Sedert mijn eerste bezoek 10 jaar geleden ben ik verliefd geworden op deze stad die ik later nog 2 maal heb bezocht én van plan ben om nog eens te bezoeken.

De Klauw July 10th, 2006, 07:29 PM Ik weet niet wat je er zo mooi aan vind. Van iedere Noord-Amerikaanse stad kunnen vergelijkbare foto's getroken worden. Alleen de Vieux-Port vind ik wel karakter hebben. Benonie July 10th, 2006, 07:42 PM Akkoord met Klauw. Fijne foto's, maar de stad zelf vind ik ook niet zo bijzonder. Ordinaire hoogbouw, moet ik zeggen. Nogal slordig neergepoot allemaal. Misschien kunnen andere foto's van het oude centrum ons meer bekoren. Alle mooie herinneringen komen weer bovendrijven. Ik dacht er vroeger trouwens net zo over als De Klauw en Benonie, maar toen ik afgelopen April in Montréal was, viel het me ontzettend mee. Deels lelijk, deels prachtig mooi, met een mooi ligging aan de rivier, veel hoge bruggen, mooie panorama's en erg veel te doen! Ik moet mijn mening over die stad toch enigzins herzien. Toch wel een schitterende combinatie van oude en nieuwe architectuur, water en groen. Die vliegt alleen tussen april en oktober van Brussel naar Montreal, dus boeken voor volgend jaar kan nog niet. En volgend jaar kunnen de prijzen natuurlijk al wat opgelopen zijn.... Het is altijd uiterst interessant om in januari hun site te bekijken én te boeken aan zeer voordelige tarieven met hun 'book & pay' systeem. Ik ben er reeds drie keer geweest met drie verschillende maatschappijen en vertrokken uit drie verschillende luchthavens, ik doe dit om te zien welke maatschappij me het voordeligst uitkomt. StefVDD, ik wist niet dat ge daar zo van onder de indruk zijt? ;) Ik heb er al enkele keren een tijdje gelogeerd bij vrienden, zowel in de zomer als in de winter. 's Winters kun je ijsschaatsen op de St Laurent in de oude haven, met de stad op de achtergrond: heel indrukwekkend. 's Zomers is de periode rond het jazzfestival het drukst, maar er is van eind juni (QC-feestdag) tot een stuk in augustus genoeg te doen en te zien. Wat de prijzen betreft heeft StefVDD een goeie lead gevonden: bij Connections zie je promo's naar Montréal om de 3-4 maanden terugkomen, tot voor een paar jaar voor +/- 350 EUR, nu voor 400 - 450 EUR taksen inbegrepen. Ik heb al elke keer met Air France gevlogen, ook een paar keer geluk gehad met de prijzen, maar zelfs 's winters niet meer dan 550 EUR betaald. Voordeel is dan dat je Air France-TGV bij in de prijs zit, en als de TGV zou vertraagd zijn zet Air France je zo op de volgende vlucht. Laatste leuk extraatje is dat ze vanaf 2009-2010 deze vluchten met de A380 zouden uitvoeren. Andere goeie ticketwebsites die ik soms gebruik zijn Vliegwinkel.nl en Flug.idealo.de. Voor de mensen die de westkust van Canada opzoeken (Vancouver, ongeëvenaard) ook een tip: je kunt vaak beter naar net over de grens in de VS vliegen en dan rijden of bus/trein nemen. Stukken goedkoper. mvg JJN Benonie August 5th, 2008, 03:37 PM Ja, connections kende ik al. Ik het reeds een paar keer via hen geboekt, o.a. mijn tickets naar Damascus. Ook Air Transat ken ik via hun site. Maar er zitten ook soms enkele hiaten en fouten in hun programma. Ook dat heb ik opgemerkt (en hen doorgegeven) toen ik een vlucht naar Damasus of Aleppo zocht. De module berekende wel een prijs van een onbestaande rechtstreekse vlucht Brussel-Damascus met Syrian Arab Airlines, maar zag de vluchten van Austrian Air over het hoofd. Nu is het nog te vroeg om Montreal te boeken voor volgend jaar augustus, maar van zodra we terug zijn uit Budapest ga ik met onverdroten ijver aan de slag. Hopelijk blijft het enigzins betaalbaar, want ik moet dus telkens 3 tickets kopen, en dat zal voor verre bestemmingen in de toekomst vrij duur worden. Absoluut, het is een westerse stad maar toch is er een pak minder stress dan hier. In de herfst is het erg mooi, maar je moet goed mikken: begin oktober is het