Danubis July 26th, 2006, 04:05 AM this is on the gregorian site is it not?! i dont mind the boxy modern box, but i thought the site could have had slightly better
edit : and lol, look at the gallery of modern art 3d image!?!? what is that big boxy thing on the roof? im sure it isnt there in real life.
edit #2: just realised theres two buildings on site, bloody hell, it will be dense as cull said.
Grantus July 26th, 2006, 04:14 AM its about time that side of the city started booming.
Maroon Grown July 26th, 2006, 04:25 AM here we go. everyone is gonna start whinging its not tall enough. its bloody dense enough, thats for sure.
im also happy its not taller that 400 George because i like it stepped up in levels from the river. I was originally under the impression that 400 George occupied the entire site.
should be good. better than nothing and IMO, this end of town shouldnt be as tall as the eastern side.
Orfeo July 26th, 2006, 04:29 AM I was wondering what they were going to do with the rest of the site
This is going to almost entirely block 400 George street, so I actually wish it was just a little bit shorter.....Otherwise it seems alright.
scottsimmons80 July 26th, 2006, 05:03 AM Love it! Bring on these type of developments in this area!
GMAC July 26th, 2006, 05:23 AM Awesome!!! Yeah its a bit of a shame that it blocks 400 George St so much but at least the river side of the building is all glass!!
CULWULLA July 26th, 2006, 06:02 AM those Law courts are massive. just scaled them from elevation,, a full 60m/200ft high.
JayT July 26th, 2006, 06:10 AM And another tower!!!
179 Turbot Street!!
his one is on Turbot Street - where the suncorp theatre is. This one is an awsome design - glass clad with a sloping top. Its only about 115 metres though.
Check it out below. It also features the Old Suncorp Plaza redevelopment.

