Le décor du jardin de Majorelle a franchi la Méditerranée pour s'installer avenue Marceau à la Fondation Yves Saint Laurent qui présente une collection de caftans de ville anciens. Comme à Marrakech, on retrouve le bleu intense Majorelle, la fraîcheur d'une vraie fontaine au coeur d'une ambiance orientale où trône une trentaine de somptueux caftans, pour hommes et femmes, datant du XVIIIe au XXe siècle, tous ornementés de riches broderies et brocarts. Selon la commissaire de l'exposition, Rachida Alaoui, cette tunique longue et large sans col, appelée caftan, est « d'origine persane ». Au XIIe siècle, elle est adoptée par les Berbères d'Andalousie et, dès le XVIIe, les villes du nord du Maroc (Fès, Tétouan et Rabat) s'en inspirent. Grâce au développement des techniques de tissage de la soie, cette tenue citadine devient alors précieuse. L'exposition est complétée par de massifs bijoux ruraux, fabriqués avec de l'ambre et de l'argent martelé, des panneaux décoratifs de broderies et des tentures destinées aux cérémonies de fête. Enfin, trois silhouettes signées Yves Saint Laurent marquent l'attachement du couturier aux formes et aux couleurs du vêtement traditionnel marocain, un style qui l'a inspiré tout au long de sa carrière.
