New luxury hotel for Doha

W HOTELS, a leading luxury hotel brand, yesterday announced plans to open the W Doha Hotel & Residences in Qatar by the end of 2007.

The W Doha, in the West Bay area, will be the brand’s second hotel in the Middle East following the W Dubai Festival City, a release issued in New York said.

Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide, Inc , W’s parent company, has entered into an agreement with J&A Jaidah, principals of J&A Jaidah Holdings, to execute the project. Starwood will manage the hotel on behalf of J&A Jaidah.

W Doha will feature 292 guest rooms, including 31 suites and 154 W Residences, multiple signature restaurants, a poolside outdoor shisha lounge, event space and luxury retail space.

"As the Middle East booms as a business and leisure destination, W is proud to offer a new kind of experience for visitors and the local community in this region," said Ross Klein, President of W Hotels Worldwide.

"The new hotel will offer the ‘Living Room’ experience the brand is known for, creating a place where guests and the local community can socialise, poolside lounge areas and spectacular views of the Arabian Gulf.

"Guests and residents will be treated to the W brand’s signature Whatever/Whenever(R) service, the hotel’s 24-hour concierge that can provide whatever guests want (from a pair of running shoes to private jet service), whenever they want it.

"W Doha will offer a level of design, energy and style that does not yet exist in Qatar while giving our guests access to some of the most authentic and treasured elements of the city, including shopping in traditional souqs and desert safaris."

United Designers of London, best known for designing projects around the world including U2’s The Clarence Hotel in Dublin and the Metropolitan Hotel in London, have been chosen as the designers for the W Doha project.

"Coming on the heels of the W Dubai Festival City announcement, W Doha is another major step for the W brand in an exciting and dynamic region and another step for Starwood that further solidifies its position as the leading global hotel operator in the Middle East," said Roeland Vos, president, Starwood Europe, Africa and the Middle East.

Starwood was one of the first global hotel companies to operate in the Middle East through the Sheraton(R) brand and since its recent Le Meridien(R) brand acquisition, is the largest global operator in the region.

As part of a larger global expansion, the W has announced plans to open hotels in Dubai, the Maldives, Barcelona, Shanghai, Hong Kong, Santiago, and Vieques.

W Hotels is a global lifestyle brand with 20 properties in cities around the world. "Each hotel offers a unique mix of innovative design, comfort and cultural influences from fashion to music to art and everything in between," the release said.

I spend most of my time in Europe now, because of all the mega projects we have I always have to travel, its becoming pretty boring here, it feels so lonely, in the past I was travelling with one of my colleges, now uswally alone, I am getteng very tired of travelling, can you believe it, a Qatari away from his country most of the time, I feel sick, I love my country and can not wait to go back.

I have to check many units of what the company purchase, and it is done in the factory, there are many factories, most of them in Europe.

The worst senario is if one of the emploiees takes his leave, the other ones will have no time in Doha, we are only few people in the company who are trained for this kind of stuff.

BTW, do you think that installing the glass that soon means that they want to finish it before the Asian Games?

word.

rock on Doha, scoring and finishing the region's first W. i'm already planning a visit to see and stay at this place when it opens.

speaking of opening, i found an article about the convention of over 300 top officials from Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide (the company that operates the Sheraton, Westin, Le Méridien, Luxury Collection, St. Regis, W, Four Points by Sheraton, Aloft and Element brands). a small excerpt from the article mentions the introduction of three new Starwood brands to Qatar. i'll attach it below for your reference, but the important bit of it is the mentioning that W Doha will open in March 2008.

sorry to be the bearer of bad news, people. bottom line, though, this W is going to be a trend-setter for the Middle East.

oh damn.

the W looks incredibly sexy. i'm already watching the website so i can make a reservation.

the entire hotel is planned to be one big hangout zone targeting hip, chic urban people, mostly the younger clan in their 20s and 30s. the pool, called WET, will be a lounge zone by night, while the lobby, called the Living Room, will feel more like a relaxing zone than a formal hotel lobby.

i can't wait for the W. good one, Doha.

W Hotels, the fastest growing luxury hotel brand in the world, is set to open the region’s first W hotel in Doha by mid 2008. The W Doha is owned by J&A Jaidah, principals of J&A Jaidah Holdings, one of the most well known and well respected private companies in the Middle East.

Featuring 291 guest rooms and suites, 156 Luxury serviced apartments and four dedicated meeting rooms, the W Doha will stand proudly in the West Bay area of the city. With the high-energy interiors and vivid, lifestyle driven design characteristic of W, it will feature multiple signature restaurants and lounges, the Bliss Spa, Sweat fitness centre and W’s distinctive lobby, called the “Living Room.”

Born out of the recognition that “there are customers who seek a balance between style and substance,” W is already one of the biggest success stories in North America. Since its launch in 1998, W’s portfolio has grown to 21 properties, most of which are in the USA. In recent years, the brand has forayed into international markets like Mexico, South Korea and the Maldives with equal success, and it was only a matter of time before they turned their attention to the burgeoning Middle East markets.

