I totally agree. Beside pag nagtayo ng Disneyland sa pinas, siguradong malulugi ang EK, kaya there is NOmore USE to have any Disneyland in pinas.

EK is ours, EK will rule. :)

kailangang mabuhay ang EK kailangang maging matagumpay ang EK... kung ang jollibee nilamapaso ang mcdo, dapat todasin ng EK and disneyland. kailangan nang kunin ang market sa indonesia at sa mga karatig bansa.

the last time I was here, Rio Grande was still being built. Are there any new attractions in the park? Sana nga mag-expand na sila soon with more exciting rides!

oh my!!! disneyland philippines?!?! ano kaya.... maybe not after yung jolibee scandal w/ the mascots. ano pa kaya kung sila mickey @ minnie.... dapat suffice ang tourism sa ganyang klaseng attraction. besides there's hong kong and tokyo.....sa akin, gusto ko ng theme park na di mukang carnival or fair. class all the way. pero thats just me.

have u ever been at EK? in case u havent been there, its a world class theme park. i compared it with the paramount canada's wonderland, and the only difference is, ours is about 30% smaller. all EK need is to add more attractions atleast every year, just like the canadian wonderland. if EK has to expand and buy more land around it then so be it. :)

haha, once upon a time, when our economy was better, the 2nd Disneyland in Asia was actually slated to be in Manila, not Hong Kong, or so rumors say.

March 9th, 2007, 05:45 AM
^^ Rumors are rumors.

Almost everyplace on earth have rumors of a Disney park...from the very likely (i.e., Disneyland Shanghai, Disneyland Singapore, or an Australian Disneyland)...to the generally plausible ones (i.e., a Disneyland somewhere in Mexico, a Disneyland somewhere in India, a Disneyland somewhere in Thailand, or a Disneyland somewhere in U.A.E. [think: Dubai])...to the slightly possible ones (i.e., Disneyland somewhere in Eastern Europe or Disneyland somewhere in the U.K.)...to the quite impossible ones (i.e. Disneyland somewhere in the Philippines)...to the totally bullshit ones (i.e. Disneyland somewhere in Pakistan).

Hong Kong has always been the most suitable location for Disney's second park in Asia.

How much is the entrance now at Enchanted Kingdom?

600php (all rides) weekend

if you have a Mercury Drug Suki Card
Buy 3 tickets + 1 free

I really think Enchanted Kingdom should expand

Siguro masmaganda kung magpapakahumble na si StarCity at mag joint-venture sila:lol:

First time kong pumunta ng Star City this summer and nashock talaga ako. Mostly indoor pala siya? I really felt claustrophobic lalo na that we arrived on opening time of May 1st so ang dami talagang nakapila sa ticket booths. At ang pagkaparanoid ko iniimagine na kung anong mangyayari kung may stampede du'n :ohno:

@xednanx: 600 na pala ang ride all you can weekends? So that means P500 na ang ride all you can on weekdays? This summer kasi, nag-abstain muna kami sa Enchanted Kingdom because we ought to try out something new (Star City). Nung 2006, P500 pa lang ang ride all you can weekends and P400 ang weekdays sa Enchanted Kingdom. Naku, nagmahal sila? Mabuti pa ang Splash Island. For more than 3 years, walang increase sa rates.

Sinabi mo pa.. Nung last punta ko dun two years ago tapos post-Christmas pa at paconcert pa yung radio station dun..

I hate starcity :ohno:
napakasikip... nakabubong... andaming nakapila...
siguro in a day, mga 4-6 rides lang masasakyan because ang dami daming tao
ansakit pa sa leeg ng roler coaster nila...

same na rin sa EK

Universal Studios to open Harry Potter theme park!
From Mugglenet.com (http://mugglenet.com)

Universal Studios and Warner Brothers made a joint announcement this evening from Leavesden Studios on the set of Dumbledore's Office to reveal that a Harry Potter theme park is currently in development. The image to the left is the first piece of concept art for the park: Hogsmeade Village.