Propably should have its own thread.
J
zsteel July 26th, 2006, 06:24 AM check out page 77 and 78 on the PDF above. Looks a bit boxy.
WestEnderBender July 26th, 2006, 06:47 AM Well this looks very cool! I like dark blue glass a lot better, though it should look great beside the green 400 George. Kind of like Brissy Square and 275 George will appear.
And yeah Maroon Gown, would be better taller, and with 400 George even taller again, but hey it's better than nothing at all, and it looks great ;)
And I love the top feature on this building. 10 times better than 400 and 275 george... What is strange is why they didn't build some kind of twin-tower structure here, if it's the same developer of 400 George? Like, Rialto towers...
Locke July 26th, 2006, 08:29 AM Oh boy, it's like Groundhog Day in this part of town.
The whole approach to this area of town is misguided IMO.
In almost EVERY possible way this office zone is second best and derivative to the golden triangle area of town. It didn't have to be though!
It could have been the NEW golden triangle, but it won't be. Second best heights (130m, what is this Adelaide!), second best designs (to ones that are 20 years old like CP1), results in this area failing to have any edge or focal point.
It's like Southport on the Gold Coast, something you drive thru (or work thru here) to get to the interesting bit of the city.
Yet again another failure to produce a single signature tower in this area, it's all just staight up slabs. (though this one is on a small site so I don't blame them as much as 400 George).
130m here, 145m on 400 George, 140 something metres on BAC, well that adds up to 400m worth of office tower, or a Jin Mao tower if you are trying to visualise that. Shame we couldn't have gotten that but then that would have taken some actual vision.
I know some people have the attitude of 'take whatever we can get and be happy for it' but I think we can do a LOT better. Build a 200m office tower and leave some room to grow, plan for the future, this is all just short sighted crap, which, as I saw on the news today, is appropriate since that's what we will be drinking in 2008 because of a similar lack of vision in building dams.
On the plus side, I do like the side facade.
SoulvisionQ1 July 26th, 2006, 09:28 AM I somewhat agree...Its uninspirational and boxy, but good for the density in the area... Although I'm a bit confused about the exact location because so much is going up around that area... :|!! here's 2 more :)
http://i68.photobucket.com/albums/i16/soulvisionQ1/Ttower2.jpg
http://i68.photobucket.com/albums/i16/soulvisionQ1/Tanksttower.jpg
Brissy4me July 26th, 2006, 02:12 PM I am speechless, how many more proposals are we going to get! We will be a mini-manhattan before we know it!!
Grantus July 26th, 2006, 02:30 PM Has anybody stopped to think that maybe the people building it might be on a buget or something? Maybe thats why many proposals arnt as high or big or whatever as us sky scraper fans want them to be?
SkyBoy July 26th, 2006, 02:56 PM I wonder if there's a render that shows both this and 400 George 'cos I still can't figure out in my head how the two will look together. I mean would 400 George be directly behind this, or would it be on the left of it?? :?
CULWULLA July 26th, 2006, 03:01 PM i think we need an update map of some sort with new towers- uc, proposed and approved, with outline of tower floor plan.
SoulvisionQ1 July 26th, 2006, 03:35 PM There are 3 brand new very similar office towers in the same area at the same time... We need a render of the skyline...Anyone have photoshop? I use to...until the 30 day free period ended...lol
BrizzyChris July 26th, 2006, 03:45 PM Ok, lets start taking bets on what project is going to fall through. No way will all these office developments go ahead.
Brissy4me July 26th, 2006, 04:11 PM I wreckon they all will be built.
Malt July 27th, 2006, 12:19 AM They will only just fill the demand though, why would they fall though.
If its all A grade office space good on them!
dan_ July 27th, 2006, 02:08 AM there is plenty of demand, but all the new office space is priced at around $400/sqm as that's what it costs to build and make a reasonable return on cost.
and there isnt plenty of demand for $400/sqm office space.
WestEnderBender July 27th, 2006, 04:06 AM ^^ A lot of the demand though is companies looking to upgrade, which would leave cheaper office space available once they move into the expensive office space, I'd assume.
KJBrissy August 2nd, 2006, 04:14 AM For all who are confused about where this is check the google maps on this thread:
http://www.skyscrapercity.com/showthread.php?t=38370&page=7&pp=25
It's development number 4 - next to 400 George Street.
Orfeo December 1st, 2006, 01:22 AM This building has been approved, but the developers want to to clad it in gold glass instead of the blue seen in the renders, so a resubmittion will be required. It is planned that the building will start construction early next year and be completed by 2009.
There are a few updated renders, but only 1 side of the building seems to have any gold glass on it. I presume they are yet to resubmitt.
http://img247.imageshack.us/img247/47/goldgn6.jpg
http://img457.imageshack.us/img457/9383/gold2ay5.jpg
BrizzyChris December 1st, 2006, 09:48 AM Not sure if it is part of the revised DA, but I count the height as 132m. The top of the building is 145m AHD, and it says the ground is 13mAHD, which equals 132m.
Locke December 15th, 2006, 12:34 PM Love the gold glass idea. I wish Empire Square was gold,'but somewhere along the line some boring f**k must of nixed that.
GMAC December 15th, 2006, 04:23 PM I hope this one does get the gold treatment...it should contrast beautifully with 400 George.
neilo63 December 15th, 2006, 11:03 PM I hope this one does get the gold treatment...it should contrast beautifully with 400 George.
Agreed.
Ausilencer December 16th, 2006, 03:27 AM I agree too - I like the green on Empire and I hope that it stays green, but having some contrast always helps, so gold for this one is a good idea in my books.
KJBrissy February 7th, 2007, 04:38 AM The tower is called North Bridge and the height is RL149.93m - another 150m tower for Brissie!!! It is also 38 storeys tall.

The Turbot and Tank Street elevations will have gold glass and the river and George Street elevations will have blue glass.
Orfeo February 7th, 2007, 04:50 AM Nice find.
Very bright now......but interesting, though it's now pretty much exactly as tall as 400 George. Hopefully this will be approved quickly and they'll start soon.
CULWULLA February 7th, 2007, 04:51 AM ^is there a thread for northbridge?
Orfeo February 7th, 2007, 04:56 AM ^
This is the thread for north bridge - previously it was 31 Tank street and a smaller approved DA. The developers said they'd resubmit, and here it is.
KJBrissy February 7th, 2007, 04:58 AM It looks from the outside almost identicle to the initial approval, except now it is a little taller and there is a gold facade for parts of 2 sides.
WestEnderBender February 7th, 2007, 05:04 AM ^^ This is the thread for North Bridge. It's the name for 31 Tank Street. Looks so much better now, it was already a good design.

