Parwan to get 32 new schools

CHARIKAR: BRAC Bangladesh is set to build 32 schools worth $145, 4000 in the central Parwan province, officials say.
In this regard, an agreement was inked by Governor of Parwan Abdul Jabar Taqwa and officials of the BRAC Bangladesh in capital Charikar. The accord was signed after hundreds of students and their parents complained about scarcity of school buildings in the region. The construction of the schools will be completed before beginning of the next academic session.

Many students were compelled to leave schools due to non-professional teachers and threats by the militants. Governor Abdul Jabar Taqwa told 22 primary, five middle and five high schools would be constructed in Koh-e-Safi, Salang and Siagard Shikh-Ali districts.

He said $32,000 would be spent on each primary, $50,000 on middle and $100,000 on high schools. He said each school would have two-storey building and would have 14 class rooms.

"Previously, the NGOs was not consulting us about its projects and now it would discuss its plans with us," he said. Regional chief of BRAC Bangladesh Ashraf Zaman said the BRAC had funded all the budgets and had consulted projects with provincial officials. He said the schools would be completed before the next academic year. Zaman said they would also launch teacher training courses. Director of Education Department Samia Sadat said there were 118 schools in the province and dozens of them had no buildings.

He said there were 112,000 students in the province. He said middle schools would be upgraded in distant areas of the province.
