RafflesCity April 22nd, 2003, 08:10 PM Nice pics. It will look even more impressive when those plants grow:) What flights will this terminal handle?
ewh1 April 22nd, 2003, 10:58 PM It will handle All International Flights.. the ones are confirmed are Thai Airways, Singapore Airlines Northwest Airlines Japan Airlines Korean Airlines Lufthansa and Air France. But anyways all international flights are to operate here
The Pride April 23rd, 2003, 02:24 AM I heard that it will open this August 2003.. Hopefully...
ryanr April 23rd, 2003, 03:52 AM sweet pics:okay: It looks ready to be opened...looking forward to it.

Terminal 3 is the NEW INTERNATIONAL terminal. which means all international flights will operate here
Terminal 2 (opened in 1999) will accomadate all DOMESTIC Operations
Terminal 1 (opened in 1983) will be converted to something else or else.. Demolished. it cannot handle vary many passengers and the Manila Airports has outgrown that amount of space NAIA 1 offers (5 million PAX). there are rumors that it may be converted to a mall or a Cargo facility.
Transportation to the airport will improve more when the LRT 1 extension is completed (construction to start in a few months time) and again will be more efficent when MRT line 3 starts construction to the airport also
szehoong April 23rd, 2003, 06:19 AM Cool design!
How much bigger is this compared to NAIA 1?
bagel April 23rd, 2003, 06:26 AM If terminal 1 will be demolished, then does it make sense for terminal 2 to be called terminal 2 and terminal 3 to be called terminal 3 if there won't be a terminal 1?
Furthermore, there is still the issue of the old domestic terminal (I believe this is where Cebu Pacific and other local carriers fly from). That facility is truly despicable. Maybe they will move those airlines to terminal 1?
Oh and I hope that terminal 3 will be much much larger than terminal 2. Terminal 2 is extremely small and makes sense sizewise for only one carrier (PAL).
ewh1 April 23rd, 2003, 06:56 AM Air Philippines, Cebu Pacific, Philippine Airlines Domestic, Asian Spirit and Southeast Asian Airlines (SEAir) will all be operating in Terminal 2. The old domestic terminals will be Demolished! (yay:D )
Terminal 3 is a very long airport... it is about 1.6km Long!!
renell April 23rd, 2003, 12:19 PM this is exactly what i saw when i passed it by during my Manila visit last January.
i heard NAIA1 might be converted to something like a cargo terminal since NAIA3 doesn't have cargo facilities.. and also PAL doesn't want to move to NAIA3, it wants to stick to NAIA2. If that does happen, the domestic will have to move to NAIA1.. i hope if the int'l flights transfer to NAIA3, and domestic to 1, then they renovate the place coz the place needs a makeover!
hopefully they open the place before i go visit Manila again.. that was i was saying 4 months ago.. fingers crossed
ryanr April 24th, 2003, 08:39 AM i heard that the old domestic terminal will be either demolished or turned back into hangers like it used to be...
Terminal 2 will be purely domestic, cebu pacific, PAL, air philippines, etc will operate there.
Terminal 3 will be international, including PAL's international flights.
There is also supposed to be a monorail that is to be built connecting Terminal 2 and 3. It is supposed to go under the secondary runway. I dont know whether they will still build it, but i sure hope so, and soon! There is also a underground road connection, proposed.
Terminal 3 is so much bigger than NAIA 2. Ideal for international flights. The areas around NAIA 3 have been improved and re-developed, ready for the airport's opening. I sure hope they open it soon. I heard that Arroyo wants to use the new airport before her trip to Germany in August, so expect it's opening before that.
I have a couple of pics of the other side of NAIA 3 (taken march 2003), but it's at home and my net is busted.
swatch69sg April 24th, 2003, 11:06 AM There used to be an existing official website for NAIA T3:
www.naiat3.com
But it's no longer functional. Wonder what happened to it.
Anybody knows other website about our dear new airport?

