DragonHRuffy July 10th, 2006, 04:02 PM NICE
Huhu July 13th, 2006, 10:20 AM That river has been cleaned up nicely, but it still reeked badly when I visited last year. Can't even imagine how it used to be before it got cleaned up.
DragonHRuffy July 13th, 2006, 01:36 PM Every river in the cities in Taiwan smells ^^... but not as smelly as the rivers in China ^^
Pangu July 13th, 2006, 01:46 PM Every river in the cities in Taiwan smells ^^... but not as smelly as the rivers in China ^^
Is that comment truly necessary?
thyrdrail July 13th, 2006, 03:45 PM actually i took a ferry ride on the tamshui river and it didnt smell. they had a nice boardwalk with stores and restaurants along the bank.
the love river did smell a bit even tho everyone said it was cleaned up. must've smelled alot worse before.

pierre-laurent July 13th, 2006, 06:16 PM thx for your nice pics! :)
actually i took a ferry ride on the tamshui river and it didnt smell. they had a nice boardwalk with stores and restaurants along the bank.it's true. once, my taiwanese relatives and me had dined at a charming "western" restaurant built on the bank of the tamshui river and it didn't smell at all. on the contrary, i kept a very good impression of it. but on the other hand, it's also true that the rivers of inner taipei, as both jilong and sindian rivers, smell a bit. during my holidays in tw, i used to jog from time to time on the sindian river's banks where there is a "park of the banks"(河濱公園 )with interesting pedestrian tracks. but sometime, the river was really being smelly. this park's original concept was excellent, but it's really a shame that the ecological policy doesn't follow...
the love river did smell a bit even tho everyone said it was cleaned up. must've smelled alot worse before.the love river used to be a real polluted and bad smelly river still about 10 years ago! and its romantic name sounded ironic lol. now, it's really nicer and cleaner by far.
i think criticisms from citizen help the public powers to take good decisions and to improve our country's infrastructures.
Pangu July 13th, 2006, 08:52 PM Ai River LOOKS rather clean from those pictures.
pierre-laurent July 13th, 2006, 09:20 PM Ai River LOOKS rather clean from those pictures.from this point of view, i must recognize that the kaohsiung municipality government has done a good job, love river's banks have become pretty and i had had a wonderful stroll by boat 2 years ago but even if the water quality is better than before it smells all the same a bit, and the public powers should work towards it.
Taihoku_Formosa July 14th, 2006, 05:06 AM depends on which part of Tamshui River i guess... near the river mouth(the place where thyrdrail took the ferry), because it contains seawater, it doesn't smell that much. however, a lot of garbages can be seen on that part of river.
pierre-laurent July 15th, 2006, 02:39 AM yes. actually, i don't know whole part of Tamshui river. i only know the area between "fishermen's port" and the ex-british consulate(hong mao castle) and the old streets of tamshui. i like very much these places. and it's truly a good choice to open a metro line until this nice town.
Huhu July 18th, 2006, 09:00 AM Danshui River was pretty nice when I visited there, wasn't totally clean but at least it didn't smell. People and their dogs were actually wading around in the water at one of the beaches (forgot the name but it's the 3rd ferry stop other than Danshui old town and Fisherman's Wharf), it was quite pleasant.

Being a small island nation, Taiwan actually has quite a few coastal cities :)
However, Kaohsiung is perhaps the largest coastal city.

Isn't it interesting that even though Taiwan is such a small island, it still has so many fairly large inland cities? Taipei, Taichung, Chia-i, Changhua, and Pingtung to name a few.

Almenac-SS August 5th, 2006, 11:18 PM I really want to visit Taiwan sometime. How is the night life in Kaoshiung and Taipei?
I heard Taiwan has some of the best night clubs in Asia.
Jay August 19th, 2006, 03:13 AM Kaoshiung looks neat! Everyone always talks about how ugly Tuntex tower is but really like the builidng.
Taiwan is definatly in my top 5 favorite countries. Although I don't know much about it outside of Taipei. Thanks for the pics. :)
