Port Gentil (which means "Friendly Port") is Gabon´s second biggest town. It is not really "big" because it only has 90 000 inhabitants and it dwarfs in the shadow of Libreville which has more than 550 000 inhabitants and is the capital of Gabon (but I won´t present Libreville in this thread). JAB323, yeah, after Côte d´ivoire´s downfall, Gabon and Senegal have the highest densities of French "expats" in sub-saharan Africa... but many of these so-called "expats" are second-generation and some even third generation (they have dual citizenship), and there is a constant flow of new ones arriving and leaving as well. Many do not even register at the embassy but official figures vary around +/- 25 000 Frenchpeople in Gabon which is a good batch considering that there are only around 700 000 local Gabonese for a population of around 1.2 million people only. There is also a relatively strong Lebanese community (10 000-15 000 approx.) in Gabon (many of them have night clubs, restaurants, some trendy bars, ice cream parlours, café shops, furniture stores, boutiques for international fashion items etc, car shops.) and there is a growing Chinese community, too........ and of course a very large community of African immigrants . (estimated at around 450 000 other African nationalities) In the early 70´s Gabon turned out to be a magnet for migrant workers from Cameroon, Benin, Togo, Congo-Brazzaville, Chad and even from far away like Senegal ....but the governement has imposed very strict laws for immigrants now . So bad tongues claim that Gabonese are "arrogant" "pampered by oil" and " very xenophobic" towards other Africans. In the past years tens of thousands migrant workers from Gabon have been expelled in a very harsh and unfriendly way by the police. (those with illegal status).

Very beautiful beaches , a tropical paradise ! What a fantastic spot for surfing ! As a net producer of oil, it is very surprising that Gabon offers tropical paradise like Port Gentil .

I have visited two most prestigious island resorts in Southeast Asia but the quality of water and the exoticness is not as striking as Port Gentil as from what I seen in the pictures

You find a picture.

Right click, save as. Remember where you saved it.

Go to imageshack's homepage.

http://imageshack.us/

Browse, and find the picture you saved to your hard drive.

Then, upload it

When the picture is uploaded, there will be a direct link to it displayed on imageshack(at the very bottom of the page that pops up saying you uploaded the image-it should say "direct link to image").

Take that direct link and do the normal image encoding image , and you're set.

Remember, you have to register at imageshack first before you can start uploading images.

After you register, you can make this all even easier by downloading the imageshack toolbar

With that installed, all you have to do to upload pictures is click "upload" on the toolbar which will appear in your browser to start uploading pictures-then it will upload the photos, and you'll be able to encode them the same way(with the direct link).

Well, you are right as far as Cape Verde is concerned. but I read a lot about beaches in West and Central Africa and other parts of the continent on various skyblogs and other holiday diaries on the net in the course of time. People go into raptures when they talk about beaches in Port Gentil and its environs. Beaches are top-class and beyond any doubt follow the ones on Cape Verde (on island of Sal). As for Sierra Leone, Senegal and Sao Tome, no way, they beaches are certainly nice to very nice over there but the water and sand quality is not as paradise-like as in Port Gentil. The setting in Sierra Leone and Sao Tome is certainly the best due to the lush tropical mountains but not the quality of water and sand!:)

Look, I have read a lot about POG, the waters are crystal-clear over there and nobody has polluted the sea, I think the photos that I posted speak for themselves! The are all of RECENT date! As for Sao Tome, you are right, beaches are nice and untouched but the sand is more of a golden brown colour, it is not as snow white as in POG, Coral reefs are also to be found outside of Port Gentil! Moreover, read what Skyprince has said about the beaches of POG, he is from Asia , a region that has superb beaches, too!:)

Maybe we can agree on the fact that no matter if the country is Cape verde Sao Tome or Gabon, all need to develop their tourism industries rapidly, people would really enjoy it, I would love to see more eco-tourism projects "Malaysian style" undertaken in those three countries. :)

Senegal and Cabo Verde have been promoted a lot lately as the so called "Caribbean of Africa" over here, at quite competitive prices compared with the actual Caribbean sea destinations.

Well I guess it depends on which colour of beach you prefer. Btw there are definetly NO reefs in Port Gentil!

Please, look at the pics properly. Moreover, you can read it that there ARE smaller reefs around Port Gentil and environs! This is even documented in special journals/magazines.

No , there isn´t...Port Gentil is situated partly on an island, but there are regular services by boat and by plane, of course..... Gabon has 65 (!!) registered airports which is a lot considereing that the country is almost empty and relatively urbanized!!!

But a new highway is planned btween Port Gentil and Libreville. As for Lambaréné and Libreville, there is a highway.