KJBrissy February 7th, 2007, 05:12 AM Another one for you to change in Emporis Cul ;)
CULWULLA February 7th, 2007, 05:13 AM ^yes, silly me. i thought it was new bldg, but anyway ive deleted that thread ,placed info here. great bldg! ill update E
KJBrissy February 7th, 2007, 05:13 AM I don't mind developers redesigning our highrises taller!
Locke February 7th, 2007, 05:21 AM Much more interesting now.
...and more height never goes astray!
Good stuff.
neilo63 February 7th, 2007, 09:40 AM She's a pretty face now. Looking forward to this section of town becoming nice and fresh.
scottsimmons80 February 8th, 2007, 02:32 AM Great news - it looks even better than before now! Has really become a stunner!!
Maroon Grown February 8th, 2007, 04:45 AM i was previously unimpressed with this one but it has turned out quite well. i actually think the renders dont do it any justice. i reckon it will turn out even better!
Malt February 8th, 2007, 05:43 AM Apparantly Other peole havnt found it important yet.. But i wanted to know what the yellow/gold actually was.
anyway...
the Glass is "G.James Twin Glaze Solarplus Low E LE54 (e) on clear glass"
The Gold is infact.... "Folded Perforated Screens, Bronze Anodised Aluminium Sheets"
It also provides a pedestrian link from Turbot to Tank st, which i like. Thats oln page 46 of the Applicant Proposed Plans.
KJBrissy February 9th, 2007, 07:09 AM It will hopefully give the building a classy 3D look (Kind of similar to the way the State Law Centre does with the supports coming out from the flat glass)
Brissy4me February 9th, 2007, 08:10 AM I think it will blend well with the surrounding buildings, and this building isn't crappy.
KJBrissy February 10th, 2007, 01:17 AM This 150m tall construction in the North Quater will hopefully give it a bit of punch against the Golden Traingle and we can have all areas of the city doing well.
The Botanic Gardens area looks as if it is going to be mostly Residential.
KJBrissy February 22nd, 2007, 08:18 AM New DA (http://www.ourbrisbane.com/psf/servlet/DAServlet/bcc/964569?searchBy=address) out and submitted.
There's been an increase in GFA with another 3 levels added, although it's still 150m.
There's also been a refinement of the facade.

chowie March 30th, 2007, 02:58 PM yeah finally another laneway arcade
should have more of this arcade in brisbane!!!
chowie March 30th, 2007, 03:00 PM btw which one r they constructing first? 400 george or northbridge tower?
Maroon Grown March 30th, 2007, 03:11 PM looks as though those pictures are from 400 george, not northbridge.
WestEnderBender March 30th, 2007, 03:27 PM 400 George is to be constructed first. The revised version of NorthBridge is yet to be approved I believe.
KJBrissy March 31st, 2007, 04:25 AM looks as though those pictures are from 400 george, not northbridge.
The entire site there will hold both.
KJBrissy March 31st, 2007, 04:27 AM 400 George is to be constructed first. The revised version of NorthBridge is yet to be approved I believe.
Northbridge is due to finish construction at the end of 2008. The original design is approved, they will just start building that, and when they have the approval for the new design they will continue building and finish it off. The only difference is a couple of extra floors and the facade.
I think.
KJBrissy April 3rd, 2007, 06:35 AM All operational works applications have been approved. This probably means they have started construction. We're now just waiting for the revised version of the tower to be approved.
WestEnderBender April 3rd, 2007, 11:05 AM Thanks KJ, exciting stuff! Would it be correct to assume that both 400 George and Northbridge will be constructed simultaneously? I still can't help but think what a great site that could've been for one big tower, rather than two. Still, I'm not complaining, just pondering...
KJBrissy April 5th, 2007, 01:27 AM In Prime site today:
Giant city towers ready to rise
5 April 2007 -The Courier-Mail
TWO major Brisbane central business district developments made a leap forward yesterday with work starting on Austcorp's Vision tower and Ross Nielson Properties' Northbridge building.
A backhoe moved on to the Vision site yesterday for a symbolic start to the demolition of buildings between Mary and Margaret streets. Excavation should start after Easter.
Austcorp chief executive officer Trevor Chappell also signed a construction contract with Grocon's Daniel Grollo on the site yesterday.
Mr Chappell said Austcorp had never made a loss on a project and had wanted to ensure everything was in place to ensure Vision was not the first to earn that title.
The 72-storey tower will reach 287m into the Brisbane skyline.
It is Grocon's second development in Queensland after announcing last month it would build the Soul residential tower on the Gold Coast.
Mr Grollo said yesterday both were good projects to help the company make inroads into Queensland.
He said the group had earned its reputation in southern states for building high profile, large and complex buildings.
Hutchinson Builders have started work on the Northbridge tower, at 32 Turbot Street. While smaller than Vision at 35-storeys its will also be a significant addition to the Brisbane commercial market at a time when vacancy levels are at an all time low.
Ross Nielson said yesterday the $270 million building would offer 34,500sq m of A-grade commercial space to the market on completion in early 2009.
Designed by Donovan Hill, it features a distinctive golden yellow facade.
A competition has also been launched for a sculptural centrepiece for the development by a Queensland artist.
It would be displayed within a pedestrian laneway which connects Turbot Street to the State Government's planned Tank Street Bridge.
KJBrissy April 6th, 2007, 01:39 AM From Tank Street:

