I am from Houston so i do not know much about mass trasnportation....post some comparisons between them...thanks in advance! :) Rail mass transit's greatest advantage is in having fixed infrastructure. That is, once tracks are built, they are built. To double a freeway's capacity, a thick swath of land have to be cleared for many miles on end. As you can see, expanding the Katy Freeway is tearing up half the solar system right now. The amount of effort and materials required is simply astronomical, and during most of the day, the expanded freeway sits fairly empty. A 16-lane freeway is still 16 lanes wide at 4AM, and took 16 lanes of effort and money to construct, even if a 4-lane freeway would suffice at that time of day. To double a railway's capacity, simply buy more trains and run them twice as frequently. To quadruple capacity, run them four times as often. No new construction is needed. During low-traffic hours such as 4AM, trains can be run as infrequently as needed, and the schedule can be adjusted upon demand, e.g. during sporting events and disaster evacuations. Another benefit of rail transit is its lack of emissions. Urban trains (generally) run on electrical power, and as such produce no pollution in their immediate vicinity. During peak-traffic hours, trains still run on time. There are no traffic jams, only people jams. That is in contrast with automotive traffic, which is capricious and unpredictable, and ultimately very wasteful of time. ************* I am not as familiar with buses, but one thing is to be noted: bus routes can aggravate traffic congestion if they have to stop on the right lane of busy roads. Bus stop parking bays must be provided to serve the public more efficiently. Xusein July 20th, 2006, 08:00 AM Mass Transit: cheaper...and in some areas, more accesible than using a car, but in most areas in the US...slow and unreliable. Cars: personal choice of freedom, go anywhere you want and when...but gas prices are getting too high for some...and cars are expensive to maintain and insure. SE9 July 20th, 2006, 08:07 AM I would prefer access to a good Mass Transit system, than a good car. You don't have the problem of traffic, its usually safer, and you can enjoy the view/trip instead of focusing on the road. Sinjin P. July 20th, 2006, 09:38 AM ^^ But still I enjoy riding a car because it's more convenient than public transpo and I'm not yet a driver. Minato ku July 20th, 2006, 09:49 AM Mass transit is better but it don't eliminate traffic jam. Mass transit is speeder than car in city center (when your city haven't freeway in the center ) It is cheaper and i don't kno.. mass transit it is better Underground Parking in my city are expensive, street are so small, traffic are so bad in my city and my family don't use our big renault Velsatis. :scouserd: I-275westcoastfl July 20th, 2006, 09:53 AM I like driving and mass transit sucks around here once i get my own car i wont use transit, maybe on rare occasions. Either way both have pros and cons but when it comes to big cities or urban areas mass transit is a better way to move people around. Minato ku July 20th, 2006, 10:30 AM For information Renault Vel satis http://www.caradisiac.com/media/images/le_mag/mag220/renault_vel_satis_01_big.jpg http://www.autointell-news.com/european_companies/renault/renault-cars/vel-satis/vel-satis-2001-interior-250-191.jpg Yes big french luxury car exist :) In Paris drivers are mad. You can found Hummer and little Smart in the same street. Hummer VS Smart who is the winner? Smart :scouserd: that is Paris traffic. I perfer use mass transit. kashyap3 July 20th, 2006, 03:42 PM depends with the current price for petrol/gas mass transit will be a lot cheaper, it is my first priority but if there is no mass transit available to take me to my destination...then i just have to get a ride mass transit is definitely cheaper, smarter and more environment friendly busdriver July 21st, 2006, 02:33 AM Mass transit vs cars..... http://humour.200ok.com.au/img/Bus55Accident.jpg Mass transit wins. godblessbotox July 21st, 2006, 02:43 AM i enjoy the both of them. mass transit for my day to day commute to work. and my hyundai for when i want to just go somewere for no particular reason sc4ish July 21st, 2006, 03:12 AM mass transit, no doubt about it Manila-X July 21st, 2006, 04:30 AM I'm gonna pick mass transit over cars especially if you live in a city like HK.
