Cairo. The most dense, intense, and frenetic metropolis I have ever seen. It makes the likes of London, New York, or Tokyo seem quiet and slow.

Excellent thread Clarky.

I'm going for Lagos, just because it is heaving and for me Nigeria is going to be a big player in the future.

The place where I lived in Zimbabwe. Mutare in Manicaland.

Yep. Outside the slums, which take up a small area, the majority of the city is very nice.

The city is mainly inhabited by Kenyans, the majority being middle-class, and foreign peoples working for international organisations like the UN. (the UN has offices in NYC, Nairobi and 3 other cities worldwide.)

The slums and poorest areas are mainly inhabited by refugees from Somalia across the border.

I thought it a good time to show the UK forumers some pictures of the best city in Africa: Mutare in Manicaland where I used to live:

I believe this is 4th street, where I use to live:

When I get the time I will be posting my old non digital pics of Mutare (Umtali) in the Africa section. :)
Looks a very nice town Zim you lived right next to Mozambique.

That's right Clarky, in the picture below Mozambque is on the left and Sakubver High Density area is straight ahead and is where the border crossers and smugglers from Mozambque would sell their stolen goods.

http://www.juergendeuster.de/DSCF0474.jpg

During the war, in the 1970's they used to send missles over into the town.
On the outskirts of town between us and the border are lots of mines and thiefs (I've never had any problems) but people going to the same places have, I've always been lucky like that.

Mutare is a great place because it lies in the Eastern Highlands which is a bit like the Scotland with Pine Trees and mountains.

This is at Nyanga:

This is at Chimanimani:

http://homepage3.nifty.com/chipinge_99/skyline%20view%20at%20Chimanimani%201.jpg

We also have Burma Valley, which in complete contrast to the colder highlands is very humid and is where (was) all the Banana's were grown.

Just a couple of things...

Morocco's capital is Rabat. Casablanca is the biggest city i think, but not the capital.

South Africa has 3 capitals, Pretoria only being the administrative. Cape Town and Bloemfontein are the Legislative and Judicial capitals respectively. (It's ok, i only know that 'coz i'm half South African)

And Nigeria's capital is Abuja, not Lagos. Although, again, Lagos is the biggest.

Sorry to be such a smart arse! Good thread though. My choice (if all three South African capitals are included) is Cape Town. A truly beautiful city. Other than that, probably Cairo.

^ But isn't the overall/most important capital Pretoria.

Here's some more:

Tanzania - Dodoma (not Dar)

Yeah i think it is considered the de facto Capital. I don't understand why S.A has three capitals though, it'd be much more practical just to move everything to one city.

Cape Town isn't a capital city. Not even close!

I'm going for Banjul. It's absolute madness but I love the place.

Isn't Cape Town the home of the SA Parliament?

Isn't Cape Town the home of the SA Parliament?

Yes it is.

It's split in South Africa, something along the lines of Cape Town being the legislative capital, Pretoria the administrative capital and Bloemfotein the judicial capital.

What's the thinking behind splitting up the legislative, administrative and judicial functions about the country? What is the parliament doing in Cape Town? And where dose Tshwane come into all of this?