KJBrissy April 26th, 2007, 04:18 AM Looks like they were hammering some piles in today.
WestEnderBender April 26th, 2007, 05:32 AM So, "U/C" then....
CULWULLA April 26th, 2007, 06:22 AM can you see a shovel? lol
ill change to uc.
now Australia has 2 uc over 150m.
BrizzyChris April 26th, 2007, 07:05 AM Wouldn't it be 3?
Skyline, 400 George St and this one? All in Brisbane.
CULWULLA April 27th, 2007, 12:03 AM forgot about 400 george. skyline has topped so i tend to scrub off list. Aspect in sydney is other one uc.
KJBrissy May 12th, 2007, 04:38 AM ^^And also Vision now!

KJBrissy August 2nd, 2007, 12:08 PM Core seems about 2m above ground level. Looks like they are waiting to get a tower crane from another site as they are still using the mobile crane.
BrisbaneROCKS August 9th, 2007, 03:11 AM Apparantly the first floor will have taken form within the next 7 days! That's incredible. This is my favourate building under construction at the moment (Vision isn't under construction until I see foundations). I'm also a little confused. Has Telstra actually purchased this building, or are they only leasing it? As they released a media release yesterday indicating the building was theirs.

MyFavco November 27th, 2007, 05:13 AM They are finishing off Lvl 1 at the moment - big pours. They've got the precast up along the 400 George boundary.
They seem to have heeps of space to use on the Tank St side - I initially thought that they were going to be land locked.
They barricades are up for the Tank St Bridge - this should cause a few arguments with site traffic.

Blackcaldera April 10th, 2008, 12:38 PM I was wondering if anyone know whether Northbridge is going for a Green Star Rating?
It will seem a bit strange if they don't; more so now that 400GS has got the 5* Design Rating.
DeejayT April 11th, 2008, 06:51 AM Would have been good if there was an alley way between them at the bottom
Has the lane way been scrapped? That was definitely my favourite part of this development!