Here's what we learned from Potter set designer Stuart Craig and a representative from Universal Studios (both of them hosted the big reveal):

- "The Wizarding World of Harry Potter at Universal Orlando Resort"
- Announcement was made live via internet at 12:01 AM EST today to select media, including MuggleNet.
- Areas of park to include Hogsmeade, Hogwarts Castle, and the Forbidden Forest.
- 20 engineers working on project.
- Universal came to WB looking for authenticity.
- Potter park to be built in "Islands of Adventure" area of Universal.
- Stuart wants to "take his grandchildren" to the park.
- Opening early 2010.
- Universal's Potter website to be available at this link soon.
- JK Rowling has been involved "since the very beginning" of the project. Also "supportive and encouraging."
- Stuart thinks that the park will be better off in the United States.
- Have been in design "for at least a year and a half."
- "Important that the theme park represents the entire saga from Book 1 to Book 7"

In a rather cute way to end the announcement, the Universal representative asks Stuart Craig, "Now where's Dumbledore?" Stuart paused for a moment, looked around the office, and replied, "He was just here."

That is true Lili, in the first photo, the gap is only four to five feet if two people that are about 6-foot tall ride on opposing coasters. On the "Ice Coaster" (blue color) there's a section of the ride that looks like you're about to hit a wall! The "Fire Coaster" (red color) has more loops while the other coaster has more twists and "cobra rolls."

Star City is owned and managed by the Elizaldes, who also own radio stations (DZRH in Manila, DYRC and DYBU in Cebu, etc.), as well as Aliw theater. The group is also the organizer of the yearly Aliwan festival (contest of different regional festivals). They lease the property from CCP.

Universal Studios theme park soon to rise in RP
By Zinnia De La Peña
Monday, April 7, 2008

The arrival of a Universal Studios theme park in the Philippines is creating a huge buzz after the Genting Berhad Group secured the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corp.(Pagcor)’s nod for its proposed project within the Las Vegas-like Bagong Nayong Pilipino-Manila Bay Integrated Tourism City.

Pagcor chairman and chief executive officer Efraim Genuino said the Genting Group has committed to develop 35 hectares of the 90-hectare prime reclaimed land facing Manila Bay into a world-class tourist destination.

Genuino said the Genting Berhad Group is planning to invest $3 billion in the Manila Bay Integrated City, the Philippines’ biggest tourism development project.

The Genting Berhad Group owns the Genting Highlands Resort in Malaysia and holds the exclusive development rights of film giant Universal Studios in Asia. It has teamed up with its subsidiary Star Cruises and Alliance Global Inc., the listed investment holding firm of retail tycoon Andrew Tan, for its proposed project in the $15-20 billion casino resort complex along Manila Bay.

Genuino said the Genting Berhard Group’s proposal includes the development of leisure and entertainment facilities including a theme park, state-of-the-art theaters, amusement and cultural centers, retail and gaming center and hotels.

Universal Studio’s movie-theme Hollywood park has 13 attractions based on movies including Shrek, Jurassic Park and The Terminator. Excluding its restaurants and theaters, the theme park alone draws about four million visitors a year.

Besides Hollywood, Universal Studios has other parks in Orlando, Barcelona and Osaka, Japan.

Another investor group, Aruze Corp. of Japan is planning to put up an integrated resort featuring a hotel with 2,000 standard rooms and 300 VIP suites; a major oceanarium targeted to be the world’s largest; theaters, a sports arena, a Holy museum and a giant ferris wheel similar to the London Eye to be known as the Manila Eye.

The Aruze Group is likewise infusing $3 billion in capital for the development of 40 hectares of land in the Manila Bay Integrated City.

Genuino said Aruze, a leading gaming machine maker known for its ties with the popular Wynn Resorts in Las Vegas and Macau, may start development of its project in the second quarter this year which may take two years to complete.

Other groups whose project concepts have been approved by Pagcor include Bloomburry Investments Ltd. of Australia which will develop 15 hectares of the reclaimed prime land, and the SM Investments Corp. (SMIC).

Bloomburry plans to build a hotel, sports arena and other tourist attractions.

Genuino said SMIC has yet to hatch a plan for the Manila Bay Integrated City but said this would be a unique concept.

Tessie Sy, SMIC vice-chair, said that aside from developments within the Mall of Asia complex along Roxas Boulevard, the company may work on something in the future to further promote the tourism estate.

SMIC, together with international hotel firms Carlson Hotels Asia Pacific and Accor will develop and manage a 350-room hotel in SM Bay City, which will be located near the SMX Convention Center.

Meantime, two administration congressmen supported yesterday the Integrated Tourism City, saying the nation should rake in billions in potential income from the project instead of growing grass on reclaimed land.