weirdo April 30th, 2003, 01:20 AM the new terminal looks neat. cool. i hope they'd be able to keep it clean.

hahaha, lol. didnt u get that =, = style from me:D nice though, makes perfect sense:okay:
ryanr April 30th, 2003, 03:48 PM This off topic but, you know how NAIA Terminal 2 has is all glass and steel? And did i mention more glass? well, the glass is allowing lots of light and heat into the building therefore makes it really hot inside, even with the a/c on full blast. There are not that many a/c ducts, contributing to the heat as well. I think they should install more a/c ducts to cool the place. Good thing NAIA 3 doesnt have as much glass on it than NAIA 2, and it still looks good.
renell April 30th, 2003, 04:54 PM well a lot of glass isn't the problem, many buildings in the world have a lot of glass.. it might be just the positioning of the glass, and tinted glass might really help

Yeah, a lot of the modern buildings use glass and steel architecture. And i like it. But what i was saying was for NAIA 2 size and amount of glass, it has very little a/c ducts to cool the place. They should do something about that, because it gets really hot.
renell May 2nd, 2003, 05:02 PM that a pity if they don't have enough a/c.. world class airport, i mean, hot world class airport :(
rico May 2nd, 2003, 06:03 PM it wasn't so hot when i last used that airport? maybe you guys just used it at a bad day. :D
renell May 2nd, 2003, 08:21 PM yeah, or it must be the a/c's were being repaired..
oh god, i feel so sorry for myself for being so ignorant in NAIA2 matters:bash:

ryanr May 6th, 2003, 03:10 PM Yeah, i knew it wouldnt be opened till August or July but i was just wondering why there are cars and people there....
SKYLINEPIGEON May 6th, 2003, 04:14 PM the phil supreme court has ruled the contract between piatco the builder of the terminal and the government null and void, so the terminal will most likely be operated by the government and the builder refunded for the cost of building the terminal

yeah a cargo terminal is a good idea. And also a delivery carrier handling center. Fedex, UPS, DHL can all use it.
Expanding NAIA 2 would be cool, but i dont think it would be feasable. I would much rather see Clark get developed.
renell May 10th, 2003, 12:10 PM imo, Clark won't get fully developed until NAIA3 gets past its prime, which won't be till it gets open and probably about a decade...

NAIA terminal starting to stink
The Philippine Star 10/12/2003
The comfort rooms of the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 1 building have started to stink due to a still busted main water pipe located at the airport complex.
The building is managed by the Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA), the Philippine government’s airport authority in Metro Manila.
There are 50 comfort rooms at the NAIA Terminal 1, 25 ladies rooms and 25 others for the gentlemen.
At the departure area, 3rd level, there are three comfort rooms for men and ladies located at the WOW Restaurant and the former Kayumanggi Restaurant now a waiting room for departing passengers; three each for ladies and men at the check-in counter of the departure area; one each at the immigration area of departure; two each at the Duty Free area; one each for West Satellite Concourse; and one each for East Satellite Concourse.
At the arrival area, 2nd level, there are 20 comfort rooms — two of each for men and ladies at the immigration area; two each for the Duty Free area; two each at the basement area; one each at the East Satellite Concourse; one each at the West Satellite Concourse; and two each at the basement ramp area.

The MIAA has been working on the repairs of the busted water pipes.
As of yesterday afternoon, the Rescue and Firefighting Division of the MIAA has provided water for the meantime while personnel and passengers at the NAIA use these comfort rooms. MIAA General Manager Edgardo Manda could not be reached for comment yesterday. – Sandy Araneta

