CAMP B/GEN Oscar M. Florendo, La Union -- Police Regional Office 1 (PRO) director Chief Supt. Franklin Jesus B. Bucayu reported that the crime volume in the past year greatly decreased even as he urged the public and stakeholders to support PRO1’s plans and programs to make the region totally peaceful.

Speaking during the celebration of PRO1 21st foundation anniversary, Bucayu explained the meaning of the occasion’s theme, “Police Regional Office 1: May Serbisyong Pagkukusa, Kaibigan ng Mamamayan at Tagapagtanggol ng Karapatan.”

An awarding program was also held preceded by a wreath-laying ceremony at the General Florendo Bust Circle and the groundbreaking for the PRO1 deep well project.

Honey is now one of the approved commodities of the Department of Agriculture (DA) and the National Economic Development Authority (NEDA) in the Ilocos Region.

This developed as the La Union National Apiculture Research, Training and Development Institute (NARTDI), mandated to educate and train would-be beekeepers, apiculturists, and other stakeholders, approved a position paper submitted by a technical working group created for such purpose.

The NARTDI approval came during the 2nd Advisory Board meeting of apiculture stakeholders at the Don Mariano Marcos Memorial State University in Bacnotan, La Union.

Chaired by Agriculture Secretary Proceso J. Alcala, represented by Bureau of Animal Industry (BAI) Director Efren C. Nuestro, the board considered resolutions on the Apiculture Stakeholder’s plan for 2011-2016, amendments to RA 9151 and the Regional Development Council, and for the inclusion of apiculture/beekeeping as one of the commodities of the DA/RDC.

i have seen the site. I like it.very detailed . So much information to see. There is high uv rays levels today,so beach goers and other people going for outdoor activities must apply sunblock :okay:

I guess there is a weather station at the san fernando airport,so i guess there must be a part of information in the site provided by the weather station,is my guess right?

The weather information is from my own weather station I installed at my house. It's a Davis Vantage Vue.

I would think that the San Fernando airport would have a weather station, too, but I haven't found the data publicly available anywhere.

Actually, I haven't found any accurate weather data for San Fernando anywhere, which is part of the reason I put up my own weather station. AccuWeather lists San Fernando, but I noticed it would sometimes say it was raining when it was sunny.

When I contacted them they basically said they didn't have a weather station here, and the information was only estimated based on weather stations in other areas. Admittedly this was several years ago, so I'm not sure if things have changed since then.

Well that's a great help. Well at least the machine would greatly give more accurate results rather than gathering weather data from nearby weather stations (Dagupan, Baguio) and approximate weather conditions in San Fernando, which aren't accurate

SAN FERNANDO CITY, La Union, Feb. 5 (PIA) – To improve performance of the police force, Undersecretary for peace and order Rico Puno of the Department of Interior and Local Government cited doable measures which the Philippine National Police personnel can adopt to provide better service to the people.

For firearms proficiency, Puno said that more than just conducting quarterly or periodic proficiency firing, there is a need to set official ‘hit ratios’ to reflect resemblance between what police personnel training in the firing range and what they actually experience on the street during an encounter.

“This is extremely important in terms of protecting the lives of citizens and police personnel and adhere to the use of force doctrine and related human rights standards,” Puno explained.

According to him, policy and decision-makers can find ways to provide personnel with adequate ‘training ammo’ so that they can upgrade their level of firearms proficiency and combat readiness.

The city of San Fernando, the capital of La Union province is a coastal trading area facing the West Philippine Sea (formerly South China Sea).

After a tiring walking tour arround the city, the sunset just gave me an instant feeling of healing to my aching traveling feet. The sky seemed to open and pour down magic to the sea.

San Fernando, La Union is the regional center of Ilocos and for a busy day from the bustles of the city, it is just a perfect time to be at the hill (Chinese Pagoda) where I am now to view the relaxing sunset.

I ordered mine from the U.S. and had it shipped here. I ordered it from scientificsales.com, so you can check there for their latest prices. There's the weather station, and then there's also the weatherlink computer interface.

USPS shipping to the Philippines was about $100, and customs took about P3,300 more. It took almost 3 months to arrive, spending more than 2 months in customs.

Expensive shipping cost (plus tax), but having a relative in the US maybe an advantage economically :D I also hope a high-tech weather device like that will be also available in the Philippines :D

THE ASIAN Development Bank (ADB) has approved $92 million worth of funding for government road development projects, according to the multilateral lender.

