The traditional dress for men is called djellaba; a long, loose, hooded garment with full sleeves. For special occasions, men also wear a red cap called tarbouche and mostly referred to as Fez. Nearly all men wear baboosh—those soft leather slippers with no heel, often in yellow. Many women do as well but others wear high-heeled sandals, often in silver or gold tinsel.

The distinction is the djellabas has a hood, while a Kaftan does not. The women’s djellabas are mostly of bright colors with ornate patterns, stitching, or beading, while men wear djellabas in plainer, neutral colors. Women are strongly attached to their "Moroccan wardrobe", despite the financial costs involved. The production of such garments is relatively expensive, as most of the work is done by hand. Despite the costs involved most women purchase a minimum of one new kaftan or "tk`chita" every year, normally for a special, social event, such as a religious festival or a wedding. Nowadays, it is an unwritten rule that Moroccan dress is worn at such events.

I dont think it is the same way. When you say Arab, personally it indicates Gulf countries/culture to me. Hence, you will agree with me that people there do not dress up in this same way.
The vast majority of them cover themselves and do not show anything else. I mean, what kind of dressing up is that?
I personally think that Morocco was able to value its cultural heritage while trying to modernize. It is for this reason that it is not as developed (economically, and socially) as well as other modernist states such as Turkey, Tunisia...who adopted Westernism at a rapid pace, but to the detriment of their traditions... I mean this revolves upon Rostow and the modernization rhetoric that prevailed in Politicians and Sociologists' minds in the 1950-70s following the independence domino effect.
Nevertheless Morocco was able to keep more of its culture (architecture, clothes...) more intact than many neighbouring states. Perhaps this is the selling argument that allows Morocco to endeavor to attract 10million tourists by 2010...and have Marrakech become a city many of the world's fortunes and stars decide to buy residences in...

OK, that was a stupid comment I made. But there are some clothes that are the same in several countries. For example, the tunics and gowns.

This garment, traditionally called a gandora, is worn by men in the Saharan regions of Morocco. It is prestigious for men of the Sahara to wear lots of cloth, so this garment is large and is one size fits all. You could wear alone or on top of a shirt or long sleeved shirt and baggy or regular pants. A long cotton turban is a traditional accent that is usually worn with these Saharan garments.

This Saharan turban is traditional and is a very practical head dress that men use for many purposes. Men in the Sahara Desert would use this turban to protect them selves from the wind, from the dust, from the cold during those harsh dry cold winter days and also against the pounding heat. While in the hot Sahara Desert, using a turban helps keep the moist between the skin and the fabric. This way, the skin is protected and at the same time the body doesn’t loose too much water. In addition to what’s mentioned, men in the Sahara, especially among the Kel Tamashek people also called “Touareg” would wear a turban like this and cover their faces except the eyes even when they need to eat or drink. You would wonder why they would put theme selves through this, but it is a cultural practice to show respect to the others especially the elders in the community.

In Morocco, this beautiful piece is called Burnoose or Selham. It is made in Morocco from a nice blend of wool and cotton. This Burnoose also has a hood with an elegant tassel. The Burnoose is worn by both Imazighen (Berbers) and Arabs. This garment is traditionally worn on a long garment such as a Moroccan hooded jellaba or a white Saharan gandora or robe as you can see on the image. It could be worn by just putting it over the shoulders without having the head go through the neck opening or you can put the head through the neck opening especially if you want to use the hood, the cape would still drape over the shoulders. The Moroccan Burnoose is a garment for any occasion. You can still wear the burnoose over regular clothes if you want and will look great!

This jellaba is a national garment for men in Morocco and is beautifully made of polyester. The jellaba is hooded and long sleeved. The sleeves are 21” long. Elegant embroidery and buttons decorate the front. It is 57" long from shoulder down to the bottom, 21” across from shoulder to shoulder and 30" across the waist or 60” all around. This Moroccan garment has nice masculine embroidery on the front, on the neck in addition to elegant buttons for decoration and adjustment of the neck. It also has embroidery on the sides, on the hood and on the sleeves. For a convenient wear, this garment has one slit on each side at the waist level. It is suppose to be roomy. Please keep in mind that as long as the jellaba doesn't go bellow the ankle and not higher than 4" above the ankle, you are wearing the jellaba the right way. A long sleeved shirt and long pair of pants are recommended with the Moroccan jellaba. Consider a Fes hat under page Clothing and click on accessories, it looks great with this jellaba.

This beautiful flatweave consists of traditional sets of patterned bands with beatiful natural colors that the Amazigh (Berber) pople of this part of Morocco ar well known for. This shawl is also called taghnast from the verb ghans and it means to cover in Tmazight (Berber), another Berber name for this shawl is tahandirt in Tamazirt (Berber) language. Some may call it handira which is a term that derives from the Berber word tahandirt and it is adopted from the Berber language by Arabic speakers. This textile is used daily by the Amazigh (Berber) women in the mountains while in their tents and while they are herding their animals.

"C'est mon identité, c'est mon pays. Ça représente tout ce que j'ai eu depuis mon enfance et c'est un immense plaisir d'abord de présenter le drapeau de mon pays dans d'autres pays (...) On peut le voir qui pétille de mille et une paillettes. C'est comme ça que je vois mon pays et que je l'adore. (...) C'est avec ces mots que le créateur Albert Oiknine s'est exprimé sur le premier caftan de sa collection présentée hier soir au Carrousel du Louvre à Paris. Un merveilleux Caftan tout en strasses qui n'était autre que le drapeau du Maroc.
Ce fut un moment extrêmement fort en émotion, et hautement symbolique car Albert est citoyen marocain, juif de confession.
Alors que le monde se radicalise un peu partout, qu'au Maroc de plus en plus de barbes se ralongent et de plus en plus de foulards sont tissés, Albert sublime la beauté féminine en dévoilant une merveilleuse collection sous le signe de la citoyenneté, de l'identité marocaine, pluricultuelle