ryanr October 12th, 2003, 03:26 AM  OUGH!! they really need to open the NAIA 3...NAIA 1 is just so embarrasing to tourists and other travellers...
weirdo October 12th, 2003, 03:33 AM before the elections it will be open. :)
maybe gma will use it for campaign. :) or maybe there are security threats these days. they can't just let this beautiful structure be shattered into pieces.
renell October 12th, 2003, 12:09 PM hm... weirdo could be right. she might open it just before the elections. not that i support her, i can't vote anyways, but i hope she DOES open the effin thing
weirdo October 12th, 2003, 05:56 PM she must open it during her term. else the prestige won't belong to her admin...but who knows, she's still in control. maybe she can have her way and win-not that i mistrust her, but while she's in power there's a possibility that figures can be manipulated for her advantage. and the election is vulnerable to errors. remember that it will be the first time that computers will be used by voters. ok. but it's not our concern. they should open the new airport. NOW!
i will calm down...a term paper in 6 hours! >(
Francis20 October 17th, 2003, 01:49 AM hahaa...u all should ask god to give you something... called PATIENCE. ask him to give it right NOW!!!
NAIA/PIATCO and FRAPORT are once again on the headlines this week. that's due to allegedly conspiracies...blah blah, this Malacañang pipol asking for bribe from Fraport/Cheng family, etc. i couldn't care less. they should open the new airport, or it's going to be another white elephant. no way. target date before was November last year. but it's already close to Nov 2003 and still no signs of it opening.
ur all right, pasabugin na lang natin. ill provide the nitrates, u go get the gadgets. hahaha...opps, im sure this post will be edited by mr mods.

bagel October 28th, 2003, 03:55 AM Still under litigation. Fraport and the Philippine government. Just open it. Who cares who wins the litigation.
ryanr October 28th, 2003, 10:04 AM So what happens if Fraport wins? How about if the Philippine govt wins?
Thats what i've been saying...open now, talk later!!!
bagel October 28th, 2003, 03:00 PM I think the operator is at stake. They can't operate it if they're fighting over who will operate it (and makes money over the concessions).
What I suggest. One of them operate it at zero profit-- it is a public service. Litigate. The interim operator will be paid if the other wins the litigation. If the interim operator wins the litigation, they don't need to be paid since they will operate it anyway.
So simple! They should put me in there to manage it!

absent-minded October 30th, 2003, 07:16 AM by the time they get the darn thing open, it can no longer be called "ultra-modern"... and, its deteriorating by the day, so just get the freakin airport running before it starts to fall apart!
bagel October 30th, 2003, 09:53 AM I'm too lazy to see if this has been posted in the previous several pages...
but the piatco airport page is located at:
http://www.naiat3.com
there's a nice quicktime tour of the place.... still... would be nice to see real pictures and not models.

absent-minded October 31st, 2003, 02:46 AM go to www.som.com for interior pics of NAIA 3. its the website of Skidmore, Owings, and Merrill, architects of the terminal. They have real interior pics, not just 3D models (or at least they look real, not sure)...