W has carved out a niche for itself in a crowded and often commoditized market. It is, before anything else, the hotel for the young at heart. Ross Klein, president of W Hotels worldwide, elaborated “W is about escaping from the routine and becoming part of all that is ‘Now’. Everyone and everything at the W Doha will be geared towards making sure that guests have a fantastic stay.”

And W’s commitment to guests goes far beyond lip service. W employees, or ‘talent’ as W prefers to call them, are trained to live W’s exclusive Whatever/Whenever™ service concept – they will arrange whatever a guest requests, from his favourite cigar to a chartered jet, whenever it is requested - as long as it is legal.

Apart from the vibrant energy and dramatic design, another theme that runs common to all W hotels is technology. A hugely popular hotel with the young and the aspirational, technology is integrated into the very spirit of W. From electronic check-in, iPod docking stations, IP telephones and interactive television in rooms to complete WiFi access and a meeting room with every conceivable facility, W takes technology and convenience very seriously indeed.

Being the first W in the Middle East, the W Doha will set the precedent for more W Hotels soon to be opened in Dubai, Istanbul and possibly other cities in the region. Meanwhile, the residents of - and tourists to - Doha will undoubtedly make the most of the W experience.

The W Doha Hotel set to open doors

DOHA • The upcoming W Doha Hotel and Residences is all set to open for business by the middle of next year. Finishing touches are now being given to the tower which stands majestically in Qatar's business district of West Bay.

"W Doha is right in the heart of the commercial and financial hub of the city," said Safak Guvenc, General Manager of the W Doha Hotel & Residences, said. It is minutes from the Doha International Airport.

The uniquely designed 29-storeyed W Doha high-rise will feature 291 W guest rooms and suites and 156 W fully-serviced residences amidst picturesque surroundings.

"The building will actually add to the skyline," said Guvenc; "And if you look carefully, you'll notice that the building itself has been shaped like a W," he added.

Born out of the insight that "there are customers who seek a balance between style and substance", the W brand is popular, especially in North America for its high-energy interiors, lifestyle-driven design and abundant use of technology.

Starwood, its parent company, has ventured out with the W brand in recent years with considerable success, opening international branches in countries as diverse as Canada, Mexico, South Korea and the Maldives.

Doha will get the first W in the Middle East, followed by two in Dubai, which are under construction. "The W brand caters specifically to the tastes of the young and the young at heart across the world," commented Guvenc.

"However, the W Doha will be distinctively different from the W properties in North America. We are out not only to bring the W to Qatar, but also to bring Qatar to the W. Design, services and ambiance at the W Doha will all be distinctly influenced by local culture and tastes, and will be an integral part of the 'W Experience," he said.

Aside from the standard conveniences that hotels offer, Starwood has announced that in line with all their W properties, the W Doha will also treat guests to interactive TV systems, home cinemas in the suites, a voicemail service, digital safe deposits and WIFI.

W Doha Hotel and Residences, due to open later this year

W Doha Hotel and Residences, the first W hotel in the Middle East, will use pioneering methods and technology to engage and energise attendees at business meetings and social events.
“With 1,000sq m of cutting edge event space, we have all you need to meet, greet, and connect,” said Safak Guvenc, general manager of the property. ”From the exuberance of the 775sq m Great Room to the intimate comfort of the three event studios, W’s creative approach and innovative design will allow participants to see, smell, sense, learn from, and love every event they attend.”
The Sensory Set Up of the meeting rooms, a unique W concept, is aimed at “stimulating all five senses with mood music and aromatherapy scents, thought-provoking place cards and creative catering, retro candies and inspiring games. It’s a new method to get ideas flowing using sensory inspiration”.
Recognising that breaks during meetings could be used for more than just coffee, W’s Recess crew would offer a menu of fun activities to facilitate team-building and prevent boredom, the GM said.
And if work still isn’t running, Wish Workshops, another signature W programme, would encourage meeting participants to get out of their mid-day routine to uncover hidden talents and learn new skills such as cooking, knitting and yoga.
All meeting rooms will feature virtually limitless technology – from plasma screens and high-speed wireless Internet to state-of-the-art audio/visual equipment.
Guests will have access to W’s exclusive wired business centre, the creative cuisine of Jean-George Vongerichten’s concept restaurants as well as the trademark Whatever/Whenever, a 24-hour concierge service committed to provide guests with “whatever they want, whenever they want it” (as long as it’s legal).
Personal events will also be handled with creative flair. Aptly called Wow Vows, W wedding service is aimed at staging spectacular events to match every occasion and personality.
“Whether you’re looking for a glamorous wedding dinner, a chic commitment ceremony, a reception soirée, or a private night that celebrates just the two of you, we’ll make it your experience of a lifetime,” Guvenc said.
With W pulling all the stops to wow guests and captivate their imagination, Doha residents will now have access to meetings and events facilities on par with the best in the world.
W Doha is due to open later this year.

