This is a awesome thread, show to us some of the beach culture we hav as the aussies hav too ! I am a big fan os the aussie surfers like Occy,Tom Carrol, Nat young,Gary elketron,Luke egan....and the newest guys on tour like Joel parkinson, Mick fanning,Taj burrow,Nathan Edge...I lov australia because of the similarity with Brazil in that way to spend the entire life in the beaches and nature

Nice photos there. I wish that I could meet a nice young lady like those in photos 17, 27 and 30, but unfortunately no-one seems interested...

On a more serious note, despite these nice images Brazil does have some serious problems - poverty and the resulting gap between rich and poor seems to be the worst. This has some rather undesirable consequences. During the recent World Cup there was a report on ABC TV ("Foreign Correspondent" I think) about how the mothers of some of Brazil's most famous (and highly paid) football players were being kidnapped and held to ransom. One of these players is moving himself and his family to Europe to play there, one of the reasons being to escape this problem.

I once knew a guy from Sao Paulo, Brazil, and he said that if you leave any of your possessions sitting beside you for more than a few moments they will be gone next time you look, and "you never see again". He and I once went down to Sydney Harbour at Kirribilli at night to take photos and we saw another guy getting out of his car and putting his own camera on the cars' roof for a few moments while he did something else (not going anywhere else though). My friend could not believe his eyes and said "in Brazil you cannot do this"! Another time he said that if you want anything done quickly you have to pay (bribes) for it, and that there is a lot of corruption in Brazil. Maybe he was only referring to public servants e.g. to renew your driver's license. I don't remember. IIRC he also said that in Brazil he carried a gun. He would sum up life in Brazil by saying "we have the best life (or country), but shit people"...

I've also heard that the police advise that when driving at night in the cities that you drive through red lights if it's safe to do so, because if you stop you could become the victim of a carjacking.

Perhaps poverty is also why poor farmers are moving into and cutting down the Amazon rainforest.

Sorry, I don't mean to put down Brazil - it looks like a beautiful country. All countries have their problems, and I'm sure that there are many worse places to live.

P.S. I've seen pictures of mountains in southern Brazil with snow on them. So is it true - it does snow in Brazil?

All of this is true, especially with the crime in Sao Paulo and Rio de Janeiro, but despite all this, its still definitely a better country to live in than Australia. A much more relaxed and happy people as a whole, I think.

Brazil looks fantastic.

The crime rate is a bit of a worry for me.This seriously diminishes the lifestyle.

Despite what you say,Australia is a very relaxed place.I havent been to Brazil,so I cant really compare

Brazil looks REALLY beautiful in all those pictures! I actually think Brazil and Australia have a lot in common (apart from practically the same national colours ;) ), but we all share the same outdoors Summer climate, the same relaxed lifestyle, the love for sport, the great people, the two planned national capital cities (Brasilia and Canberra), and so on! I can't wait to travel to Brazil one day also! The "crime and corruption" doesn't worry me at all! :)
