Channel 9 news mentioned this tonight, they also said that "Little Italy", Park Rd Milton is expecting 20,000 people. Somehow I don't think 20,000 can fit at La Dolce Vita Cafe ??????????????

This time it will be ten times Better.............. Aus v Ita at "the road" as its known. There'll be fucking aussies and Italians fucking everywhere........................ MAGIC. Bring it on..................

^^ Parking wise, Southbank... action wise, Park Rd

^^I say, don't drive, take a train in and a cab out! You'll probably won't be able to park very close at either unless Southbank has not many people, in which case it would be better to go to Park Road anyway.

Thousands of Brisbane soccer fans packed Southbank and Milton's Park Rd precinct last night to watch Australia play Italy, in what tragically became the Socceroos' final game of the World Cup.
The Park Rd restaurant strip may be well known for its Italian connections, but last night, it was crowded with Australian fans hoping for an Aussie victory. Supporters draped in green and gold were crammed around televisions in bars and restaurants, while thousands more watched the game on a large screen on the street.

Even the fans were surprised by the crowd numbers. "I can’t believe there’s a turnout like this – it’s incredible!!" said one.

Others were so buoyed by the spirit of the event, they forgot who to cheer for. "Two brilliant teams playing brilliant football – who cares who wins!?" screamed one excited fan.

Other fans had taken a more rational approach to the evening's game. "Heart says Australia, head says Italy," said one. "I'm hoping the heart will prevail."

But it was not to be. Italy beat the Aussies one-nil after Socceroos defender Lucas Neill was penalised for tripping Fabio Grosso with just seconds remaining before extra time. It was a controversial penalty, with replays showing the Grosso appeared to trip over Neill.

Goalkeeper Mark Schwarzer was unable to save the penalty taken by Italian forward Francesco Totti.

Fans were devastated. "I'm so angry!" said one. "Honestly, can I tell you, it wasn't a very good end to the game. We were all over them the whole game and then at the end, it was daylight robbery, plain and simple. Robbery! We got robbed!"

Even the Italian fans were upset by the outcome. "Disappointing, very disappointing," said one. "It should have been a draw at full time, it should have been a penalty shootout. It’s a shame – Australia played well – it deserved to be nil-all."

Brisbane's own World Cup referee, 32-year-old Mark Shield, couldn't comment on the controversial referring decision that handed the game to the Italians.

But he did commiserate with the Australian fans. "To lose right in the dying seconds, people are going to be disappointed, but that's football and that's part of the attraction, I guess."

At Park Rd, within minutes of the crushing full-time whistle, most of the crowd had disappeared, leaving just a small group of Italian supporters to celebrate in the street.
