Excellent masterpiece! I love the well proportioned setbacks that convey a subtle grace despite this being a massive structure.

Yes, you rule Steel City! I love this building... a big 10 from me!

This is everything a skyscraper should be, in my opinion... nice height... soaring character... attractive Indiana limestone cladding... distinctive pyramid top... and it looks stunning at night next to the amazing Koppers Building! Art deco rules!

although, it would be cooler if it was the tallest in Pittsburgh. :)

I give it an 8/10. The only thing I'd like more is if the top wasn't so simple and perhaps accented with other materials.

Very nice, even though it looks plain, it's a classic and old-school building. 8.5/10

It's interesting to look at photographs of Pittsburgh from the 1930s... and you see how truly massive the Gulf Tower was for its time... today it has been dwarfed by U.S. Steel and other modern skyscrapers that crowd Grant St.

A very impressive art deco tower but there is something about the heavy looking pyramidal apex that lacks energy and grace compared with the famous NY towers.

I worked in this building, the interior is truly impressive, the deco moderne elevators doors, the marble lobby, and most of the floors were well decorated. eg the Treasury floor on 20 was done in brushed silver and greens, the executive floors 30 & 31 done in wood veneers ( not sure of type of wood) subdued lighting on most floors, the elevators were automatic however during the work week there were elevator operators in Gulf corporate color uniforms and if I remember they wore white gloves.
There was an observation deck on the 38th floor opened to the public. (on occasion if my work group managed to get an elevator by ourselves , we all did different farm animal sounds going down to the lobby) by the time the doors opened in the lobby we all were quietl, with exception of a red face operator from laughing. ( I might point out the CEO of Gulf at the time I worked there truly spoke and took time to know the workers by name) Today this is too damn rare. I really enjoyed my time working in this building , the people, and the corporation that once was.
Since the weather guide neon tubing was removed from the pyramid top it looks stark, it might look better with a metal trim finish to accent the top like the Chrysler Bldg.
It is too bad it is not the tallest in Pgh anymore. now I live with the transamerica pyramid not as impressive but will survive a major quake.

Excellent styling, but (as has already been said) it could use more setbacks. The first two-thirds of the building are a bit chunky.
