Dilaz89 June 30th, 2006, 04:58 PM iv stayed up until now to see this lol!
Cheers!!!
ryan79 June 30th, 2006, 05:15 PM Still can't believe our tallest going up is only 128m. Even though we have a lot of quality projects going on it would be nice to get 1 or 2 200m+. Come on Emu Brewery site.
BrizzyChris June 30th, 2006, 05:18 PM Cheers Cul!
I can't believe how small Skyline looks compared to Vision! That is incredible. So is the GC, that place just keeps going and going.
Citystyle June 30th, 2006, 08:18 PM Queensland Kills in this. If the economy stays strong we will get somthing big in the next 5 years or mabey a few large ones.
I mean look at Vision it's the tip of the ice for brizzy, it goes way deeper. GC is the home to appartment towers in aus and it wont change soon.
If you built a 400appartment tower in perth sales beggining in 2 months. You would not have a problem selling 50% of them in a month. Finbar are not just looking for foreign labour.
Bullswool July 1st, 2006, 06:49 AM Thanks for the update! Yes it would be nice to see Perth get some tall ones like vision.
Principes July 1st, 2006, 07:03 AM Cheers Cul.

Muse July 1st, 2006, 09:08 AM Thanks always Culwulla. Glad you've started to include projects that are soon to start - fills in some of the gaps in the diagrams lol.
Yeah, as Citystyle makes mention of, SEQ is really going for it.
Sydney & Melbourne very much need to get some new projects going, eh? Compared to the status diagrams of last year, both cities are now lacking somewhat. Melbourne has been spoilt with completions last year & this year, and Sydney is about to get @ least 3-4 new talls going either later this year or next year.
Perth is just about to burst @ the seams. Just look @ the scrapers lined up, hopefully soon or soon-ish to start construction. Similar to the GC, just not as tall of course lol. Nevertheless, just as exciting.
Adelaide is about to go for it too (not displayed in the diagram so much but in the SA sub-forum, it's really obvious).
Auckland has just finished a real beauty or 2, not inlcuded in the diagram of course. I just luuuurve Auckland's scrapers - many so different in style/s to those built in Oz cities (not that there is only one particular style in Oz cities of course).
A r c h i July 1st, 2006, 10:44 AM I'd say the Hilton (don't know the exact height but it'll be taller than Flinder's Wharf so roughly 70-75m {it sits on a fairly big podium}) part of the Melbourne Convention Centre development might start this year.
Maroon Grown July 1st, 2006, 11:10 AM it will be good to see 2x 200's in brissy when empire get approved (fingers crossed)
Maroon Grown July 1st, 2006, 11:13 AM just noticed that soul hasnt started yet. fuck me thats being waiting stagnant for ages. its been like 2 or more years since it was proposed. are they having trouble selling or is there public resistance due to the proximity to the beach. to be honest, i think it will have a negative impact on the beach at surfers
Muse July 1st, 2006, 01:27 PM I'd say the Hilton (don't know the exact height but it'll be taller than Flinder's Wharf so roughly 70-75m {it sits on a fairly big podium}) part of the Melbourne Convention Centre development might start this year. This comes under Hilton (http://www.emporis.com/en/wm/bu/?id=101887) on Emporis as well. Although only an elevation, it looks a similar shape to the one proposed for The Convention Centre yet it gives a Bourke Street address for it. What gives? http://web.gay.hr/smilies/nerd.gif

As far as the Soul thread indicates, apartments are selling reasonably well. Read Locke's post #443 Here (http://www.skyscrapercity.com/showthread.php?t=111329&page=23&pp=20) re: apartment sales, and that was posted a month ago. We'd hope a few more have been sold since then.
Locke July 1st, 2006, 03:31 PM Cool diagram Culwulla. Good to see the new additions!:)
SEQ looking healthy, no doubt the Brisbane diagram is set to fill out over coming years, you can't see it yet but with stuff in the pipeline in about 4-5 years it's going to be off the hook.
All we need now is some 400+ supertower on the GC or Brisbane and I'll be content, well no, I lie, then I'll want a 1000m one:P
Marky Mark July 2nd, 2006, 01:57 AM Work will commence 1st of August :)
Also The Antipodean , The Chancery and The Stanley are all very Close

Muse July 2nd, 2006, 03:11 AM I saw that BNZ render in the NZ sub-forum. Great corporate design! Loving the logo on the stonework and glasswork too.

