Hassoun June 25th, 2006, 06:43 PM WOW.thanx nareg. this is really gr8 job :) well done :)
I like the design so much, the best design of a hotel in beirut i guess.
Lebanese Cedar June 25th, 2006, 07:21 PM has this project been delayed ? i thougt they acutally started building it
They are currently doing the enabling works. Once that's done, they will start construction of the building itself.
Beiruti June 25th, 2006, 07:48 PM The more I look at this rending the more I like this design. It has a more classic look and it is something different for the area. I'm also sure it will look much nicer in reality once completed.
Beiruti October 30th, 2006, 09:23 AM Its almost November, has this building begun rising above ground?
nareg November 3rd, 2006, 06:30 PM UPDATE: Sorry, I didn't take any pics. Works continue but nothing appears from outside. It seems foundation works haven't completed yet.
ChaoticTranquility November 19th, 2006, 03:27 AM hey hey.
just wondering, has construction progressed on the Grand Hyatt at all?
i was surfing the Net and i found out the place will be designed by the famous designer Pierre-Yves Rochon. this means that the hotel will have this classically contemporary feel; no doubt it'll be amazing. i'm sure it will make quite the impact on the Beirut hotel scene.
kuwaiti_patriot
Nadini November 19th, 2006, 04:29 AM it will be completed in Mid 2009 according to the hotel's website so i think it will take some time before it will be completed
Hassoun May 7th, 2007, 01:38 AM ^^ Yes,Yesterday on Almustaqbal news paper, they mentioned openeng date Mid 2009.So,What's new?

john2890 June 8th, 2008, 02:30 AM anyone knows what the orange facade is made from? stone? brick? steel? its a weird color, i cant think of what material its made of :s
houssam June 8th, 2008, 10:27 AM ^^ maybe it's just for the rendering and not real ..but there's that brick color building next to it so i think it's not that hard .. maybe paint :dunno:
Nadini June 8th, 2008, 02:47 PM it looks like Red Stucco or just normal red bricks, like houssam said it might be the same material on the building next to it

Joseph D January 17th, 2009, 10:25 AM is it me or this is advancing very very slow, if even?
Have you seen the basement? It looks about 3 stories deep.
There is a lot more involved in constructing a building like this than you think. Also, with concrete, you have to wait for it to cure and gain sufficient strength before you can start working on the next floor. Depending on the concrete, this can take weeks.
Hassoun January 17th, 2009, 10:56 AM ^^ Agree , and once it reaches the 1st floor,it will rise so fast.
houssam January 18th, 2009, 09:17 PM i m not an expert but i still think it's going slow, i v seen other very big buildings reaching 1st flour in few months.... but again im not an expert :dunno:

Wow, r u a civil enginner man??
Nadini's pic is amazing!
Lebanese Cedar March 7th, 2009, 09:32 PM This hotel is not listed on the Hyatt website anymore. I wonder if it's been rebranded or put on hold?
AmeriLEB March 8th, 2009, 07:06 AM Recent Solidere quarterlies and Matta construction are all still referring to it as "Grand Hyatt" look at the link below and notice the 2009 date..
http://www.dargroup.com/pdf/projects/GrandHyatt.pdf
Lebanese Cedar March 8th, 2009, 08:42 AM ^^That Dar al-Handasah PDF is old. It says the project supervision is from 2006 to 2009, but there is no way this project will finish this year. So clearly that PDF is outdated.
I do hope it is still a Grand Hyatt. The Hyatt future hotels page doesn't list hotels opening beyond 2010, so that might be why they took it off the page for the time being, since it probably won't be ready before 2011/2012.
Hassoun March 8th, 2009, 12:38 PM ^^ the banners on the construction site say it clear that it's going to be a Grand Hyatt .
Beiruti March 8th, 2009, 05:12 PM ^^ Yes, but that can always change.
AmeriLEB March 8th, 2009, 07:29 PM If it changes they will take the signs off
Lebanese Cedar March 8th, 2009, 09:49 PM ^^Are you in Beirut right now AmeriLEB? I assume you've recently seen the signs still there.
AmeriLEB March 9th, 2009, 07:00 AM No but post 40 is from february and still has the signs
Abu 3Leish March 9th, 2009, 01:48 PM ^^ i was in downtown yesterday they HAVE NOT changed the signs ...so this means its still a Grand Hyatt...right?
AmeriLEB March 9th, 2009, 05:00 PM yes...Abu- what did you see construction wise? Are they reaching street level yet?
Hassoun March 9th, 2009, 05:02 PM Once it reaches the street level , it will rise so fast.
Lebanese Cedar March 9th, 2009, 07:49 PM This is reassuring then.
I think it's not listed on the Hyatt website anymore because its opening is planned for beyond 2010. I noticed they are only listing openings for 2009 and 2010.
Abu 3Leish March 10th, 2009, 01:13 AM yes...Abu- what did you see construction wise? Are they reaching street level yet?
construction has reached the floor below street level the next floor to be poured in will be the ground floor ..and call me ali for future reference
AmeriLEB April 19th, 2009, 06:50 PM Is it now above ground? ..anyone..ali?
Abu 3Leish April 19th, 2009, 07:46 PM ^^ the ground floor concrete pillars are being poured in now
flying-j April 30th, 2009, 08:48 PM I dont like it, I think Beirut deserves a 'grander' Grand Hyatt, plus the architecture is not all that at all, it kinda looks like some of the 90s glass buildings on the Dbayeh Highway.......
i know the market and location is different but u cant compare that to the Grand Hyatt , or even the older Hyatt Regency in Dubai or even Amman....
rezam May 1st, 2009, 11:43 AM i agree, the architecture is very dull, dont know why theyre doing this, especially in downtown!
Rabih May 2nd, 2009, 03:58 PM my 1st impression was similar to yours guys..
but then i thought, we're only basing our opinions on one render!
And as you said, this is the Grand Hyatt, so I'm optimistic that upon completion it's gonna be a surprise to all!
Beiruti May 2nd, 2009, 08:55 PM ^^At least it doesnt look like any buildings around it.
Hassoun May 2nd, 2009, 09:02 PM ^^ Agree, and i think it looks dull because the renderings are just cheap , it's going to look Fab. when it's Done !!! Trust me guys.
AmeriLEB August 10th, 2009, 07:38 PM Completion end 2011..info differs from first post but its at 443 rooms
Lebneni August 12th, 2009, 12:35 AM http://img512.imageshack.us/img512/5277/213s.jpg
Jayme August 14th, 2009, 08:21 AM This is like the slowest project ever... its been like 2 or more years.
Tabouleh August 15th, 2009, 06:16 AM they had stopped everything for a while I think or at least slowed downs the work pace to the maximum until they knew what would happen in Lebanon.
Hassoun September 5th, 2009, 04:19 AM Update:
31/08/2009 The Ballroom floor at the ground level of Grand Hyatt Hotel Project in BCD area - a post tension slab of 1050 m2 (39m x 27m) - is poured .
Concrete Volume poured = 250 m3. (55Mpa strength)
The structural system adopted is post tension beams + hollow core slabs th=33cm , system which was shifted from the initially designed steel structure slab. The beams with the same sections of initial designed beams (1.33m x 1.40m) , are casted and stressed.
MARTYR October 7th, 2009, 04:37 PM i passed by the project yesterday !!!
it was like a bee hive
tons of workers everywhere.....construction noise blaring all through out the neighborhood !!!!!!
u can clearly see 2 floors above ground now
all projects usually take alot of time to finish the underground levels, but as soon as they reach the ground level the tower sprints up in no time
so i hope the same happens here ;)