It's so beautiful right now. How many months do you think it will take for the bathroom to look muddy and the inside to look grimy?
The Pride October 31st, 2003, 03:44 AM its soo clean!! the government needs to hurry up!! lol.. people cant wait any longer!
weirdo October 31st, 2003, 06:18 AM nice pics. they look so clean now (obviously. i hope they can maintain that) and it looks neat. not so beautiful though. but it's ok.
The Pride October 31st, 2003, 06:50 AM not so beautiful? haha nice one
weirdo October 31st, 2003, 07:14 AM i'm sorry but that's what i think. it's ok. it will pass international standards and is way way way way way way way way better than terminal one. but to me it's not very beautiful. or i was expecting too much? ok i know for a developing country like the philippines it's supercool but i believe we could do a lot better than that.
it looks like it could be anwhere. being a little more filipino-looking will do some good. maybe when people start coming it will.
ryanr October 31st, 2003, 11:14 AM :eek2::omg: WOW, those are the best pics of NAIA 3 i've ever seen. It's so beautiful and modern!! I love the design (especially in the check-in counters area). I dont like the toilet though. Its not that nice compared to other new toilets. I dont like the tiles they use on the walls.
c'mon guys dont be so negative, im sure they can maintain and keep the airport clean all the time.
Weirdo is right though, it would have been better if there was more pinoy in it.
ryanr October 31st, 2003, 11:18 AM btw, i've been to the SOM website before but they never had it then. Thanks for spotting these pics, absent-minded. and thanks for hotlinking them boyflood:D
do u mind if i post these in the asian area so that everyone can see?
bagel October 31st, 2003, 05:29 PM I don't mind. They're not my photos. I only stole them. :D
Actually, I take back what I said about beautiful. Modern yes. Clean yes. Beautiful, I don't know. It's certainly utilitarian, but I think the architecture in NAIA 2 is better and more beautiful (though it's not as utilitarian as this one and certainly not well designed for Philippine weather-- it's a greenhouse).
Design-wise, it's not really inspiring and looks like other SOM architecture. Boring. A beautiful airport is one that lets people aspire for flight. For instance, the old TWA Terminal in NY's JFK Airport by Eero Saarinen. That building had emotion, which NAIA3 does not.
For pictures, look here: http://www.lightningfield.com/extra/0103twa/
NAIA3 is a buttoned down starched suit to Saarinen's Haute Couture. A greybox PC to Saarinen's iMac. Or if you will, a Nissan Sentra to Saarinen's Bugatti Veyron.
weirdo October 31st, 2003, 06:11 PM but the som website is good.
bagel October 31st, 2003, 07:15 PM Yes. The SOM website is good. And it rhymes too. SOM-Com.
You know what? NAIA3 does look like it can be anywhere in the world. I realized after playing around with the SOM website SOM also designed SF Intl Airport and Terminal 4 at NY's JFK. They look all alike from the inside! And even the outside features are familiar. No originality... there you go.... as cool as NAIA3 is, I'm already knocking it for its design derivativeness.
But it will still be good for the Philippines. Open the damn place up!
weirdo October 31st, 2003, 07:45 PM somcom is fun
here we go again. asking people to open this damn airport. though we know they wont these things. :)
but still i write: open the terminal three!
Edmundtanso October 31st, 2003, 08:30 PM the pictures of NAIA 3 that i want to share was at SOM website, boybaha uploaded it already for me :)
it surely looks very nice.
sorry can not take photos of manila skyscrapers because i am living in the US currently. would share some though if i fins something.
thanks for the info regarding uploading photos.
have a good weekend.
Francis20 November 1st, 2003, 01:15 AM keep on posting ET.
the length of the airport is said to be 1000 m. the longest structure (length wise) in the country today. even longer than SM Megamall.
renell November 1st, 2003, 04:31 PM those interior photos look nice. i've been to many airports around the world. NAIA3 looks like it's on par with the others.
NAIA3 can be located anywhere around the world. but think about NAIA1, it can't be located anywhere but in Paranaque;)

Actually its 1100m (1.1 km):) or is it 1200m? whatever..
i agree with renell, i've been to many airports in the world and this is on par with the most modern airports. Sometimes even better than some of European and American Airports.

SKYLINEPIGEON November 1st, 2003, 08:32 PM it will be more beautiful once they started operating and putting all those advertising signs and filipinianna decors, motiffs etc all over the place it will definitely look like you arrived in the philippines mabuhay

maybe your right.. another politics?
the_sailor_977 December 12th, 2003, 03:17 AM If not sooner, the Terminal 3 will open later. Probably, when we have a new president who will do all the means to open this terminal. I am sure that the new Terminal will open. They just can't leave it as simple as that. For sure, the increasing air traffic would need another terminal to address the needs and demands for the passengers. That if the old Terminal 1 finally exceeded its maximum tolerable level, the government would feel the urgency of another terminal. Of course, they would not build another terminal and leave the Terminal 3 that way. They have no choice than to open it.
ryanr December 12th, 2003, 04:37 AM yeah they will definitely open it. No question about that. The problem is when? 2004? 2005 or maybe 10 years from now?? I sure hope it will be soon, at least early 2004 or when a new president is elected (or if GMA gets re-elected).
renell December 12th, 2003, 04:52 PM if it doesn't open in 10 years, greyx, we will have a short-term home for our dislocated MM squatters;)

