Click the 'Post Reply' button. You are directed to a new page with a text box in the middle where you can write your reply. Just above that text box is a button ...if you take the mouse over it (WITHOUT CLICKING) then it shows the words 'Insert Image'. Click that button and then put the path of the image into the user prompt which pops up.
Make sure the picture is available on the internet and is not on your hard disk.
You can use services like www.photobucket.com to upload pictures there and then link them to forums using the procedure I mentioned above.

Sikandar June 30th, 2006, 11:41 AM Man who cares about how many storeys it has, what's the point of building 80 story skycrapers in the middle of nowhere when you don't need them? They cheapen the land value and ruin the landscape unless they're complimented by other similar sized buildings.

Huma June 30th, 2006, 05:18 PM Its 15 storey as mentioned. But it may be a portion other than other floors for specific office or administration, as it is a common feature in many buildings. Moreover pic shows more than 20 floors. I still remember when Pervaz Elahi talked about this 6 months back it was mentioned 20- story in papers. Any how let it be realised because Pervez's record of forgetting things after Inaugration is very obvious. SZC EXPO and Bab-e-Pakistanand many other have been inaugrated long a go but what happened then?
pakboy July 1st, 2006, 12:32 AM this tower is not 15 storeys, it means 15 storeys are dedicated to office space, the tower is 25 storeys.

LAHORE: Chief Minister Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi is likely to inaugurate Pakistan’s first software technology park (STP) on Ferozpur Road today (Monday). The Rs 1.5 billion project by the provincial government will be completed in 12 months and is expected to create 10,000 jobs and generate economic activity of Rs 9 billion per year.
The 15-storeyed park is being constructed in front of Children Hospital on 300,000 square feet of land.
A Punjab Information Technology Board (PITB) official said the STP would offer a number of facilities including VSAT, LAN/WAN, video conferencing, a research and development laboratory, an IT incubation centre, a training institute, an IT university, a global database centre, banking, a health club and a modern security system. Consultants from Singapore will manage the project.
The official said the STP would serve companies from the IT and telecommunications sectors, especially cell centres, software application maintenance outsourcing companies, business outsourcing companies, Internet service providers, disaster recovery companies and telemedicine companies. “The province must have a proper IT park to attract foreign investment,” he said. “The park management will set up a one-window service to facilitate foreign investors.”
A Punjab IT Department official said the government had decided to lease out ready-to-use offices to IT and telecom companies at low rates to help them compete in the international market. Designers of the project have suggested reserving four of the park’s floors for small and medium companies, which were the backbone of Pakistan’s IT industry, he added.
PITB Chairman Rizwan Amin Sheikh refused to comment, but said all details would be announced on Monday.

IT ‘city’ on the cards
LAHORE: The Punjab government had earmarked 50-acres of land in Harbanspura for Phase II of the Software Technology Park (STP), sources told Daily Times on Sunday. The project would be an Information Technology (IT) city, they said, which would have IT towers, a hotel, apartment buildings, health clubs, hospitals and a school. They said the details of the project, such as its design, cost and timetable had not been finalised so far, but the Punjab government aims to feature state-of-the-art infrastructure in the IT city to attract foreign investment, boost Pakistan’s IT industry and create a large number of new jobs. staff report

Some old figures from “general secretary of PASHA, Khurram P. Rafiq ” interview
“Putting the total number of software houses in Pakistan around 300-350, including scores of individual free-lancers, Khurram said that there are no more than 25 which are sizeable which are engaged in exports.”

The calculated expected finish date of the project, with present pace, would be 11th April 2009 as against the target date of 28th December 2008. Hence the expected delay at the end of February 2008 is about three and a half months. The Contractor and consultants have been asked to provide the catch up program and methodology to put the project back on track.
The contractor has applied for extension of time due to unavoidable circumstances
(unfortunate death of Ms Bhutto and power shortage) faced during December 2007 and

So, where would you throw your garbage if you lived in Pakistan? Is there a local dump in each town? Because I haven't seen many. Does the government offer to pick-up garbage every week from every street (i.e. with garbage trucks)?
Government should've taken initiative to solve this problem, because this is one of the things that only the government can do (neither civilians nor private firms are able to do it).

