I spent the July 4th afternoon at my sister's boyfriend's uncles house in Maryland. Their house is about 6 or 7 miles south of Elkton, and about 2 or 3 miles south of the hamlet of Elkmore. The house is almost exactly on the other side of the Elk River from where the Chesapeake and Delaware Canal ends. The Elk River is pretty wide at this part of Cecil County, and is about halfway down from Elkton to Turkey Point and the Chesapeake Bay.

Looking east while crossing Little Elk Creek. At the left of the picture is Elk Landing, where the British landed in 1777 to start their march to Philadelphia to take the capital. The British also landed here in 1813 during the War of 1812, but the British were stopped by the Americans at Fort Hollingsworth and Fort Defiance and prevented the British from burning down Elkton.

A view of the Elk River from a hilltop. Some large houses are being built, and will sell for the $700,000 to $800,000 range, despite being miles from any town. The prices say a lot about the view.

Some haystacks are piled up to use for nearby horse farms.

Looking southeast down the river. A farm is on a hill down the river, providing some different scenery.

A blurry picture looking northeast at some houses along the river. The area seems to be a hidden place, and is pretty nice; the water is good for waterskiing and jetskiing. The house I was at even had a small beach, albeit only 3 feeet wide and 10 feet long.

The view from the screened-in porch on the second floor. It's not as good of a picture with the screen there, but maybe you'll feel like you're there with us drinking beers.

I like the way the outer counties of Maryland are rural and natural, I hope they stay that way.

Cool. My grandparents used to live at Chesapeake Isle, way down at the point.

Nice pics. Reminds me of a crabbing trip off of one of the Chesapeake inlets years ago. I think we went all the way down into Kent County though (Chestertown?)
