another bland, single-tiered bowl, you might say, and you'd be correct, but it certainly beats doncaster's old stadium - belle vue:

strange that its so small for a club with big ambitions. all talk.

Ahhhh this is great. Loved the old ground though. What's happening to that?

Better than doing a Darlington and rattling around in an empty bowl for years.

Doncaster FC another sleeping giant!

Yet another off the shelve football stadium that looks exactly the same as all the rest.

Why not go for something different. The Ground at Huddersfield was built years ago but still looks newer and better than most of the new ones.

The roof supports look like the same ones used for the Hull and Chelsea stadiums. Looks like Meccano.
Dull.

it's a stadium for doncaster rovers! - what did you expect, the san siro!?

is it a bit dull? yes. is it a bit cheap? yes. is it a huge improvement on belle vue? yes! :)

I'll be sorry to see old Belle Vue go. This looks bland. The original designs were more interesting but the town council balked at the cost and this was the compromise. I doubt many Rovers fans will mind though; a new stadium has been promised for over twenty years and as recently as 1998 it looked like the club would fold completely.

huddersfields ground isnt very good at all. looks good on tv, but thats it. you even have to go outside to get a burger - not what you expect from a modern ground.

the whole thing was done on the cheap. donnys new ground will be much nicer.

Looks a damn site better then this of the shelf shite that Doncaster are building. This design is the barratt home of football stadiums.

It's oh so predicatable and is an icon of modern Britain - all the housing estates look the same, all the out of town shopping centres looks the same and now even your football stadiums look the same :puke:

hi zim. zim, you make a fair point: the riverside (1994), the stadium of light (1997), the britannia stadium (1997), pride park (1997), the madejski stadium (1998), st mary's (2001), the williamson motors stadium (2003), the walkers stadium (2004) and the ricoh arena (2005) are all quite similar, all generally being, or having started out as, single-tiered bowls.

however, that only gives one side of the story. during the same time period we've also had / are getting some much more interesting designs, like:

the reebok, bolton (28,723) - built 1997:

also the single-tiered bowl shape allows medium-sized clubs to add further tiers to their stadiums should the need arise, and when it does the resulting expansion can look quite impressive:

stadium of light, sunderland (48,300) - built 1997:

cheers eden.

I take your point and strangely enough it was the riverside and the britannia stadium I was thinking off. I have been to both (to watch Port Vale away) and couldn't get over how similar they were.

You make a good point though re the other examples you have given. So I shall shut up on this, as they are different and all impressive.

Nice post earlier eden, bet it took you a while! Shows that we are pretty lucky in this country to have such a varirty of new stadiums popping up with the Falmer Stadium (Brighton) being my personal favourite. I personally don't mind the indenti-kit stadiums scattered across the country, I believe football is going through a tranistional period due to the financial side of the game becoming much more prominant which has resulted in the construction of these new stadiums. It's the most efficient way to do things I suppose such as the tight-rope clubs finances can be nowadays. Getting back on topic I think Doncasters new stadium quite classy and I'm pleased a club the size of Doncaster is undertaking such a venture, hopefully more clubs will follow suit so we don't have to sit/stand in grotty old stadiums anymore.

No. 80,000 would be too big for Doncaster Rovers. Doncaster Rovers stadium will have better seats than the San Siro though.

Great pics :) it's always nice to see money being spent on new facilities like this away from the big money venues (Wembley/Anfield/Emirates etc)