Government should've taken initiative to solve this problem, because this is one of the things that only the government can do (neither civilians nor private firms are able to do it).
There are garbage dumps in each mohallah and are picked-up by trucks weekly or so. It takes a bit of an effort to dump your garbage at a single point instead of everywhere you feel like but in the end its the people who will benefit.
Take Islamabad where there are well planned and organized sanitation workers...do people follow the rules there? In Islamabad, a worker collects the garbage everyday so all it takes is to keep a wrapper with you when you eat something instead of throwing it out of your car window or on the pavement for those walking.
_BPS_ May 20th, 2008, 05:12 AM I don't think I have ever seen a local dump in each neighbourhood, ever in Pakistan, nor have I ever seen a 'garbage collector' or someone similar from the sanitation department.
KB May 20th, 2008, 02:41 PM ^^ there are though few in other cities but regular in Islamabad.
Anyway back on topic.
"During April 2008, the construction of car park block started and concreting of raft foundation completed along with concreting of two floors of main tower block. Hence, pace of construction activities remained satisfactory on structure work whereas activities on M&E works could not be started during the month. The works on HVAC duct line is expected to be started during first week of May 08."
They added floors 10 and 11 of the main tower and also began work(laid down raft foundation) on the 6 storey integrated carpark (for 325 vehicles and 640 bikes) and auditorium block.
The 17-storey main block structure is supposed to finish sometime in july and the overall project is supposed to finish by the end of jan 2009.

Red aRRow July 1st, 2008, 04:17 PM Ground floor is always considered ground...why would it be considered 1st?
Not everywhere. In Nordic countries the ground is 1st floor and then they go upwards. Quite logical.
How is it in USA?
QM July 1st, 2008, 04:56 PM and whats the use of word "story" will we call ground floor as "1st story", first floor as 2nd story and so on?
siamu maharaj July 1st, 2008, 10:13 PM In the US it's 1st, 2nd, ....
brightside. July 2nd, 2008, 12:53 AM In the US it's "Lobby" then 1st, 2nd, 3rd and so on.
Ground floor is called "lobby" on the elevator buttons.

brightside. July 2nd, 2008, 04:19 AM Chicago may be different because it has old skyscrapers. Ours are like this (the ground floor is always labelled with a star)

chicago has old skyscrapers? you need to get out of virginia more.
the whole point is floor count is a personal choice, it is not some super standard used around the world. and chicago is the birthplace of skyscrapers, this is where it all started. so if there were to be a standard, it would have come from Chicago.
brightside. July 2nd, 2008, 04:28 AM Chicago is the birth place of the skyscraper so of course it has a lot of old skyscrapers. It just dosen't make sense to label the ground floor as the 1st floor, that's all I'm saying.

being the birthplace of skyscrapers doesnt mean they stoped building after the first one. every year litrally half a dozen skyscrapers sprout up in addition to Chicago skyline so you really do need to get out of virginia more.
and it makes more sense to label the ground floor as the 1st floor because it quite litrally is FIRST FLOOR.
brightside. July 2nd, 2008, 04:44 AM Dude where did I say they don't build new buildings? Because they have that old system of labelling floors, they probably continue with that in the newer ones.
The ground floor is the ground floor. I think only floors above ground, ie. the floor of that level is not on the ground, should be labelled as the first floor. But like you have said, this is subjective so that's why the height of a building is way more important than the number of floors it has. Most of our threads are lacking a mention of height in the titles.

what system do you keep talking about?? there is no system. some building can have a ground floor and label the second floor as the second, and another building right next to it may not do so. it doesnt make any difference whatsoever.
how many stories do you think this house has?? if you think its one. you need to get your eyes checked.

