One Small Step for Verdae....One Giant Step for Greenville. This place is going to be HUGE when all is said and done.

g-man: You may want to include a link to the Verdae Web Site and their Master Plan Documents just to put this all into perspective. This first phase may seem somewhat minor to most folks not familiar with this project.

No problem, man.

http://www.verdaedevelopment.com 10,000 residents, 15,000 employees, 1.5 billion dollars. That is what I call HUGE.

They have updated their website too. According to this Downtown Greenville is only a one-third the size of what Verdae will be: http://verdaedevelopment.com/about/verdae.php

Is it anywhere near DT Greenville?

Yes, here is a map of the area with Verdae and downtown on it: (the area in the center of the orange area in the center of the dotted square is where downtown Greenville is)

Wow g-man....you got a little excited! Thanks for posting this...looks great! So glad to see the amount of greenspace being kept. This will be a great tie-in with ICAR, Millenium Campus, South Financial Campus, The Point, etc....should give great jogging, cycling options.

I know Greenville plans to extend it's greenway system toward Lake Conestee to the South, any spurs of the greenway to connect downtown and Verdae?

Yes, definitely overboard on the excitement. I am also quite excited about this news, but we don't want to run people off by shoving Greenville in their face. The city will do the charming well enough on its own.

This is a very high quality beginning to the massive Verdae Development, and I can't wait to see the project grow over time. Eventually, it will be nice to see those high-rises popping up along the interstate. :enjoy:

What's wrong with being excited about something and showing off my city.

That actually is pretty impressive - should shut up any nay-sayers that don't think that Greenville doesn't have any quality infill developments beyond downtown.

that's pretty cool...sort of reminds me of the Innovista plans here. i like how SC's big three have huge (10,000+ residents) urban expansion plans (this, Innovista in Columbia, and revamped Naval Base in the Charleston area.)

other cities seem thrilled with a few new towers...we're getting new neighborhoods.

It really is pretty impressive, and the great thing is it's infill in the heart of the city, not suburban sprawl out in the Simpsonville area. It's the largest development, both in land area and dollars, ever announced in South Carolina. The fact that it borders numerous other large projects....ICAR, Millenium Campus, The Point, South Financial Campus makes it all the better. It's almost an entire new city.

Oh I didn't mean it that way at all, g-man. I am as excited as you, believe me. :) It was just the way it came across to others as being the best thing ever. My apology if I sounded harsh. Greenville is definitely on a roll!

There will be high-rises? :? Really? That's cool. Any renderings of them? :D

Yes, as part of the corporate office portion in later phases. The location of most of these is right at the corner of I-85 and Laurens Road. There were no actual renderings for the buildings, but on the original slideshow, there were photos of the type of office buildings the developers would like to see.

It is nice to see a quality master plan for a development that is 2 miles from downtown Greenville...I just hope that this project avoids the plastic look of a lot of master planned developments.

I know what you mean. Plantation, Fl. is about the most disgusting place I've ever seen.

I highly doubt this project will look plastic at all. This project has been years in the making and they have chosen the best developers they could find to build this. They thoroughly went through and examined at least 10 of the countries top builders before choosing one to build this first neighborhood. Also, in case you didn't know this will be a TND-traditional neighborhood development.

That's definitely a good thing. While I like New Urbanist developments, I much prefer TND's.