Maroon Grown April 12th, 2008, 11:39 AM ^^ not sure hey! its real hard to tell right now because there is so much scaffold surrounding the site. it would be heavily used as the tank st bridge ends right next door at the supreme court
KJBrissy April 13th, 2008, 12:13 AM There is a big opening on the Tank Street side.
Ausilencer April 14th, 2008, 12:35 PM I can't be sure, but from what I can tell there is no laneway between them. The big opening on the Tank St side is for the loading docks of both buildings. But I don't think I'm confident enough about the laneway to lock that answer in eddie. (I haven't had a good look at these constructions for many months)
Blackcaldera April 15th, 2008, 01:34 AM I can't be sure, but from what I can tell there is no laneway between them. The big opening on the Tank St side is for the loading docks of both buildings. The lane is in fact under northbridge adjacent to the courthouse. It's a storey or two high.
So yes it is there. I will try and take a photo when I am around there later on today.
Blackcaldera April 16th, 2008, 12:36 PM http://i264.photobucket.com/albums/ii194/Blackcaldera/IMG_1824.jpg
r32_gts April 16th, 2008, 02:44 PM do you reckon that will become a lane? from the photo it is hard to tell whether it will be built out or not. is there any detailing in the GF slab or the slab soffit above that gives it away? the fire service suggests the space would likely be built out.
BrizzyChris April 16th, 2008, 03:13 PM If it is a laneway, it should have been made at least 2 storeys high. The way it is now seems so small and closed in.
KJBrissy April 17th, 2008, 02:07 AM It looks 2 storeys high to me? Look at the storeys above it. Less than half the height
BrizzyChris April 17th, 2008, 02:30 AM ^^
You serious? Looks to be 4m max in there.
BrisbaneROCKS April 17th, 2008, 03:39 AM take a better look. That's a 2 story high laneway. The fence isn't even half the height of the opening.
DeejayT April 17th, 2008, 05:58 AM Thank you for the pic Blackcaldera!
It is hard to tell, but in my opinion it isn't looking as open as the Northbridge plan suggests here:
http://i175.photobucket.com/albums/w127/djt99/tankstreetbridge.jpg
KJBrissy April 17th, 2008, 06:00 AM ^^Although that plan also implies that the Office Floorplate is open as well....which obviously it isn't!
DeejayT April 17th, 2008, 06:53 AM ^ really :) open in a sense that it is consistent with:
"A key feature of Northbridge will be a 70 metre pedestrian lane linking the Tank Street pedestrian bridge with Turbot Street. The 24-hour public walkway will be reminiscent of Little Collins Street in Melbourne with public seating, contemporary public art work and café's lining its side. The public art work will be integrated into the laneway in a consistent theme linking the Gallery of Modern Art with the North Quarter precinct. The laneway will become the key pedestrian link between Brisbane's cultural precinct and the CBD."
To me it will be more like a tunnel rather than a "laneway"
More information about the lane and pictures here http://www.northbridgecbd.com.au/design_lanewayConcept.htm
KJBrissy April 17th, 2008, 06:55 AM The ceilings look the right height when compared with the images they have put up there!
Blackcaldera April 17th, 2008, 07:24 AM Now that I have seen the images, it looks like it's going to be a big box with a hole through the bottom of it.
:)
Messed Up April 17th, 2008, 11:27 AM Its not a laneway. Its a dark dingy tunnel and any suggestion it will be like Little Collins is probably the wankiest bit of writing for a while.
BrisbaneROCKS April 18th, 2008, 12:38 AM What?? Who said anything about Little Collins? It's a lane that goes under a building. God some people can talk absolute tripe.
KJBrissy April 18th, 2008, 01:19 AM Read Post 122...a quote from the developer
Catherine April 18th, 2008, 04:40 AM Its not a laneway. Its a dark dingy tunnel and any suggestion it will be like Little Collins is probably the wankiest bit of writing for a while.
Agreed, the marketing genius who came up with that comparison should be proud of a brilliant work of fiction.
KJBrissy April 18th, 2008, 04:44 AM ^^Totally agree. It's more like a shopping centre with open ends!
Redress April 19th, 2008, 01:19 PM Still perhaps we should give it a chance. If the laneway or tunnel has the artwork and the food and cafes, then has the potential to be something worthwile. A dark dingy tunnel could be awesome if done well!
neilo63 April 20th, 2008, 07:24 AM Wow. In our bid to further our 'culture' we have lost all sense of how to achieve it; it evolves over time people! Creating cafe culture streets everywhere does not ooze sophistication... just the wank factor.
Ausilencer April 20th, 2008, 01:07 PM The lane is in fact under northbridge adjacent to the courthouse. It's a storey or two high.
So yes it is there. I will try and take a photo when I am around there later on today.
Ok yep, definitely a laneway/tunnel as part of Northbridge (tunnel if you ask me).
Sorry, I misunderstood the initial question - I thought someone was asking if there was a laneway *between* Northbridge and 400 George, which there is not. As is fairly clear from the images now, the laneway/tunnel is part of Northbridge and does not lie adjacent to 400 George. With the exception of where it adjoins the entrances to the loading docks for both buildings.
Blackcaldera April 21st, 2008, 01:18 PM It's a shame really, as when you see the size of the entrance to 400 George Street Northbridges' lower floors will just not compare.:tiasd:

