jeronimo July 22nd, 2006, 04:28 PM Lovely pics, Jo. They kind of bring back my memories of the old time, when I was a student in the University nearby me and me mates frequented that area a lot for food and fun stuff.
Nongkhai_tong July 22nd, 2006, 06:52 PM I really like the pic above National Stadium.
Thanks Jo
classhopper July 22nd, 2006, 07:45 PM Suan Luang always fascinate me
George W. Bush July 23rd, 2006, 09:12 PM Pic #3 is surreal ...
Pas July 24th, 2006, 04:18 PM So much textures especially the shophouse pic :)
George W. Bush July 24th, 2006, 05:45 PM Btw, how old are these shophouses? 30, 40, 50, 60 years? They look aged (my guess: 40 years), but the "design" is kind of ageless, pretty minimalistic :)
Jo July 24th, 2006, 06:41 PM I wonder that as well... I'm guessing 30-40 years, does that sound reasonable? The tropical climate sure is harsh on some buildings but with some (or rather heavy) renovation and modernisation they could even be quite nice I guess.
The row of shophouses in the pic are from the Khlong Toey area btw.
satit28 July 24th, 2006, 08:35 PM great collection.........
i like those shop houses........lil bit rustic.....but kinda nice.......

The row of shophouses in the pic are from the Khlong Toey area btw.Well, a lick of paint here and there can do wonders ... but anyway, seeing how fast Bangkok is developing I don't think these buildings will survive the next 30 years :)
Jo July 25th, 2006, 01:31 PM Yeah.. some paint, better and larger windows upstairs and a nicer solution to secure the entrance could make a big difference. But I also hope these buildings won't survive in the future, it's probably better to replace them :)
I have to say one positive thing about it though. It's probably quite good architecture in terms of building a neighbourhood where community sense. People there get to interact a lot.

People there get to interact a lot.In a way, yes ... but I do not know if that's really a feature of the architecture ... one could also say that there is generally much more interaction between people in poorer neighborhoods (like Klong Toey) than in better-off ones (at least in developing and emerging countries).
Arewethereyet? July 26th, 2006, 08:47 PM love your expression..neat..post more jo