In an update e-mailed on Feb. 3, the Manila-based bank said its executive board on Dec. 15 green-lighted a $62-million loan to finance the Philippines’ Road Improvement and Institutional Development Project (RIIDP).

The project involves the maintenance and engineering design of about 1,300 kilometers of national roads and institutional capacity development for the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH).

The project includes the periodic maintenance of about 340 kilometers of nine national roads in Benguet-La Union, Zambales, Iloilo, Leyte, Negros Oriental, Misamis Oriental, North Cotabato, Agusan del Norte and Zamboanga del Norte-Misamis Occidental.

LA UNION – Tuluyang binawian ng buhay kagabi ang isang dwarf sperm whale na napadpad sa dalampasigan ng Barangay Casantaan, bayan ng Sto. Tomas, La Union.

Sa naging panayam ng Bombo Radyo La Union kay Henry Canlas ng Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR)–Regional Office 1, sinabi nito na nakita ng mga mangingisda roon ang naturang balyena na sugatan at nanghihina.

Tinatayang nasa pitong talampakan ang haba at may timbang na 300 kilo ang balyena.

Sinubukan umanong iligtas ng mga kawani ng BFAR ang dwarf sperm whale mula sa kapahamakan ngunit nabigo ang mga ito.

Hinala ni Canlas, maaaring namatay ang balyena dahil sa hindi pa malamang uri ng sakit o may nakain ito na ikinasama ng pakiramdam nito.

Ang mga sugat ng balyena ay natamo umano dahil sa pagkakapadpad nito sa mabuhangin at mabatong dalampasigan.

Kabilang ang dwarf sperm whale sa mga endangered species o uri ng hayop na paubos na ang lahi.

MANILA, Philippines- The activist fisherfolk alliance Pambansang Lakas ng Kilusang Mamamalakaya ng Pilipinas (Pamaakaya) on Tuesday said it was dismayed with the political snub it received from 12 congressmen in Ilocos Region regarding their complaint against black sand mining operations in Lingayen Gulf that encompasses the provinces of Pangasinan, La Union, Ilocos Sur and Ilocos Norte.

"We don't deserve this kind of cold treatment and outright snub from the congressmen of Pangasinan, La Union, Ilocos Sur and Ilocos Norte provinces. Nobody has the right to snub and take for granted the legitimate inquiry of the small fishermen in the region The letter of appeal against black sand mining was sent to their offices at the House of Representatives on the first week of December last year. It is now February 2012, but we have yet to receive any official response from the 12 congressmen. To the congressmen of Region 1, please break your silence, say something and address the issue of destructive magnetite mining in the region fair and square and in accordance with Ilocano people's interest," said Pamalakaya national chairperson Fernando Hicap in a press statement.

In their letter to congressmen, the Pamalakaya leaders said there are 15 magnetite mining applications in the onshore and offshore areas of San Juan (2, offshore), Bacnotan (2 offshore), Balaoan (2 offshore), Luna (1 offshore), Bangar (2, 1 offshore, 1 onshore), Pugo (1 onshore), Burgos (1 onshore), Santol (1 onshore) and Sudipen (3 onshore) in La Union province.

The barangay council of Parian Oeste, led by Imelda Coquia, was joined by Mayor Martin de Guzman III, MENRO Samuel Caluza, RSI Baby Adelfa Fontz, Regional Sanitary Engineer Ashley Antonio, Ms. Veniz Flores, and Dr. Bernardo Parado during the Awarding Ceremonies for the 2011 Barangay with Best Sanitation Practices at the Land Bank of the Philippines held last February 1.

In a message from the DOH Assistant Secretary Paulyn Jean Ubial, she have lauded the efforts of the 34 national finalists in demonstrating their commitment and efforts to the attainment of the national goal for water and sanitation. She further declared that there is a significant increase in sustainable safe water facilities especially in the rural areas while she continue to challenge other communities to follow on and likewise advocate a clean environment for better health improvement of the people.

City of San Fernando, La Union – As it further strengthens its job search assistance services, the Department of Labor and Employment-Regional Office 1 today announced the schedule of regionwide job fairs for the first semester.

DOLE 1 Regional Director Grace Y. Ursua said that in line with the celebration of the 162nd Foundation Anniversary of La Union, a Mega Job Fair will be held at the Father Burgos Gymnasium, Saint Louis College, City of San Fernando, La Union on February 21.