BrisbaneROCKS June 25th, 2008, 02:00 AM Great snapshot but still far too many rather regretful 70s and 80s mismatched boxes in this side of the city. Northbridge, 400 George and 275 George will improve this view quite alot.
This shot also confirms we really do need to do something about Northbank. We're missing an entire sweep of the river bank.
brisbanite June 25th, 2008, 04:39 AM ^^To some that looks attractive.???
JayT June 25th, 2008, 06:23 AM I think it would be really hot if they did something with the riverside expressway instead of trying to hide it. I mean light it up somehow or attach pedestrian paths to it. How about lighting it the same way Victoria & Captain Cook bridges are lit - imagine one big line of white forming a baseline to the skyline.
Like it or not the Riverside Expressway has become a bit of a icon to Brisbane.
j
SEQ92 June 25th, 2008, 06:38 AM ^^ I agree. It is a real asset to Brisbane and is our identity.
I saw on TV once a proposal to grow vines around it or something to give a bit of nature to it.. it would be cool if that could happen. Hey it could look like the southbank arbour with that beautiful arch with natural shade.

KJBrissy August 11th, 2008, 01:58 AM ^^Still another third to go. It's going to dominate as much as Bris. Sq. from that angle!!
timmy- brissy August 11th, 2008, 03:20 PM Woah nice building.I had no idea they were building buildings on the other side of the cbd.
Muse August 13th, 2008, 05:08 AM Yes, they are "building buildings" everywhere!! It's the 70s for Brisbane all over again, only this time using better materials...and this new lot will just be fillers when the newer talls come in.
Fabian August 14th, 2008, 01:40 AM The majority of the newer talls will be on the eastern side of the CBD. Netherless 500 foot for this section of town is still going to be a standout.
Macca-GC August 14th, 2008, 03:35 AM I don't think it'll dominate as much as Brisbane Square. It isn't wide enough. Together with 400 George, it might though.
The cladding is racing up on this now.
brizboy August 15th, 2008, 04:13 AM Looking from Sandgate road @ Albion you can see these new towers slowly starting to dominate the wall of white concrete that was once the view from 4km away...
Blackcaldera August 18th, 2008, 12:03 PM I'm not too sure that those final colours of pink, orange & peach match the DA too much.
Either way these drawings should give you a better idea of the final intention.

notra August 19th, 2008, 01:44 AM Great post Blackcaldera - thanks. As for the colours looking disgusting, lets wait a bit. At this stage they at least look remarkable.
neilo63 August 19th, 2008, 04:39 AM I think the colours a cool, they certainly aren't offensive. Better than the green, blue and grey boxes we have popping up. I am however pretty disappointed that the screen detail has been made more linear and generic.
r32_gts August 20th, 2008, 02:12 PM hey im going to pitch a slogan to our mates who are liable for this...

over the top i know, but pink orange and peach? :ohno:
GMAC August 21st, 2008, 09:51 AM I think the colours are going to look really good when its all finished, it will contrast well against the uniformity of 400 George.

We have been quiet on this one, after it was all the rage:lol:. I suspect that this ones core is getting rather close to full height, maybe a couple of stories to go.
KJBrissy September 30th, 2008, 02:08 PM ^^I have now come to the conclusion that the facade is disgusting. The sun shades look cheap and do not redeem the pastals.
Danubis September 30th, 2008, 02:56 PM you came to that conclusion from that photo?? ^^
KJBrissy September 30th, 2008, 11:32 PM No. From seeing it in real life. I work nearby, however I don't have a camera at the moment to take any pics.
Blackcaldera October 1st, 2008, 12:27 PM I don't personally like the colours :ohno:, but as a piece of engineering these thing are pretty impressive beasts! :master:
I'll try and get some close ups later in the week.