“We also need jobs. We have 430,000 new college graduates a year, but not all can be absorbed by existing companies,” Palawan Rep. Antonio Alvarez, House trade and industry committee chairman, said in the midst of reports that Catholic bishops are opposing the plan.

Manila Rep. Amado Bagatsing said he would prefer “that we grow money instead of grass on reclaimed land in Manila Bay.”

Alvarez said the Pagcor project would put the country in a position to catch a portion of China’s increasing spending on gambling.

“Due to China’s growing affluence, its 1.3 billion people are spending $70 billion in gambling bets a year, according to one estimate,” he said.

He said the gambling revenues of Macau, a Chinese territory, increased by 47 percent to $10.34 billion last year and have exceeded those of Las Vegas.

He said the Pagcor project could also prevent rich Filipinos from going to Macau or Las Vegas and would allow them to “just spend their money here.” - With Jess Diaz

anonymous filipino is correct. The first Universal Studios theme park in Southeast Asia is currently being built already in Singapore as part of the Resorts World at Sentosa where Genting is also a major investor. Part of the agreement was not to build a Universal Studios park in Southeast Asia within 10 years of operation I think. Universal Studios parks are also being built in South Korea and Dubai.

If you visit the Singapore forum there are construction pictures already.

Gloria’s FantasyLand

The biggest theme park outside of Metro Manila will also be constructed in Dapitan City. Gloria’s FantasyLand will be composed of 35 rides comparable to the Disneyland theme parks.

OLD WESTERN TRAIN

* An 18-seater mini train powered by a two-seater diesel locomotive prime mover that pulls the train in an existing mini forest area of FantasyLand.

MIDI FLUME RIDE

* A small version of Enchanted’s LOG JAM, the ride is likewise located inside the mini forest of the park. The midi flume was placed under old tress of the park so as to create a riverwild/forest ride atmoshere. This is a bit bigger than the river ride of Festival Malls’ Pixie Forest.

MINI COASTER RIDE

* Comparable to Roller skate ride of Enchanted Kingdom. It is also located in the area of the MIDI FLUME RIDE.

FLYING BALLS WHEEL RIDE

http://buklodsadapitan.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/10/ride_flyingballs.jpg
* A kiddie ride that functions like a Ferry’s wheel. It has six attractive ball-designed gondolas.

TEA CUPS RIDE / CHOCO CUPS

* Another exciting rides for kids. The ride is composed of six giant tea cups/choco cups rotating simulateously with its huge circular 9-meter metal base.

WONDER FLIGHT

* Made up of 8 fiberglass gondolas designed like the air balloon ride. It has a circular base of 8 meters.

TELECOMBAT RIDE

* A 24-seater / 12-gondola ride, a modern version of the famous octopus ride. It has a circular base of 12 meters.

CAROUSEL RIDE

* A design of mix animals, put together in one rotating base with its own music.

HORSE CAROUSEL RIDE

* An all horse carousel ride for kids and adult.

BUMPER CAR RIDE

* Ten (10) exciting electric bumper cars, housed inside a 12 meter
x 18 meter covered area with turbo lightings.

GIANT ROLLER COASTER

* A huge 20 meters x 47 meters based ride with a maximum speed of 40 miles per hour. This ride can accommodate 20 passengers at a time. An Italian made Pinfari ride named Zyclone.

APOLLO RIDE

* Unlike in Houston, this has no problem because it stays on the ground. It however gives the riders an illusion of being in the spaceship while inside this ride.

SWINGER RIDE

* A 32-seater circular ride with exciting light decorations. This ride has a 14 meter rotating base area covered by a fiberglass canopy.

PIRATE SHIP

* In other theme parks this is called GALLEON SHIP or ANCHORS AWAY ride. A 32- seater exciting ride with an imposing 30 meter high A-frame.

HAPPY JOURNEY RIDE

http://buklodsadapitan.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/10/ride_happyjourney-300x173.jpg
* An interactive ride. This is the first of its kind in the Philippines. The six electric powered cars is equipped with 2 laser guns for each car. There are 8 fiberglass animal figures made for targets.

FIGHT SHARK RIDE

* Likewise a first in the country, another interactive ride with 12 boats equipped with 2 water guns per boat. This ride can accommodate 24 shooters at a time.

HORROR WALK

* A place for suspense and thrill seekers. This house is designed by the group of Tony Tuviera of TAPE and APT Productions. APT Productions is the producers of the successful first Filipino animated movie URDUJA.

FERRY’S WHEEL

* The park will not be complete without this ride.