I think Outrigger replaced the Docklands Hilton or it may be the site adjacent to Outrigger, regardless that one aint going ahead.
Roar/ July 2nd, 2006, 07:46 AM Fantastic Cul, this is the best Adelaide diagram I have seen we have 2!
Maybe you could inclued the aprovals over 60m in Adelaide too!
Th3-Co0L-P3rTh-Guy July 2nd, 2006, 08:39 AM great diagrams cul :okay: i think atm, saffron is the fastest gowing tower in perth to date:)
cheers

Brissy4me July 3rd, 2006, 04:24 AM Cheers for the diagrams cul, can't wait until Empire and 480 & 549 Queen St are approved and U/C for Brisbane. Get well soon.
Dilaz89 July 3rd, 2006, 03:29 PM The chatswood project is amazing! SHould be our largest suburban tower for years to come!
Aussie Bhoy July 3rd, 2006, 05:25 PM Damn, Chatswood looks like a stand-alone city!
Ipggi July 4th, 2006, 10:32 AM Damn, Chatswood looks like a stand-alone city!
In many ways it is. It has it's own pediestrian mall, three shopping centres, 2 x +150m towers UC, 4 current +90m towers, the HQ for Vodafone Australia as well as offices for IBM, Nortel, NEC and in 2008 it will have a new multi-lined rail station.
dallas July 4th, 2006, 12:58 PM I think having places like Chatswood, Bondi Junction, North Sydney, Parramatta, North Ryde etc is what helps gives Sydney more of a big city and international feel than other cities in Australia. Helps make Sydney look like a place of business instead of just a collection of never ending suburbs with a central core.

A la Melbourne!! :(
dallas July 6th, 2006, 03:03 PM A la Melbourne!! :(
And everywhere else!
The thing I think that will keep Melbourne from developing a secondary market like Parramatta or Chatswood is the fact that there is so much room when compared to Sydney; even in the CBD / near CBD, there is are still a lot of places to put up tall buildings, especially when you consider Docklands is only just coming on stream. There is of course St Kilda RD and Kingsway which is a lovely apartment and office precinct (I'm a big fan of the view from St Kilda or Brighton piers), which gives Melbourne a beautiful lead in skyline from the south.
One thing I think would be nice is to see the central part of the city, namely along or around Swanston street fill in with tall buildings. I think it would help to give Melbourne a big city feel, and would end that dissected east and west look that it has when viewed from the south or the north.
SoulvisionQ1 July 6th, 2006, 04:07 PM That is what Brisbane is trying to do in the SEQ regional footprint... Indroopilly is already doubling its size with a new civic pedestrian mall, also the Indro train station is being renovated and the height limit is being raised :) A few other urban villages are Chermside, Carindale, Milton, Northshore/Hamilton Harbour and Springfield...
Its all a part of the SEQ Smart Growth Strategy...

I know what you're saying but I actually like the 'swanston street gulf' as it leads to two focal points in Melbourne. Spring St end and the growing west end (+ Southbank). I am not a fan of density just for the sake of having a big city feel.
I am actually surprised no one has tried to build anything taller than 60-70m on Swanston street. Any reason in particular for this?
Ipggi July 7th, 2006, 03:58 AM Isn't there a 40m general height limit?

Another thing to take into account is that the geographic heart of Sydney is about 25km west of the CBD. The CBD is shoved all the way over in the east and is a real bastard to get to because its sorrounded by water on 2 sides !
Melboourne's CBD is much more centrally located and therefore accessible to people, hence there is a lesser need for secondary CBD's to sprout up.
Then again, Sydney has a bucket load of office space so it was inevitable that secondary CBD's would eventuate.
shrewd.user July 7th, 2006, 02:20 PM good work as usual cul, checking your diagrams out has cemented itself as a monthly ritual :)
perhaps we should try to attract some dedicated darwin forumers...

That's very true, I had forgotten about that.
Thinking about it, I know what Melburnian means with the liking the gulf between the west and east ends, it does make for two distinctive skylines I guess. If they both continue to build up in density and height, I guess you could end up with two different looking cities in effect, when viewed from a distance. That would be quite cool, and unique if that was to happen.
Melburnian, I was thinking more about having like a wave effect with tall buildings in the centre and at the east and west ends, with in between those three parts buildings of smaller size. I can visualize it, but probably not describing it to well.
I wonder how the skyline of Melbourne would look now if the original proposal for Melbourne central had gone ahead......I think it was proposed initially as a 107 storey tower.