dubaidubai04 October 1st, 2008, 12:48 PM I agree, I'm still not sure what to make of the facade on this one.
We could be pleasantly suprised when half clad..........just have to wait it out
Orfeo October 1st, 2008, 02:49 PM That shade structure looks disturbing. Perhaps not as much as the pastel panels - someone should be shot for that.
dubaidubai04 October 2nd, 2008, 12:09 AM ^^Brisbane architecture has been pretty bland in the past few years, actually to see something out of the ordinary like this tower is welcomed IMO
exocet October 2nd, 2008, 12:45 AM ^^Brisbane architecture has been pretty bland in the past few years, actually to see something out of the ordinary like this tower is welcomed IMO
I agree. I'll reserve my judgement until it's finished. The pastels and yellows will definitely stand out and I think will like it. However, I like Brisbane Square so some may say my judgement is flawed. :P
exocet October 2nd, 2008, 01:01 AM Double-post.
Brizer October 2nd, 2008, 01:09 AM brise-soleil = French: briser - to block; soleil - sun.
Made popular by architect Le Corbusier in the 1930s-40s.
Much used by architects in Australia such as Harry Seidler on whom Le Corbusier was a big influence.
In our climate they are a sensible feature.
Messed Up October 2nd, 2008, 12:14 PM I think this building may need to be fully complete and its facade will need to be viewed in full context of its surroundings before we can make a fair judgement on it. At this stage it may not look promising but when it is complete it may surprise us.
Ausilencer October 2nd, 2008, 01:34 PM I agree that we may have to wait until it's finished before making a judgment on this one - although I will say that I am growing uneasy about the facade.
exocet - I like Brisbane Square too! :-)
(plus, the views from it are amazing!)
Marty_ October 3rd, 2008, 05:19 PM Right on with everyone else regarding this. Happy to wait it out and see the tower when completed. Given the pathetically bland buildings that presently dominate Brisbane, I am very slow to discredit a building that's different or colourful.
I think it'll turn out ok.

They even look as though they work! :okay:
I just hope some poor b'stard living in Paddington doesn't have all these 'parabolic mirrors' pointing at them!
dubaidubai04 October 4th, 2008, 04:12 AM cheers for those,
looking quite nice indeed:cheers:, I just wonder how far these shade structures will continue up the building? To the top?
Malt October 4th, 2008, 10:40 AM I think they will look good. they do go all the way to the top.

Burden October 8th, 2008, 07:00 AM I don’t normally comment with the Brisbane updates, rather admire them actually, But what’s with that guy staring you down. Like a death stare of something!
MyFavco October 8th, 2008, 07:23 AM This change in system type must explain why the facade was sitting idel for some 4 weeks.
They latest facade panels install have the shading panels pre-attached. The earlier ones had only the cleats - they will have to come back with the shading panels later.
The facade install should rocket along now!
Orfeo October 8th, 2008, 09:02 AM Thanks for the update. This one is staring to get quite dominant in the view from the PA hospital.
scottsimmons80 October 8th, 2008, 01:00 PM This is really starting to look gross. It's a real shame, I thought it had a fair bit of promise based on the renders.

Give it some credit, will certainly offer a much needed change to the standard shabble and concrete facades that are scattered throughout the city. Too many people are in dislike of this building. I think it looks swarve - something different in the mix.

Oh how I agree. Lately I've been thinking that diversity is a good thing. Heck, I've even come to like some elements of the abominable Brisbane Square - I thought that would be impossible.
This one is not that bad, I am pleased to say. Actually, I find it original and rather interesting so far.
Messed Up October 9th, 2008, 12:40 PM It is certainly starting to create a talking point and getting some attention (which is a good thing). It will be interesting to see how it turns out. It certainly doesn't conform to the norm and isn't a generic glass or concrete box which will no doubt offend some people.
TOCC October 9th, 2008, 12:49 PM I think once the whole building is done the facade will look pretty decent, but at the moment it certainly looks pretty average
Blackcaldera October 9th, 2008, 01:19 PM I am more concerned about the entrance at ground level on Turbot Street.
If I said 'wall herded concrete cattle large", you'll get the idea... They have been constructing it over the last couple of weeks... and it does not look too good I'm afraid. :ohno:
When I get chance and some of the formwork has gone i'll try and post a photo.
BNE01 October 19th, 2008, 02:39 PM For some reason I could not get a copy of photos to load? Hate Flickr!

