SkyBridge August 17th, 2008, 09:32 AM Fantastic highrise, almost finished now - can't wait!!
pescarush August 17th, 2008, 11:06 AM it suites perfect in the Rotterdam's skyline! nice contrast with the other buildings, perfect combination between structure and architecture! can't wait to see it finished!
pescarush August 17th, 2008, 11:10 PM it's u're opinion. love it or hate it.
LAYZIEDOGG August 18th, 2008, 12:44 AM i dont understand how anyone can find this building anything but ugly.
its a horrible shape with retarded shaped twizzlers running up the sides.
it looks like a horrible piece of 60s furniture on steroids.
Well a lot of people do find it a nice building, so not everybody has your opinion. It's something different yes, better then all those grey boxes you see in every big city. We could use some colour in my opinion.

I agree. ya know Baltimore reminds me of Rotterdam - both are harbor cities and have colorful and quirky skylines
SkyBridge August 18th, 2008, 10:56 AM ^ And Baltimore-Rotterdam have a city partnership in case you didn't know! :)
eyrie August 18th, 2008, 11:08 AM this is really starting to look brilliant.a nice splash of colour for Rotterdam
steppenwolf August 18th, 2008, 03:28 PM oh my god.
this is the ugliest building ive ever seen in my life. what are they thinking building this junk? what an eyesore.
HOW can you seriously say that?! Am i seeing something completely different when I look at this to you? Becasue what I see is an elegant tower with a beautiful sinuous, organic pattern of soaring verticality, great bold and tasteful colours that fits into its skyline context very well in proportion, in how its colours interact with the colours of its neighbours. I love this building, I think its really exciting without being so outrageous and 'of its time' that it will go out of date - I dont think it will.
Rutger1991 August 18th, 2008, 06:23 PM Couldn't agree with you more steppenwolf!!!! ^^

wonderfull speaking!:)
he just doesn't know what to see when looking at this building.
Eric Offereins August 18th, 2008, 10:21 PM True, just look at my 3rd picture to see how much color it adds to the skyline. The fact that the vertical lines are not straight is only an extra to its beauty. :)
Skyline_FFM August 20th, 2008, 11:49 AM I lke the low-rise cubic part. The highrise tower is buttugly! :puke:

OMH October 4th, 2008, 03:25 AM Nice to see this tower almost finished, since it's a really classy addition to Rotterdam's skyline (Europe's best residential highrise skyline).
The design isn't spectacular but still very classy IMO, i like the dutch residential architecture a lot, and IMO this tower is one of the best examples of it, the vertical red strips make a nice contrast to the glass facade, and also to the other highrises.

pescarush November 1st, 2008, 06:04 PM it s a beauty already!
what about the clading part from the middle of the lowrise, i do not see any windows...is there a multilevel parking space?
Skyscrapercitizen November 1st, 2008, 10:45 PM ^^
Yes that part is parking, in Rotterdam we have to deal with at least 1,5 parkings for every apartment, that is a huge designproblem in many big projects. But there is no parking on the ground floor.

goschio December 7th, 2008, 05:08 AM Turned out to be quite nice. But I am really surprised that it is possible to sell highrise apartments without balcony in the Netherlands. That would be impossible in Germany.

You can see them in the tower in my last pic.

baoerji9527 December 9th, 2008, 02:48 PM How to buy UGG sheepskin boots?Everyone who wear the UGG sheepskin boots will get many benefits. UGG boots are made to be worn barefoot as they will form to your feet and provide natural arch support. When buying a pair of sheepskin boots or ugg boots (premier brand in luxury and comfort footwear), there are many things to look for:First of all, you must make sure your sheepskin boots are actually made out of 100% authentic sheep skin. Some manufacturers use cheap substitutes such as gluing synthetic wool on to cow hide. These imitation sheepskin boots come at a cheaper price tag, but unfortunately the less expensive alternatives may cause skin irritations, encourage bacteria growth, wear down, tear quickly and noticeably less comfortable. http://www.shoppingugg.com When buying sheepskin boots, make sure they are manufactured from quality Australian Merino wool. Australian Merino sheepskin boots are considered the best material for making sheepskin boots and it also ensures that you will be able to use them for many years. Authentic wool also allows your feet to breathe and help reduce feet sweating. Merino sheep skin is by and large thicker and much more durable than other kinds of sheep skin, which helps your boots keep their shape as well as resist wear and tear. By purchasing sheepskin boots made from merino wool and sheep skin, you will be guaranteed that not only will they be the most comfortable pair of sheepskin boots you'll ever own, but they will also last for a long time to come. I have included some links if you would like to learn more about sheepskin boots or youwant to know where can buy some UGG Boots - Australia markets the premier brand in luxury and comfort. Their many products fit into your every day life offering you products that are fashionable, comfortable, and attainable.Ugg Boots have been made and worn in Australia/China for over 50 years and "Ugg" is not associated with any brand or style of sheepskin boot. cjav December 11th, 2008, 03:33 PM Well the amount of useless post that have no other content then "nice pictures' etc is just to much. It is bordering spam. You don't have to keep bumping threads with useless content. And considering many people find it annoying and tell you to stop posting should be a hint.
Feel free to post as much as you want in the discussion sections of the forum, but this is for updates. Please from now on only post occasionally or when you have an update.