GO KART RACE CIRCUIT

* 10 GO KART racing units in an exciting and challenging race course.

Disneyland Manila is coming! ...well technically... Disneyland Bulacan is coming... it's rumored that Disney bought a piece of the bulacan mountain (w/c is somewhere near SJDM) a looong time ago to develop the popular theme park. rumor has it that the land was bought way before HK Disneyland was developed... Secretly, a Macau-like developement is under construction in Luzon (hulaan niyo nalang kung saan! ) . The developers are coy about it and prefers not to disclose details to the media as it could be an open feast for politicians who might want to derail it... YAY or NAY?

Davao City soon to have a wakeboard park

February 9, 2009 by Taga Mindanao

I simply couldn’t contain my utter excitement when I found out about this yesterday - and via Facebook, no less. Apparently, Davao City will soon have a wakeboard park! Construction of the Davao Wakeboard Park is allegedly underway and it’s set to be completed on April 2009. The grand opening of this new Davao City tourist attraction is slated for May 2009. Just in time for the tail end of summer 2009! As a certified water sports aficionado, I simply cannot wait to visit this complex soon!

For the uninitiated, wakeboarding is a surface water sport wherein a person uses a wakeboard (this one’s smaller than a surfboard but a little bit bigger than a skateboard) over the surface of a body of water. This sport was reportedly developed via a combination of water skiing, surfing and snowboarding techniques.

http://img178.imageshack.us/img178/7917/davaowakeboardparkxx7.jpg (http://imageshack.us)

Based on the vicinity map found on this page (which I also got from the DWP Facebook page), the Davao Wakeboard Park will be located somewhere near Tugbok and Mintal (which is roughly 20 minutes away from Ulas, Davao City and 10 minutes from Calinan)

Enchanted Kingdom eyes viable expansion in Cebu
Updated March 09, 2009 12:00 AM

CEBU, Philippines - Considering the huge potential tourism market in Cebu, Enchanted Kingdom is looking at a medium for a long-term prospect of investing in the area.

In an interview with Enchanted Kingdom chairman and president Mario O. Mamon, he shared that Cebu is a growth area that their company has long been looking at for possible expansions.

Mamon said that Cebu has the potential to draw in crowd for the entertainment and recreation industry that Enchanted Kingdom is serving because of its location.

“Cebu is the second international gateway of the country and it’s in fact the number one tourism destination and with its higher tourism potential, it seems to be insulated from the other problems of the country so we will truly consider Cebu as Enchanted Kingdom’s another area of expansion. It is the foremost choice in mind if ever we deicide to go South,” said Mamon.

He said that this will be considered a medium to long term plan but with the current financial crisis, Mamon said that participating in the recently concluded 5th Vis-Min Travel and Lifestyle Expo is the nearest they can go to explore the Cebu market.

Enchanted Kingdom was one of the 115 exhibitors in the show and Mamon said that this is their way of bringing more people to the park especially the market in the Visayas and Mindanao areas.

In an interview, Mamon shared that because Enchanted Kingdom caters to different markets such as the corporate groups, they are not sparred by the negative current global economic crisis.

“We have clients from the manufacturing and marketing groups and since most of these firms have laid off workers to cut on their costs, they are also cutting on expenditure on extra trips and activities on leisure and entertainment we are also affected,” said Mamon.

However, despite noting a slowdown of consumer spending, Mamon said that they are now slowly looking at a resurgence of guests in the park which started December of last year and is extending until now.

“With the different measures and events that we offer at the park, we have slowly attracted a wide spectrum of the market and this has balanced the business. Last year, we have faired marginally better than last 2007’s performance and this has been impressive because the turn around was made in December,” he said.

He said that this year, Enchanted Kingdom is looking at hitting a one million visitor mark despite the crisis.

And that they are looking forward to extending the stay of their visitors from the usual one day trip to a week stay by providing more facilities that guests can enjoy.

Mamon said that this plan is still a work in progress and they have held this off because of the financial crisis.

Recently, Enchanted Kingdom launched new facilities which include an event’s venue called Eldar’s Tent which holds the park’s big events, the horror SRRX!!! Experience which is a tie up with Regal Entertainment and the new 4D theatre that will be launched later this March.

Mamon, who is also the president of the Laguna Chamber of Commerce, said that the country’s entertainment industry continues to also thrive together with the growth of the tourism industry.