brightside. July 2nd, 2008, 05:05 AM Stop being so aggressive man. Read this article:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Storey
Turns out most American buildings do number the ground floor as 1. However, all the 15 or so floor buildings in Arlington that I've been to have labelled the ground floor as "G" on the elevators.
QM July 2nd, 2008, 06:37 AM Two more terms are being used, "mezzanine floor" and "Upper Ground" look at this image
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Odd_lift_buttons.jpg
I have seen another sequence of elevator buttons in a building B2, B1, G1, G2 ....
no hard and fast rule.
siamu maharaj July 2nd, 2008, 07:10 AM The mezzanine floor is pretty common in Pakisatn. It's a floor between ground and 1st. It's usually shorter in height, and kind of a half-floor. It's not intended for offices. The elevators wouldn't go to mezzanine, you have to take the stairs. In the buildings where the elevators do stop at mezzanine, it's basically the 1st floor renamed to mezzanine.

it sounds that the building design in Pakistan is similar to majority of the building in U.S. but in the U.S. they end up combining the mezzanine floor with the first one, where the first floor has unusually tall ceiling, like a showroom, with regular height floors above.
That mezzanine floor plan you are talking about is probably what gives the impression of a building being small in size compared to the cars parked outside. i am not a big fan of that.
MasterMinds July 2nd, 2008, 10:36 AM lol... In China they neither have a ground floor nor a mezzanine. It starts with first floor and goes like 1, 2, 3...
Anyways.. back to the topic, what's the current status of that Lahore STP? Does anyone have some new pics?
QM July 2nd, 2008, 10:54 AM see post #173 these are latest pics, taken on this sunday.

chinese workers learned extremely quickly. i read a little about the market valuations and how the comparitive calculations are off because the buildings chinese construct are equal in quality to those that are built in the U.S. but the chinese do it at fraction of a price. it is amazing. i hope they can train our construction workers as well so we can continue this trend of going vertical.
KB July 2nd, 2008, 09:07 PM take a chill pill guys and lets get back on topic :)
pakboy July 5th, 2008, 12:46 AM its being done by a singapore company, jurong.

May be the mezzanine floor is used as a mechanical floor during construction, or to store other (maintenace) equipment? Many medium-density towers in North America use the 13th floor for this purpose (it is vacant anyways even after completion, due to its superstitious value).
QM July 7th, 2008, 07:08 AM ^^^^ I've heard the same about empire estate building.
QM July 10th, 2008, 10:16 AM They are on 17th now, will they stop after the current top floor?

INTRODUCTION
http://www.pitb.gov.pk/images/stp%20images/success_subpic.jpg
A Software Technology Park (STP) is the need of the hour as there is tremendous demand for Call Centers, Off-Shore software development, Business Process Outsourcing (BPO), IT Outsourcing (ITO), Application Maintenance Outsourcing (AMO), and Tele-Medicine opportunities. It would also kick start economic activity in Lahore in the construction as well as IT industry. The Government of Punjab has given approval to Punjab Information Technology Board (PITB) to plan and develop Software Technology Park (STP) at 346-B Ferozepur Road, Lahore.
This initiative will send a clear message to the IT industry in Pakistan as well as abroad that the Punjab Government is committed to the growth of IT in Punjab. It will also help share Government of the Punjab's IT vision with the IT industry and the general public. In addition, it would attract foreign investors to Punjab, which would provide boost to Pakistan’s overall economy. This initiative is in line with the vision of President of Pakistan, General Pervaiz Musharaf and Federal Government’s policy of promoting IT in Pakistan and providing the right business environment to foreign investors.
http://www.pitb.gov.pk/images/stp%20images/imagesfor-stp1.jpg
The STP will be a one-window operation to attract foreign direct investment (FDI) in Punjab. One-window operation would allow the foreign investors to start IT and IT-enabled businesses in an expeditious manner and it will provide boost to the local economy.
The software technology park would have world class infrastructure, layout and system of civic services. The planning, designing and development of the software park will reflect the latest trends, styles, specifications and management systems.
The STP would be equipped with state-of-the-art facilities like wireless LAN/WAN, VSAT, video conferencing, disaster recovery sites, R&D labs, Tele-Medicine, IT incubation center, training institutes, IT University, and a global data center. The STP would also offer supporting services such as travel & banking services, health club and security and safety systems. The idea is to have all IT and IT-enabled services under one roof.

QM July 11th, 2008, 11:13 AM But pace tower's location is not as good as this building. It is well exposed from penalty of angles but you may hardly notice the pace tower from 3 sides except the jail road. It has better design and will look awesome once completed.