Only having an other oppinion doesn't automatically means that I have a bad taste. I don't like this thin red displaced cladding looking as if this buiding is captured by straws - because I have just "another" taste. ;)
Arrrgh April 14th, 2009, 01:41 PM No, you have a bad taste. Capice? ;)
Ji-Ja-Jot April 14th, 2009, 02:11 PM No. My taste is to good to admire the ugly. Capice?
Arrrgh April 14th, 2009, 02:34 PM Can you explain what you think is so ugly about this?
Ji-Ja-Jot April 14th, 2009, 03:52 PM sure just for you :)
There is actually one thing on this tower, waht I like. -> It looks higher, than it is. But thats all I like...
What I don't like is the complete appereance, because
1970 was long ago. And obvios we have a 1970 box here. Yes, boxes are often really boring. But you can pimp boxes up with claddings or the material, which is used and it's possible to get a real interesting and beautiful building. The solution taken in this case, to pimp the style of this tower is unfortunate. The thin red dissorted lines looks as if they wedge the tower like the three killing climbing plants in the rainforest and addionally they are red (crying for attention?) like veins or like blood, so my second association is a bleeding tower.
And I compare it to other projects. Not in the word but in Rotterdam and there are some really great project on the running like the maastower, so the red apple looks even worse to me.
Always when I look at this pictures I see the architect on his desk, planning
"I good a damn box. Boxes are out. So I make a red cladding, red is good, red is color wich attracts attention (is begging for attention would be the better word) and to make it more interesting the cladding will be a bit dissorted - that's design, baby!"
Okay, I don't know him so it's unfair to think so. But unfortunatly I do.
A boring box, crying for attention by a wrong way. It makes the tower ugly and uninspired as well as looking like missing the target for me.
But, call it "bad taste". I don't care ;)
Skyscrapercitizen April 14th, 2009, 05:31 PM ^^
It seems that you don't like it because you think you shouldn't like it (rationally). That explains al lot to me.
Besides that your analysis of the architect is wrong. Here the website for you: http://www.kcap.eu/
jhalsey April 14th, 2009, 07:41 PM There is hard work gone into it by architects. I still don't like it very much.
Arrrgh April 14th, 2009, 10:26 PM blablaba
But, call it "bad taste". I don't care ;)
You've got a point there, but the simplicity of its shape is one of the features I like about this tower.
Eric Offereins April 15th, 2009, 12:22 PM I am not sure if the lines pattern would have worked on an oval or circular shaped tower. I doubt it.
it sure does on a flat surface, the more how closer you get.
Skyscrapercitizen April 15th, 2009, 10:46 PM Only having an other oppinion doesn't automatically means that I have a bad taste. I don't like this thin red displaced cladding looking as if this buiding is captured by straws - because I have just "another" taste. ;)
By the way, the fact that I think you have bad taste is just another opinion as well, based on the fact that almost everyone in the city I know likes it a lot, also represented in the speed of selling the apartments.
steppenwolf April 15th, 2009, 11:54 PM Well I have exceptionally good taste... probably the best taste of anyone here, and I think its a great tower. Slim, elegant, playful, tasteful, works well on the skyline context. I like it very much. I cant tell how well it works close up, but usually architecture in this partof the world is miles ahead of everywhere else in terms of quality detailing.
Ji-Ja-Jot April 16th, 2009, 10:03 AM Well I have exceptionally good taste...
Such oppinions are always subjective. My oppnion is subjective, too ;) But I think to deal with this subject is too much Off-Topic and you are getting bored by my perpetual nagging. So I leave here, because I don't wat to spoil your party :)

Chrisel June 12th, 2009, 01:04 AM KCAP completes residential high rise development The Red Apple
http://www.worldarchitecturenews.com (http://www.worldarchitecturenews.com/index.php?fuseaction=wanappln.projectview&upload_id=11768)
Set in the prime location on Wijnhaven Island, located between Rotterdam’s city centre and the river Maas and with water on three sides, The Red Apple is a nod towards the shipping industry of Rotterdam. Its design presents the vision of stacking containers, a void creating an assimilation of movement from the upper to the lower.
The 124 m high design by KCAP Architects&Planners encompasses 231 apartments, offices, retail and restaurants on a total gross floor area of 35.000 m2
Wijnhaven Island is being redeveloped using a dynamic transformation model, which provides development guidelines that ensure a balance between new and existing construction as well as the preservation of fine views and sufficient incidence of daylight throughout the area. "By applying this model, its redevelopment substantially increases the area’s capacity and improves the residential and environmental quality while preserving important qualities of the existing situation," states KCAP architect Han van den Born.
In the upper block building, apartments of various sizes are grouped around a central atrium. Thanks to large apertures in the facade, this atrium also offers a stunning vista across the city. The southwest corner of the site is occupied by a slender apartment tower with a spacious glazed lobby as ground-floor entrance and live/work loft spaces on top. The levels 8 through to 40 contain apartments of various sizes. All apartments of the two volumes are diagonally oriented and offer a maximum of transparency via floor-to-ceiling glass and provide extraordinary views.
The Red Apple is accentuated in Rotterdam’s skyline by its ‘red striped’ façade pattern. The tower reveals the red bands as vertical lines which decrease in width towards the top to support its slender appearance. The block building is defined by horizontal layers. The red bands are formed by aluminium panels which gain their colour through anodizing without any other colour treatment. In the tower, they contain the load bearing structure of the façade and adapt in width to the increasing load towards street level.
The lifestyle concept and interior have been developed in cooperation with Jan des Bouvrie.
