Denver's tallest skyscraper has been standing proud as the tallest building in Colorado and the entire Mountain West region of the United States since its completion in 1984.

Cast of smooth sardinian granite, the 56-story tower was completed in 1984 during Denver's Energy Boom, that famous real estate building frenzy of the 1980s that pushed most of downtown's skyline into the sky.

Republic Plaza contains 1,239,000 square feet of office space, a significant amount of which is leased to TIAA-CREF, law firms and banks.

6/10 - Well, there's good contrast between stone and windows, the facade seems to be able to catch the light well *at least sometimes*, and it has some height...

But it is a rather humdrum box, I'm afraid, if not the ugliest I've seen...

It has character and doesn't seem daunting, exhibitionistic or boring.....therefore:

yeah its kinda boxy. but that is okay but the thing it looks mundane, no special or uniqueness about it.

wow, never realized that it's actually from the postmodern era! i like how this building's got a reflective facade, even though its excess boxiness is not that good...

i don't know why they included the narrow black horizontal lines. the building could have been cool and monolithic, but they break up the facade.

Another bland box, in a bland, boxy skyline. But this is what you get with SOM in that era. At least the facade wasn't done in one of the popular red, brown or umber hues Denver seems to love adorning its buildings in...At least it is large, powerful and stable looking. It would make a great building for a bank, defense contractor or oil company to be locate offices in. This building was clearly built with one thing in mind: profit.

We have a very similar building in Minneapolis. Fortunately for us, we have 3 buildings taller than it that are all stunning. Feast your eyes on 33 South Sixth.
