Ok this is just an idea but what about creating a skyscraper city guide to Leeds?
We could all do a post on a place that you think should be visited ect in Leeds.
I know there are websites like leedsliveitliveit.com but there are no personal everyday loiner views on these websites.
It’s just an idea, so don’t go taking my head off if you don’t like it.
Thanks

This is a great idea - i think this could be written for the ipod? A great device for walking around. This is done by linking note files together. Unless somebody is feeling ambitious and wants to look at doing a podcast? the notes thing could be similar to what is done on Wcities for the ipod. Link below. The last download of this I did was a little out of date....

I was actually thinking of starting this thread (or similar) the same day you did! Nothing like local knowledge for visitors wanting to find out about stuff to do in Leeds, Leeds attractions, things to do in Leeds, what to do in Leeds etc etc

My piece of advice for anyone staying in the city for more than a weekend would be to invest in a Leeds Card (run by the council) which offers a range of discounts on attractions, shops and facilities across Leeds. The card is available to both residents and visitors:
http://www.leeds.gov.uk/leedscard

Maybe people could add their own Leeds & surrounding area itineraries for say a day, a weekend, a week and a fortnight?

1 day - if you've only got a day in Leeds you're going to need to get up early! There's plenty in the centre to keep you entertained for the day. Leeds is renowned for it's shopping - Victoria Quarter, Corn Exchange, Kirkgate Marget and Briggate are a must for shoppers. Other shopping places incl The Light, The Headrow Centre and Leeds Shopping Plaza amongst others if you have time. For dinner there's hundreds of places in the centre ranging from cheap All-you-can-eat at City Square 'Mania' restaurants to expensive Bibby's and Anthony's. For a museum in the afternoon there is the Royal Armouries or Thackray Medical Museum.

Weekend - you're going to have time for shopping on the Saturday (see above), a museum, some nightlife (for which Leeds is famous - try Oceana or Discotheque by Gatecrasher nightclubs, or Baby Cream & Hard Rock Cafe Bars). On the Sunday you can sample a relaxing day in the countryside (Roundhay/Golden Acre Parks, Otley Chevin, Ilkley Moor etc)

Week - when I have more time!...

Good ideas, maybe we could get all the information put together and have pictures and day to day guides and also pages describing all the things to do and places to go.

And if anyone’s any good we could put it into a PDF file (adobe reader).

Two things that are a must when coming to Leeds are the royal armouries museum and tropical world, both are worth the visit and the armouries is free.
I also believe it is free to get into tropical world if you have a Leeds card but im not 100% shore.

Haha - I've not actually been yet! I've not heard bad things though - only good? I'd assumed since it was so new, and people seem to queue ages to get in that it must be half decent? I've been in Gatecrasher and was kinda disappointed - though there were no 'big' DJs the night I went. To be honest I don't know where is any good any more. Creation is a little rough and boring (the novelty is wearing off), Majestyk has gone (liked it in it's heyday) - real shame that building was the best building I've ever been in for a nightclub! I like middle floor of the Atirum for a bit of Indie Rock though... Where is 'the' place to go these days?

I've heard it isn't much better than the old Ritzy's it has replaced. Being the wrong side of 30 I don't hit the clubs much these days but Basics (regardless of where it is) and Space don't often fail to please.

For the old timers that used to go to the Gallery circa 1991 I have heard that Steve Luigi does a night of old club classics once a month at a club down by the market whose name escapes me.

Is that the one on New York Street that used to be called Liquid?

Iam a Loiner and believe the city is becoming an alien place.
Its a large dangerous crime ridden place, that seems to change everytime i
visit (and i live here).
I will come downtown every Saturday afternoon, and notice another tower growing either higher below an even seedier city.
Places like York,Chester,Durham are true elegant places.
Leeds? Don't make me laugh! D.U.M.P

I think you've been reading too many Batman comics... we're not Gotham City, you know. Leeds really isn't as bad as all that. It has its issues, just as every city.
And as for noticing another tower every time you 'go downtown', well, I can only hope you go more often, spot the masses of new towers, and post them on here for out reading pleaure.

Anyway...

Discotheque by Gatecrasher is great if you go see Hed Kandi, in fact the venue seems to have been built specifically for them.

Mission on a Thursday night is a fantastic gay night, always rammed full and has an electric atmosphere. (Avoid Protocol on a Saturday though.)
Townhouse is just fantastic all the time.

Oceana is okay if you're prepared for a super-cheesey night out. More like a huge bar with loud music than a nightclub.

Needs to know about any more, jus ask. I know most of the clubs in Leeds, comes from going out 3 or 4 times a week.

York, Chester and Durham have their fair share of problems, mate.
And you can't really compare a major UK city with a few smaller historic towns.
