hiya.
i was checking out the Ibis Hotels website and found this little tidbit:
Ibis Koweit City : December 2007
this place should be completed soon, with the opening by the end of the year. they have a second new hotel under construction in Sharq (opening in 2008) behind the future site of the Al Hamra Tower.
just to clarify: Ibis Hotels are two- or three-star hotels that are select service. that is, the rooms are clean, small and simple, giving you everything you need but no more, so don't expect turndown service or a chocolate on your pillow at night. they're affordable and well-placed, and i'm glad Kuwait's finally entering the low- and mid-end hotel market.

thanks for the update, Skouli.
off topic - does anyone have any clue what the project behind the Ibis is? from its information board, it's due to be a hotel and the steel in its construction is already above grade, yet there are no renderings or names. ideas?

I heard it's cars parking
ChaoticTranquility
August 20th, 2007, 12:38 AM
what.
a parking lot on PRIME seafront real estate? i sincerely hope that's not true. i mean, the board says "Central International Company for Hotels" and has a few other company names on it, so it's got to be something else. if the parking lot is what's gonna come up on that lot, it'll be solid proof that Kuwait's city planners are absolute nimrods. common sense: why not put the Ibis on the seafront and the parking lot in back? gah. forget it, arguing about this is only going to bother me and a lot of others.
thanks, Faisal.

Omniya name of the hotel or commercial complex or what ??
ChaoticTranquility
November 1st, 2007, 12:47 PM
the project entails a shopping mall, called the Omniya Centre, and the three-star Ibis Salmiya on top of it.
i drove by the tower today, and they removed the yellow plastic wrapping on the sign in the front. they've got a little bit ahead of them, but the Ibis is looking really good. i also called the hotel's preopening office here, and they said that they're looking at a January-February 2008 opening.
kuwaiti_patriot
(by the way - it seems the new building under construction on the other side of the Ibis is going to block its sea view as it goes up; what a shame. leave it to Kuwait's smashing urban planning.)

This is the whole concept behind an Ibis hotel, it is to give an affordable option. Any major city should have one. In France, Ibis hotels are two star hotels.
In Kuwait it is known that hotels are relatively quite expensive so this will be a welcomed change for a lot of visitors. I personally would not stay in an Ibis hotel but I completely support it.

hi, xotica.
the Ibis is supposed to be a three-star hotel, as Ibis hotels are categorized as two- and three-star properties, with Novotels as four-star, Pullmans five, and Sofitel as five-star-deluxe. seems a bit strange though because this Ibis is probably the best one i've seen.
as for the Ibis Salmiya, interior works are nearing completion. they're turning on all the interior and exterior lights and signs, and they're presently furnishing the lobby. i think they're still looking for staff since i saw a few job openings on the Internet. you can always call their pre-opening office, or visit them if you can. they're at the Shuwaikh Free Trade Zone near the Ministry of Higher Education.
Ibis Salmiya is opening in early 2008, by the way. [probably by February or March.]
hope this helped.

Hi Patriot,
Thanks a lot for this information. I was calling them many times but no answer at all. I think that the pre-opening bureau is no more active. However I will send them an e_mail in order to know further information about the work that I applied for!