“During these times of crisis that we are experiencing, the tourism industry will serve as good buffer so if we can get our acts together, we can help make the tourism industry as one of the country’s strong prime movers,” said Mamon.— Rhia de Pablo (THE FREEMAN)

Manila Ocean Park eyes Visayas Mindanao market (http://http://www.philstar.com/Article.aspx?articleId=447065&publicationSubCategoryId=108)
Updated March 10, 2009 12:00 AM

CEBU, Philippines – After a year of operations, the country’s first world-class marine themed park, Manila Ocean Park, is now starting to make its presence felt in the huge Visayas and Mindanao market to further boost its growing clientele base.

Manila Ocean Park was among the many Manila-based tourism stakeholders that participated in the recently concluded 5th Vis-Min Travel and Lifestyle Show held at the SM City Cebu that ran for three days.

In an interview with Jerlyn M. Mapile, an account executive from the corporate marketing of Manila Ocean Park, she said that their recent move to penetrate VisMin is in line with their company’s vision to further promote the themed park to the rest of the Filipino populace.

Manila Ocean Park adopts a fusion concept as it brings together an oceanarium, a mall, a restaurant row, hotel, swimming lagoons and multi-purpose function facilities under one complex.

Currently, it houses the first and largest aquarium facility in the country with an oceanarium and a reef simulation lagoon of seawater that features an assortment of colorful fishes and invertebrates that are indigenous to the Philippines and in Southeast Asia.

Mapile said that the Manila Ocean Park is doing extremely well for the first year of its operation and on a daily average, they get around 20, 000 visitors.

She said that the Manila Ocean Park is positioning itself as an educational and corporate tourism destination so it aims to tap into the huge MICE (meetings, incentives, conference and exhibition) market as well as the thriving educational tours segment.

She added that this year, they are also looking at increasing their market base from Visayas and Mindanao so they have partnered with a Korean travel company Island Resort Club Tour Services, Inc. which will assist them in marketing the park in the Vis-Min regions.

“We are now open for corporations, travel agencies and students but these are usually from the vicinity of Luzon so we partnered with IRC to help us wholesale to the huge Vis-Min market,” said Mapile.

Currently, Manila Ocean Park’s hotel property called as H2O Hotel is being constructed within the park and this is targeted to be opened on August of this year.

The facility will have 147 rooms and it is expected to be a five star accommodation because the company is eyeing it to become another prime hotel destination in the country, said Mapile.

“Marketing Manila Ocean Park will not be difficult because it is something new and people will likely want to come and experience what it has to offer. So far we have already established ourselves in the global market because we have linkages in Spain, Taiwan, Japan, Turkey, Singapore, Hong Kong and Korea. Volume-wise we already have a huge international client-base but we are still continuously developing the market in Vis-Min,” said Robert Choi the CEO and president of Island Resort Club Tour Services, Incorporated.

He said that right now they are still in the introductory phase of their promotion efforts in the Vis-Min market.

“We are eyeing to establish partnerships in the Vis-Min market from travel agents, domestic airlines to shipping and so far we have started gathering a lot of inquiries from different agencies. We are aggressive despite the current crisis because we know the situation will be temporary so we continue to focus on maintaining the volume,” said Choi.

The Manila Ocean Park is a joint undertaking of Singaporean and Malaysian investors and it is a subsidiary of the Singapore registered company China Oceanis Pte Ltd., one of the China Oceanis Group of Companies with a core business in designing, developing and operation and installation of public aquaria.— Rhia de Pablo

Theme park to rise in Manila Zoo
MANILA Mayor Alfredo Lim yesterday announced that a new theme park complete with rides will be built at the Manila Zoo complex in Quirino Avenue, Malate.

Lim instructed the chief of parks and recreation bureau, Deng Manimbo, to accompany the builder, the group of Noriyuki Okamoto, president of the Okamoto Company, to the site.

Okamoto earlier paid a courtesy call on Lim to present the plan.

The mayor entertained the plan since the city government will not be spending a single centavo for the park at the 4,000 square meter property.

The park will be operational before the end of the year.

Lim said the admission fees to be collected will be used for the rehabilitation of the other parts of the zoo.

The theme park will not only cater to those who can afford the entrance fee as Lim will set a special day where poor children of Manila can be allowed entry free of charge. Jerry S. Tan

Hong Kong's Ocean Park is a a theme park with rides and marine animals.

Manila's Ocean Park is a theme park with tropical marine life as its theme.