WestEnderBender October 20th, 2008, 02:46 AM This really is going to be a strange looking building (fruit tingle, anyone?). The photos do not do it justice, though.
Marty_ October 20th, 2008, 04:09 AM It doesn't look that bad in real life. Yes, it's different and unusual, but I find it kind of interesting.
lastresort October 20th, 2008, 07:56 AM Yeah, it is interesting. At the moment I certainly don't hate it, but I think it could have been better. I do wonder how it will age though, will this facade always be seen as 'interestng' or 'unique'? What will we think in say 5 - 10 years time?
JVogt October 20th, 2008, 04:00 PM I think it looks really interesting - and that's not a choice of word to disguise dislike :P I think it's very positive that people are doing different things.
Oriolus October 24th, 2008, 07:03 AM I didn't know this one had such a crazy facade. I like it though, especially in BNE01's pics with the sun shinning on it - reminds for of NAB at Docklands in Melbourne. I can't wait to see the other sides of the buildings totally covered by yellow shades. Good that its really different - theres the suspense of waiting to see whether it looks awesome, or totally shithouse. Not like the other ones - you know they're gunna look great, but they're much more generic.

TOCC October 24th, 2008, 07:30 AM i think this one will look pretty decent when all the facade is done
JayT October 24th, 2008, 07:33 AM I'm loving this one. So simple and its starting to look tall.
J:)
Fabian October 26th, 2008, 04:10 AM It's a true standout. Loving the orange panels.
Brissy4me October 26th, 2008, 01:30 PM It will look awesome at sunset.
Blackcaldera October 28th, 2008, 03:13 PM The Core must almost be at its limit.
CULWULLA October 28th, 2008, 10:54 PM yeah i think its topped. love the glass
CULWULLA October 29th, 2008, 01:26 AM looking at plans.
height of core/roof is 141m. or 154m above river.
beastjim November 2nd, 2008, 03:24 PM The building that is certainly racking up the attention for at least being interesting. However a number of you seemed to have changed from dislike to like. It does look great when the late sun hits it of an afternoon, a real shine off it.
From yesterday, 2nd November.
View from the Victoria Bridge, you can see the change that has actually occurred in the facade from the lower levels which will receive very little sunlight, to the higher parts that will see a lot of sunlight.

A closer look up at the skin of the building. Certainly is different no debating that:

CULWULLA November 3rd, 2008, 12:49 AM i love this bldgs facade.
Fabian November 3rd, 2008, 12:50 AM Even on an overcast day it gleams brightly :)
bribri November 3rd, 2008, 04:21 AM Some of the multi-couloured panels have lost their randomness in the upper levels on the front western side, up to 7 in a row for about 4 levels. Wonder if they will fix that up?
Brizer November 3rd, 2008, 05:17 AM I suspect they don't see that as a problem and actually intended to vary the randomness of the pattern by deliberately breaking the random pattern. Waddaya reckon?
Orfeo November 3rd, 2008, 05:26 AM Some of the multi-couloured panels have lost their randomness in the upper levels on the front western side, up to 7 in a row for about 4 levels. Wonder if they will fix that up?
i don't think they'll go back and change anything, but there are 2-3 panels missing from that section which if they attach bright panels wont make it seem so....benign. However, i kind of like the dot of normalcy amongst the multi-coloured background.
also liking the shadestructures; i'm hoping they will also be attached down the building too but getting the impression they've change their mind on the design. again.
MyFavco November 5th, 2008, 03:29 AM Can I question the Stats on this project? These numbers come from the DA Amendment approved by BCC Aug-08.
The building has 37 storeys (including ground) with the plantroom on Lvl 38(indicated as Lvl 31M below) and LMR on Lvl 39(Lvl 32).
The entry foyer is RL13.0 which means the top of the structure is 146.8m high (RL159.8) and spire 149.9m high (RL162.93).
Should the title be changed to: 37st/ 147m/ office ?