W Doha Residences prove a big hit

Doha • Over half of the 154 units of the W Doha Residences have already been rented out, four months before they are scheduled to be handed over to tenants. W Doha, managed by Starwood Hotels & Resorts, is the first-of-its-kind project in Qatar. The 291 rooms and suites of the W hotel occupy the lower 15 floors of the stylish new building in West Bay, while floors 16 through 29 are home to the luxury serviced quarters of the W Residences, complete with its own exclusive private entrance.

“We’re obviously thrilled with the response that the W Residences have received so far,” shared Safak Guvenc, General Manager of the W Doha Hotel & Residences, “but naturally there’s an upward pressure on rents because of it.” Elegant and energetic, in the spirit of the W brand, the residences all feature tasteful design, ample privacy and all the comforts of modern living. In addition, they will have 24/7 access to the hotel’s room service, or In-Room Dining as W calls it, as well as W’s trademark WHATEVER/WHENEVER® service — a concierge that will arrange for whatever a guest requests — from his favorite cigar to a chartered jet — whenever he requests it, as long as its legal.

As Starwood Group's W Doha Hotel & Residences gets ready to open in mid-2008, word is already abound of the exceptional levels of comfort and service that guests around the world have come to expect of the W brand.
http://www.ameinfo.com/149610.html
Positioned as the hotel for the young and the young at heart, the W Doha will boast stylish interiors that blend local tastes and contemporary design in perfect harmony. 'The mission is not just to bring the W to Doha, but also to bring Doha to the W,' said Mr. Safak Guvenc, General Manager of the W Doha Hotel & Residences.

Owned by J&A Jaidah, principals of J&A Jaidah Holdings, the W Doha is experimenting with a concept that is unique to Qatar. The first 15 floors of the strikingly beautiful building in West Bay are occupied by the W Hotel with its 291 rooms which include 31 suites, while the 14 floors above it are dedicated to 154 W luxury serviced residences.

A variety of rooms & suites are available for guests to choose from, ranging from the 240 rooms measuring 42 sq m on floors 3 to 15, to the exclusive E Wow Suite, a one-of-its-kind suite on the 15th floor boasting an extravagant 320 sq m of space, the finest Arabian Sea views, luxury furnishings and every technology accessory imaginable including a Bang & Olufsen Audio/Visual system with surround sound, a private meeting room, a pool table, private bar, massage rooms, an aquarium and an oversized bathroom. One of the highlights of the suite is the amazing master bedroom with the signature W king feather bed.

Other options include the 20 rooms located in the corners of floors 3 to 7 for an enhanced view, 16 W suites offering luxurious modern design and state of the art technology including the Bose Lifestyle audio system with surround sound, and 14 Wow Suites with 123 sqm. of space and panoramic views of the Arabian Sea and, like the W Suites, luxury furnishings and state-of-the-art technology including a Bose Lifestyle audio system with surround sound. Three reduced mobility rooms are also available, fully equipped to cater to the special needs of physically challenged individuals.

The W Hotel is built on the premise that there are guests who seek a balance of style and substance when they are traveling. So W has been built to not just be a place to stay, but to enjoy a whole experience, inspiring and indulging guests with refreshing personal touches and whimsical environs. Plush 400-thread-count sheets and 100% goose down comforters are standard in every room, as are soft velour and microfiber bathrobes in rooms and suites respectively. Each room has access to an extensive choice of movies, music and video programs on demand, played back on the superb music system, DVD player and LCD screen televisions that every room features.

Also spoiling guests are the fully stocked Munchie Boxes and variety of turndown amenities for every night of the week.

Technology is omnipresent, with all digital services but a mouse click away for guests to access. Guestrooms are fully wired, featuring the latest cutting-edge services such as WiFi internet access, high-speed laptop connectivity, iPod cradles and the most advanced in-room entertainment systems in the industry.

For the business traveler, W is where work is a pleasure. The wired business center is every business executive's dream, featuring seamless, high-speed connectivity and every audio/visual equipment and accessory that might conceivably be needed by traveling businessmen and executives. The distinctive sensory setup designed by W sets the mood perfectly, enhancing productivity and getting the creative juices flowing, and Wish Workshops are organized around mid-day to help guests avoid post-lunch stupor with light activities such as cooking, knitting or yoga.

Guests will be able to enjoy W's concept restaurants by world-renowned Chef Jean-Georges Vongerichten - Market by Jean Georges and Spice Market, as well as the poolside Wahm Shisha Lounge, Thassos Café in the W's signature Living Room and the Crystal Lounge. Also at the disposal of W guests will be the fully equipped Sweat fitness center, the Bliss spa, the Wet pool and the luxury W the Store by Plum. Room service, or In Room Dining as W calls it, will serve guests at any time of night or day, as will W's trademark 24-hour Whatever/Whenever service - a concierge that will arrange for whatever a guest requests - from his favorite cigar to a 300-foot yacht - whenever he requests it, as long as its legal.

'W is all about creating the Wow Experience for guests,' said Mr. Guvenc. 'It's an approach that reflects W's core vision of delivering a unique stay to guests, encompassing first class service and an experience of the city through art, fashion, music, architecture and of course, hospitality.'