meestal nog heel mooi (en beter dan hier), eind oktober kun je al een koudeprikje hebben... De winter is eigenlijk ook een aanrader, hoor: het is meestal zonniger dan hier, maar wanneer het zonnig is is het meestal ook vrij koud. Toch moet je die koude zéker niet overdrijven: ten eerste is het 'droge' koude, ten tweede is er de ondergrondse stad in het centrum en tenslotte is het nu ook weer niet zo koud: het koudst dat ik het heb gehad in MTL was -23 's nachts, -14 overdag, maar meestal is het overdag tussen -10 en 0 of zelfs net iets meer, perfect draaglijk. Extra leuk om daarna terug hierheen te komen bij +5: voelt als de lente ;) ...was ik 30 jaar jonger dan wist ik wel waarheen Ik heb er ook nog aan gedacht, en het zou nog altijd kunnen ;) Hun puntensysteem bevoordeelt mensen die tegelijk perfect Engelstalig en Franstalig zijn. mvg JJN De Snor August 5th, 2008, 10:12 PM @ JayBeeke , die site bekijk ik zeker. Kijk wat mij enorm opvalt is de openheid van de lokale besturen. Sedert jaren bestook ik hun met vragen over van alles en nog wat en zonder enig probleem wordt alles me opgestuurd. Alleen aan hun oriflammes kan ik niet geraken verdorie. Voor architectuurliefhebbers is het CCN een verademing. Wat ze daar allemaal liggen hebben... De omgeving is ook te pruimen alleen met OV kom je er niet. In Chambly heb ik heerlijk genoten van het kanaaltje en het oude fort. Het Canal de Lachine is een trip in de tijd én Sainte-Anne met zijn stokoude dorpsplein en molen is prachtig. Het spoormuseum in Delson was uitzonderlijk gesloten toen ik er kwam. Langs Le Montagne vindt je nog de ruines van die vorige kabelbaan... Benonie September 9th, 2008, 07:19 PM Zucht... Air transat heeft haar prijzen voor het seizoen april-oktober 2009 bekendgemaakt...en die zijn fors gestegen. Wie in juli en augustus heen en terug naar Montreal wil, telt daarvoor een dikke 800 euro neer. Voor mijn hele gezin komt het op zo'n 2500 euro, kinderkorting voor de kleine meegerekend. Ook American Airlines vraagt ongeveer hetzelfde. Buiten het hoogseizoen is iets goedkoper, maar met een schoolgaand kind onmogelijk. En daar mijn vriendin half-time werkt en ook ons huis ook volgend jaar nog in volle renovatie zal zijn, zullen we onze Canada-droom noodgedwongen moeten uitstellen. Voor wie van de interessante last-minutes kan genieten blijft het allemaal bereikbaar, maar wij gaan nu ook weer niet een deel van onze reserves opsouperen voor 3 weekjes Cananda. Maar niet getreurd, er blijken nog heel wat leuke Europese bestemmingen te bereizen. Al heb ik gemerkt dat ook hier de prijzen drastich gestegen zijn. Allemaal begrijpelijk natuurlijk. Vliegtuigmaatschappijen willen niet blijven met verlies draaien en we hebben al te lang veel te goedkoop gevlogen. De Snor September 9th, 2008, 08:02 PM € 800 is verduveld veel geld maar jij zit gebonden met de vakanties die ontegensprekelijk een groot nadeel is. :( Ik kan je alleen aanraden te wachten tot de voorjaarskortingen bij Connections in januari 2009. Dat de vliegtuigmaatschappijen niet langer met verlies willen blijven is best te begrijpen. In 2003 ben ik naar ginds gevlogen met KLM vanuit Schiphol...er waren 20 passagiers aan boord en we vlogen met ticketten van € 300 heen én terug! Benonie September 9th, 2008, 09:38 PM Tja, wij zijn in 1997 heen en terug naar Mexico-City gevlogen voor welgeteld 10.000 BEF, nu 250 euro... Die maatschappij (CityBird) is inmiddels wel over kop gegaan.... ;) Nu, de interessante last-minutes zijn in de vakantieperiodes ook al heel beperkt beschikbaar, heb ik inmiddels geleerd. Of het nu gaat om Allerheiligen, Kerst of Pasen, de tickets gaan gewoon drastisch de hoogte in, last minutes of niet. Let maar eens op de data en prijzen bij Connections. Hier en daar nog een zetel of 2 op dinsdag of woensdag. Niet echt interessant als je met drie reist en vakantie moet nemen van zaterdag tot zaterdag....