If you're flying domestic and don't want to deal with yucky airport, fly Philippine Airlines. That way, you at least get to use NAIA Terminal 2. But if you fly on the likes of Cebu Pacific, make sure you bring along some Purigel alcohol hand cleansers so that you don't get contaminated by the airport.

renell March 17th, 2004, 04:51 PM Construction of NAIA project starts today
By CHITO A. CHAVEZ
MMDA Chairman Bayani Fernando advised motorists to fix their schedules and plan their trips as the Sales on and off northbound ramps will be closed to traffic at the start of the construction of Phase 1 of the NAIA Expressway Project.
Vehicles from Villamor Airbase bound for Manila and Makati City are advised to take the southeast access loop on the northern portion of the South Luzon Expressway or Pasong Tamo Extension.
Southbound vehicles from the South Luzon Expressway going to Villamor Airbase are directed to exit at Circumferential Road 5 (C-5), U-turn at the East Service Road, turn left to Sales, or take the Magallanes Loop going to the southern portion of the South Luzon Expressway leading to Villamor Airbase.
Vehicles plying the South Luzon Expressway going southbound to Pasay City, Makati, and Manila are requested to take other alternate routes or may use the elevated Skyway.
Southbound private vehicles from Manila and Makati area coming from the Roxas Blvd. and the President Diosdado Macapagal Boulevard (PDMB) may turn right at either Sen. Gil Puyat Ave. (Buendia) or EDSA or take either Roxas Blvd. or PDMB, leading to Sucat Ave. Or they simply may use the Skyway via Buendia on ramp.
Northbound vehicles from the Alabang (Muntinlupa)-Muntinlupa City area may use Roxas Blvd. or PDMB and C-5 Road exiting either at Alabang or Sucat leading towards the westbound direction of the MIA Road.
They may also take the Alabang-Zapote Road leading to Roxas Blvd. or PDMB via the Coastal Road Expressway or they may opt to use the elevated Skyway via the Bicutan on-ramp
ryanr March 20th, 2004, 02:42 AM Sweet!! I havent heard anything about that until now. I'm glad they are starting it. It shouldnt take long coz its not gonna be a long highway. Isnt this a sign that NAIA 3 will open soon;)

NAIA 3 partial opening set for July--MIAA
By Tarra Quismundo
Philippine Daily Inquirer
http://newsinfo.inquirer.net/breakingnews/metro/view/20080616-143043/NAIA-3-partial-opening-set-for-July--MIAA
MANILA, Philippines -- Airport officials will attempt a partial opening of the mothballed Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 3 (NAIA 3)in July with trial operations by domestic carriers.
Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) officials said on Monday they were holding talks with Cebu Pacific Air and Philippine Airlines for a tryout of the controversial new terminal.
The terminal was more than 90 percent completed in 2002 when the Supreme Court voided a multi-billion-dollar contract between the government and an international consortium over graft issues.
An attempt to open the terminal in 2007 was aborted after engineers found structural problems, among them a ceiling that collapsed and weakened beams. Repairs are still underway.
“We will open for domestic operations. We are addressing safety concerns before opening the terminal. We won’t open if we will be endangering domestic passengers,” said MIAA development and corporate affairs chief Tirso Serrano said.
Since the repairs began, Serrano said MIAA’s engineering consultants deemed portions of the terminal safe for operation and told the agency “it can’t be all that bad.”
“We will identify a section that can be safely operated. It will be a phased transfer, but this is a temporary arrangement. We can say that for sure Terminal 3 will operate for international flights eventually,” he said.
Asked how long the interim would be, Serrano said: “It could be one year, it could be three years.”

Yeah, a lot of the modern buildings use glass and steel architecture. And i like it. But what i was saying was for NAIA 2 size and amount of glass, it has very little a/c ducts to cool the place. They should do something about that, because it gets really hot.
i think they used low-e glazed windows, allowing less heat to enter the building.
the problem in T1 and T2 are the bathrooms and the chairs!