If the new theme park at the Manila Zoo would provide better living conditions for the animals therein and upgrade the facilities to international standards then I'm all for it. The Manila Zoo is in need of a major renewal. This article says the rides would be confined at the 4,000 sqm parking lot adjacent to the zoo.

Here's a more detailed article...

Modern zoo and theme park planned for Manila

MANILA, Philippines — If things work out as planned, Manila will soon have a new and modern zoo and theme park at no cost to the city government.

Mayor Alfredo S. Lim said he has directed parks and recreation bureau chief Deng Manimbo to thresh out the details of the plan with Okamoto Company, Ltd., which is said to have been building theme parks in various parts of Japan.

Under the agreement, the Japanese group will be putting up a park complete with rides on the 4,000 square-meter lot fronting the Manila Zoological and Botanical Garden and half of the revenue to be generated from admission fees will go to the city.

Manimbo said in a press statement that the city’s share will be used to finance the needs of the Manila Zoo, including whatever rehabilitation has to be done there.

Lim hoped the new park would be open to the public before the yearend.

As planned, Lim said, a particular day of the week will be designated for free admission for the poor residents of Manila t"o give the less privileged a chance to experience the new recreational park without any expense on their part."

“Senior citizens will also be entitled to the discounts due them under the law," Lim said.

Part of the plan is to have a footbridge built to connect the new park to the adjacent Paraiso ng Batang Maynila, which will also be converted into a modernized park.

A ride with an overview of the entire park and the zoo will also be put in place to provide the visitors with an idea of what’s in store inside.

Lim said the theme park will bear a new name but he assured the public that the words “Manila Zoo" will be retained. - GMANews.TV

Fish are sensitive to vibrations. Sound waves travel faster in a liquid medium since the molecules are more tightly packed than in a gaseous medium. Seals, dolphins, pandas are mammals. In the panda dens, visitors are advised to hush their voices. HK Ocean Park also has an aviary. I agree that at 870,000 sqm; HK Ocean Park has a lot of room to dissipate the sound waves. Those rides should really be confined outside of the zoo and even then the type of rides should be chosen so that they generate the least noise.

15 hotels to open this year (http://http://www.manilastandardtoday.com/?page=news4_mar23_2009)
By Roderick T. dela Cruz

FIFTEEN new hotels and resorts offering 2,000 rooms will open this year despite the economic downturn, the Tourism Department says.

The new properties are worth P20 billion, and they will be employing 3,000 workers, the department says.

It says some of these new properties have already opened, and they include 28 cluster villas under the Amanpulo Resorts, which owns Sugihara Villa Resort, Vauban Villa Resort, Salamanca Villa Resort, Almonavides Villa Resort, La Galice Villa Resort, Kapangyarihan Villa Resort, and La Pucelle Villa Resort.

Rates at the Amanpulo properties start at $1,150 a night.

Shangri La’s Boracay Resort & Spa, with 219 rooms, opened to guests on March 2 with daily rates of P20,500.

Discovery Bay Misibis on Cagraray Island, Albay, with 38 villas, also opened early this year with room rates starting at $305 a night.

The 75-room Park Bed and Breakfast Hotel and Restaurant in Pasay City, which is managed by Legend Hotels International Corp., has also opened, and its rates start at P1,500 a night.

The 50-room Microtel Inn and Suites in Puerto Princesa opened early this year, and it offers a daily rate of P3,800.

The largest hotel in Cebu, the 556-room Imperial Palace Waterpark Resort, will open on May 20, although it has yet to announce its room rates, the department says.

It says more hotels and resorts are opening in the second half of the year, including the 232-room Oakwood Premier Manila in Ortigas Center, which opens its doors to guests in the third quarter. The room rates at its sister facility, the Oakwood Makati, start at P10,000 a night.

The 100-room Picasso Serviced Residences in Salcedo Village, Makati, is expected to be completed by Ardent Development Corp. by the second half.

Also opening in the second half are two luxury hotels near the airport in Manila and beside the Villamor Championship Golf Course.

The Newport Marriott Hotel will have 365 guest rooms, and Maxims Hotel 170 suites.

The P500-million Silang Wakeboard Park is rising up on a 12-hectare plot of land in Silang, Cavite, and it’s expected to open by August.

The Manila Ocean Park in Rizal Park is building extra facilities including a boutique hotel.

The Tourism Department is also processing an application from Bella Roca Island Resort and Spa in Marinduque.

