Are there palm trees all over the Houston area or are they just in certain places?

All over the area
Thats neat, for some reason I always thought of Houston as not having very many palms.

i'm not sure but i don't think Houston always had palms. But now you see them all over the city nestled in different neighborhoods and off freeways. Just wish the ones off Gulf Freeway would hurry up ang get some height to them.

Great shots, Houston Texas..the Montrose area shots bring back good memories of childhood. My grandparents had one of those large old turn-of-the-century rambling homes that used to line the streets off Montrose and Fairview. The house is now torn down as has happened to many others but it was a great place to grow up back in the 70s.

Houston's inner loop neighborhoods have some pretty established and mature palm trees. During the boom of housing in 30's and 40's in the inner loop with tradtional brick two stories and bungalows, I am pretty sure most of these older palm trees were placed in the neighborhoods. I do not know the exact name of this type of palm tree in the pic below but they are connected all through Western Third Ward, through the Montrose and up to the Heights. Alot are located in the East End also.

A lot of medians and esplanades in the Third Ward have them also.

I've heard that a lot of gays and lesbians live in the Montrose area. Is that true?

^^^ yeah, one can say that this is the gay neighborhood of Houston

It could be compared to the Ashbury Heights district in San Francisco, not quite the Castro... Typically the "Gay Area" of town is thought to be at the intersection of Montrose Blvd & Westheimer. But, alot of Gay Clubs and other Gay things are also located in The Galleria Area, The Heights, and all over the metro.

Montrose is def. a colorful neighborhood, but It is not confined to "Homosexual". West Fest was in Montrose, along with other artsy events. Alot of awesome clothing stores, Tatoo & piercing parlors, clubs & bars are in Montrose.
