is that just a one lane road for both sides? I can already see encrachments springing up besides it unless some provision has been made for future expansion.

One lane is all they need for now I guess...and there is PLENTY of room for expansion!

-swerveut: as cntower said, the single lane is good for time being to move heavy traffic from Hub City in Balochistan to Super Highway by-passing Karachi metropolitan area. There are no encrochment on NBP as of now but there are a few villages visible on both sides of NBP. Also, Toll-booth is not open. Some remaining work is still going on. Note: The first and fifth picture shows start/end-point of NBP at Super-Highway.

Yeah, the good thing is that there is plenty of room for expansion. And from now on, we should take this approach. The M-2 motorway has six lanes but it's traffic is almost nothing. I'm glad M-3 only had four lanes with room to expand if needed. That's how it should be.

Very nice tunnel this is. I like it.

The tunnel isn't that long but it is an important road; they should have at least planned to extend it. What happens if they decide to upgrade it to a dual carriageway......->BOTTLENECK!

This is the ideal size for these kind of tunnels. Have any of you ever been in the Lincoln and Holland tunnels connecting New Jersey to New York that run underneath the Hudson River? They are exactly like this one. Only two lanes and a very slender sidewalk on either side of the tunnel.

Holland tunnel is a piece of crap. It takes me 2 hours usually to get through traffic

Oh My God! The ariel view of Makran Coastal Highway is spactacular!! I dont think I ever imagined that this road would be so beautiful!

Every time, i see a new picture of Coastal Highway, it appears more and more beautiful!! This part of Pakistan is really some thing i can bet (if it was Halal) will attract all kinds of tourists.

I hope we see an industrialized Gwadar soon, so that the tourists from Karachi to Gwadar see what beauty lie hidden deep inside Pakistan.

If so, it has been improved greatly. I remember it as being bearly wider than the bus I was travelling on. 600 miles of potholes.

It looks like the Mekran Highway is a great drive, with those hills, no wonder it it was such a barrier to Alexander the Great.

^^ Salt Range highway seems to have potential to turn it into scenic drive and have some rest or picnic areas with panaromic views!!

Some nice hike trails & camping sites could be developed too as its more accessible & safe for closeby city dwellers now.

Yep that area is a wonderful drive. I have driven through that area many times myself.

I love looking at pictures of the M2, as it's one piece of infrastructure in the country that appears to be of international quality.

Also on the M2 along the salt ranges, they have done a lot of work with respect to safety. A lot more signs, much more police presence and they have put up concrete barriers along the sides I think to prevent falling rocks from crashing onto the road! It seems to have done the trick, people are slowing down much more and taking time, before people use to rush the Salt Ranges, especially bus drivers, which lead to many accidents and deaths in the past.

The salt range near Islamabad is probably one of the best places I've ever driven. That twisty section that's extremely uphill (downhill). Other than that, it's very very boring. It's all khet khalian.

Hey some of these pics are really very old, this have changed a bit around these roads. Some road is Karachi as shown above is Zaibunnisa Street, Mai Kolachi had a complete face lift few months ago. KPT underpass looks somewhat different now, more like few past posts with a speedometer.