The upcoming job fair will bring together 25 local employers and 35 licensed recruitment agencies for overseas employment. The local employers invited to participate are: Addessa Corporation, Archway Multi-services Corporation, Bamcor, Banco San Juan, BHF Corporation, Digitel, EEI Corporation, Isonn Marketing, Marand Resort and Spa, Napintas Logistics Distribution, Inc., Pancake House, Inc./Chowking, Peer Marketing Motor Sales Corporation, Puyat Steel, Rang-ay Bank, Saver’s Print Marketing, Splash, United Coconut Planters Life, Universal Leaf Phils., Welform Trading Corporation, Expercs, Inc., Sitel Phils., Sutherland Global Services, The American Institute, TSPI Development Corporation, and Trust International Paper Corporation. Over 20 Region 1-based and 10 from outside the region LRAs were invited to offer to jobseekers their approved overseas job orders.

Other job fairs for this month will be held on the following dates and venues: 15 (tentative) – University of Northern Philippines, Vigan City (local employment); 22 (tentative) - Northwestern University, Laoag City (local employment); and 23 – Civic Center, Agoo, La Union (local and overseas).

For March, the schedules are as follows: 8 – Urdaneta City University (local employment); municipality of Bacnotan grounds, Bacnotan, La Union (local and overseas); 22 (tentative) – St. Paul, Divine Word College, Vigan City (local); and 23 – Narciso Ramos Gymnasium, Lingayen, Pangasinan.

Job fairs will also be organized in April on the following dates and venues: 16 (tentative) – PESO Office, Municipality of Manaoag, Pangasinan (local and overseas); 23 (tentative) PESO Office, Municipality of Bauang, La Union (local and overseas); 26 (tentative) – PESO Office, Municipal Hall, Infanta, Pangasinan (local and overseas).

“Jobseekers have to be ready with their application documents and grab the opportunities to find the job that fits them,” Ursua said, as she continued to reveal the schedules for May and June.

In May, jobseekers have to look out for these schedules: 1 – SM City Rosales; 4 – ABS-CBN grounds, CAP Bldg., Laoag City (local and overseas); and 5 – Civic Center, Agoo, La Union (local and overseas).

Finally, in June, the following job fairs will be held: 12 (tentative) – Narciso Ramos Gymnasium, Lingayen, Pangasinan; and 14 (tentative) – Municipality of Sudipen, La Union (local and overseas).

Ursua said the job fairs are made possible through the collaboration among the DOLE 1 and its family of agencies, local government units, PESOs, academe, private institutions, local employers and licensed recruitment agencies.

Finally, she reminded jobseekers to bring their application letter, resume’, 2” x 2” pictures, employment certificates, if any, training certificates and other proofs of credentials. asv

CAMP BGEN OSCAR M FLORENDO, Feb. 9 – The Police Regional Office 1 (PRO1) headed by Chief Superintendent Franklin Jesus B. Bucayu formally opened a three-day seminar-workshop on Basic Life Support with Mass Casualty Incident Management Training Wednesday (February 8) at the Concord Building here.

Spearheaded by the PNP Regional Health Service 1 (RHS1) under Superintendent Raymund Calano, the training enrolled a total of 61 participants, consisting of 50 PRO1 personnel and 11 civilians.

Of the police participants, 28 are from the 1st Regional Public Safety Battalion, 16 from the La Union Police Provincial Office, five from RHS1, and one from the Regional Headquarters.

The civilian participants include two personnel of the Poro Point Mining Corporation and nine employees of Holcim Corporation.

kanina nagpunta ako ng Agoo. Dinemolish yung 1st floor ng Museo. Naissuehan ng demolition permit last Feb 3, 2012. Mixed emotions ang mga tao. I even heard one saying "Apay ngay binagbag da?" And others are even saying "McDo!"

SAN FERNANDO CITY, La Union, Feb. 9 (PIA) -- An official of the Deparment of Environment and Natural Resources urged chain saw dealers in Region 1 to comply with R.A. 9175 known as the Chain Saw Act of 2002.

These include business engaged in the manufacture, importation, distribution and purchase of chain saws.

Zenaida Meniano, Forestry Chief of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources 1 (DENR R1), said that the said dealers must go to the DENR 1 or local government unit of their city or municipality to register and fill up forms in order to be authorized and be given permits by the agency to sell chain saws.

The act also seeks to regulate the ownership, possession, sale, transfer, importation and use of chain saws to prevent these dealers from being used in illegal logging or unauthorized clearing of forests.
