The 54-story Wells Fargo Tower and the 45-story KPMG Tower, two trapezoidal office towers clad in a rare granite, offers office, retail and storage net rentable areas, as well as a parking area. Designed by Skidmore, Owings & Merrill, the Wells Fargo Center, which includes the two towers, won the prestigious Building Owners and Managers Association (BOMA) ‘Office Building of the Year’ award for 1986-1987, as well as numerous other architectural awards.

The centerpiece of Wells Fargo Center is an elegant, three-story, glass-enclosed atrium. The atrium links the two towers and showcases one of the most significant sculpture collections in Southern California, as well as an extensive array of restaurants and specialty shops.

The Wells Fargo Center's amenities include Nick & Stef's Steakhouse, California Pizza Kitchen, Court Café, California Crisp, Le Petite Boulangerie, Taipan, Pentolino and McDonald's. Specialty shops include Mrs. Field's Cookies, Rocky Mountain Chocolate and Starbucks. The Wells Fargo History Museum displays artifacts, maps and an authentic Abbot-Downing Concord stagecoach from the 1890s.

Bland building. I do like the sharp angle though..and this building seems to play the role of skyline-filler.

Its trianglar/trapeiziod shape saves it from being called a box.. The facade looks just fine though.. SOM could have done much better than that! :bash:

I refuse to be conned into giving it more marks. It still gets a five, because its just a distorted box, and easily distorted IMO. The facade would have earned it a 4 or less if it was a box anyway.

Well dimensioned, thought-out in design and placement.

BTW: I think that no building deserves lettering or logo's placed on it. Wells Fargo Center serves as a perfect illustration of this sad phenomenon.

6/10 - The facade dances with the light, thanks to the shiny stone, and there's something crisp and streamlined about the triangular (?) shape and knife-edged corners. It also plays off the nearby buildings well.

BUT...all in all, it's a flat-roofed - OK, OK - it isn't a box...but still...

the reflective facade is awesome (i've always been attracted toward reflective stone masonry facades for some reason). but i think the shape of the building somehow makes it too surreal. to me, a box that's not rectangular or square is not that good looking.

I almost mistook it for a 70's box ;-) Well in fact it's pretty good for a 80's box *hem*. I mean the facade's material is superb, I'd just wish it is used with some more creativity than lining up square windows in squarrish facades.
Oh well, at least it's not overwhelming at 220m only.

I love how they are so smooth and there doesn't seem to be any definition between the facade walls and the windows. Just one perfectly smooth wall. And the shapes are interesting. give them a different look depending on where you are standing. But on the whole, they are just small finnesses on typical box designs. But a good box. 8/10

I like it, but I don't really know why. Shape of it certainly helps.
