I finally went on the Tyne "Quay to Sea" tour down the river and back, and apart from lots of pics of the various cranes en route, I snapped a pic of this strange looking orange "sculpture" attached. Anyone know what this is supposed to be, who made it and I could always ask (after seeing the half submerged cars in the river) how much it cost?

If anyone wants to know how the tour went, it was pretty good, apart having my face half burnt off by the searing heat. The running commentary was good on the history of the river, and the cranes (which was my reason for going) were impressive! From what I hear, even Moscow and Murmansk in Russia have similar trips which suits me just fine :)

Sited at the mouth of the Royal Quays development in North Tyneside, Mark di Suvero's 'Tyne Anew' revolves gently in the wind and seems to conduct and point to the evolving industrial riverside background.

Created as part of Art on the Riverside, the largest programme of public art in the UK, funded by £3.5 million National Lottery grant and £2.7 million from the public and private sectors taking place along the banks of the Rivers Tyne and Wear. Established in 1995 this programme, when complete, will consist of a vast range of over 100 artworks and design features created by both local and internationally renowned artists.

Ahhhhh now it makes more sense....

Although that day there was no wind, typically it being a searing 24C heat

COuld have cooked bacon & eggs on the deck of the boat! I'm a cold weather person :( lol.

THanks for clearing that up :)
