينة المنورة يتضمن عددًا من الجلسات تتناول الإنتاج النباتي، والثروة الحيوانية والسمكية، وحلقة نقاش حول العمالة الزراعية، بمشاركة صندوق التنمية الزراعية للتعريف بالمبادرات السبع الرائدة التي أطلقها مؤخرا.

حث صاحب السمو الملكي الأمير فيصل بن سلمان بن عبدالعزيز أمير منطقة المدينة المنورة القائمين على مدينة المعرفة على سرعة انجاز مشروع البنية التحتية للمدينة لتحقق أهدافها في تعزيز الحركة الاقتصادية من خلال جذب الاستثمارات المعرفية والاقتصادية المختلفة لمواكبة التنمية التي تشهدها المنطقة، جاء ذلك خلال زيارة سموه امس لديوان المدينة وذلك في إطار تفقده للمرافق والمشروعات الاقتصادية والتنموية في المنطقة وكان في استقبال سموه صاحب السمو الأمير الدكتور بندر بن سلمان بن محمد آل سعود رئيس مجلس إدارة شركة مدينة المعرفة الاقتصادية وأعضاء مجلس الإدارة ومنسوبو مدينة المعرفة، وفي بداية برنامج الزيارة شاهد سموه عرضًا مرئيًا عن مدينة المعرفة وآخر عن مستجدات مشروعاتها الجاري تنفيذها، وقام سموه بجولة في متحف دار المدينة للتراث العمراني الذي يستضيفه ديوان المعرفة اطلع خلالها على محتوى المتحف الذي يصور المدينة المنورة في عهد النبي محمد صلى الله عليه وسلم وفي العصور اللاحقة، كما زار سموه المجمع السكني واطلع على نماذج للفلل السكنية الجاهزة. من جهة اخرى رعى سموه اليوم وبحضور وزير الزراعة الدكتور فهد بن عبدالرحمن بالغنيم، اللقاء الزراعي الرابع لتبادل الخبرات بمنطقة المدينة المنورة.
وأوضح مدير عام الإدارة العامة لشؤون الزراعة بمنطقة المدينة المنورة المهندس إبراهيم بن عبدالعزيز الحجيلي أن اللقاء يهدف إلى تدعيم الخبرات الناجحة بين المنتمين إلى القطاع الزراعي والتعريف بالتجارب والأبحاث التطبيقية المميزة في هذا الحقل, مشيرًا إلى أنه سيصاحبه معرض متخصص يتضمن أحدث ما تم التوصل إليه من الخدمات والتقنيات الزراعية.
وأضاف أن اللقاء الذي سيقام بفندق المريديان بالمدينة المنورة يتضمن عددًا من الجلسات تتناول الإنتاج النباتي، والثروة الحيوانية والسمكية، وحلقة نقاش حول العمالة الزراعية، بمشاركة صندوق التنمية الزراعية للتعريف بالمبادرات السبع الرائدة التي أطلقها مؤخرا.
وأفاد الحجيلي أن الملتقى سيتطرق إلى البحوث التطويرية في المجالات الحيوية والتقنيات المتقدمة في الزراعة، والتصنيع والتسويق الزراعي، والتنمية الريفية، والغذاء والتغذية.
ويهتم اللقاء بإبراز التجارب الرائدة والمبتكرة في مجال الإنتاج النباتي والحيواني والتصنيع والتسويق الزراعي والبحوث التطويرية في المجالات الحيوية والتقنيات المتقدمة في الزراعة والتنمية الريفية والغذاء والتغذية.