Tourism Secretary Ace Durano says these new investments in tourism-related facilities and establishments are expected to add more than 2,000 new accommodation rooms and generate 3,000 jobs.

“With this initial list of investments, the country is assured of a vibrant tourism industry with bigger revenue and more jobs,” Durano said.

The new hotels and resorts will pay no taxes for four to six years and may import capital equipment tax-free if they are registered with the Board of Investments, according to Victoria Jasmin, director of the Office of Tourism Standards.

Meanwhile, the Tourism Bill is expected to result in more investment and create more tourism zones once it is signed into law.

The Senate and the House’s bicameral conference committee has approved the bill, which will give the Tourism Department powers beyond its marketing functions.

^^ A zoo and theme park does go together. Case in point, Busch Gardens in Tampa, FL and The Animal Kingdom at DisneyWorld in Orlando, FL. Granted that these nature reserves have vast lands alloted for their animals to roam around freely (cageless animal exhibiiton areas), but still within close proximity to the theme park rides.

^^ Is that relatively new? Haven't heard of it before. The only wakeboarding park in the Philippines that I know is in Camarines Sur. It's good to know that there are other parks like that in other parts of the country.

Mindanao 1st wakeboard park to open in Davao soon
Monday, December 14, 2009

MINDANAO's first wakeboard park is now undergoing finishing touches and will open its gates soon, following the approval of its move for reclassification by the City Council.

JJ Atencio, 8990 Housing Development Corporation president, told Sun.Star Davao that they are now testing the cables of the sports facility.

For updates from around the country, follow Sun.Star on Twitter

Dubbed as Deca Wakeboard Park, the multimillion-project is the first of its kind outside Luzon.

"There are no more impediments to the project, and we hope to open really soon," Atencio said.

A couple of months ago, a hullabaloo was raised following the revelation the City Council has not yet approved the reclassification of the property being developed by 8990 into a wakeboard park.

The area is classified as residential.

"But the local government unit took it upon themselves for an approval to come in quickly. We showed them what our objective is and they saw that it is good for the city," Atencio said. "The project will definitely be a big boost to local and foreign tourists."

To coincide with the opening of the sports and recreational facility, a group of Korean investors are also putting up a Korean wakeboard school for the influx of Korean tourists who will try the sport.

"The revenues that will be generated by this project will also help the city," Atencio said. "It is what the Vice Mayor and our councilors saw in the project that they immediately passed the reclassification."

The Deca Wakeboard Park is complemented by the Deca Homes Resort and Residences, a residential project that aims to build a resort community at an affordable price.

Fantasyland: Gloria de Dapitan

I have to admit, when Dakak gave us free tickets to Fantasyland located in the Dapitan town proper, I thought it was one of those "peryas" found in most provincial capitals. I thought it would be something like Boom na Boom. But since the tickets were free, and we wanted to do something else, we rode on a shuttle to Fantasyland in Gloria de Dapitan after a hearty buffet dinner. We were already amazed entering the gates of Gloria De Dapitan, as shown in my previous post. We were dropped off in front of the entrance of Fantasyland. This was the facade that greeted us.

http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_r4tA-rTliog/SzcIcRQni3I/AAAAAAAADgo/ucjdeYfDTn4/s1600/Fantasyland-7.jpg

To our surprise, Fantasyland wasn't any come-and-go and carnival. It was more like Enchanted Kingdom. The tickets sold for P250 I think, for unlimited rides, which was a steal I thought. There was a promenade at the entrance that had several shops, even a Mac Store! There was a haunted house near the entrance that was still undergoing construction. It looked so good, I wanted to go inside.

http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_r4tA-rTliog/SzcIcKt1i8I/AAAAAAAADgg/Guax8vLpjvE/s1600/Fantasyland-8.jpg

There was a stage and an open area for events. A band was setting up at this time. It had just rained, so the maintenance people were sweeping off the rainwater.

http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_r4tA-rTliog/SzcIb8FbygI/AAAAAAAADgY/QYs136CSQAo/s1600/Fantasyland-9.jpg

Fantasyland had a lot of rides. There was the staple rollercoaster, that had single cars - meaning, one car was only big enough for one person. Though not as thrilling, this ride would be perfect for kids who want to experience the thrill of a rollercoaster ride.

http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_r4tA-rTliog/SzcIQ-P9gOI/AAAAAAAADgI/Gh3eXf6ZRSE/s1600/Fantasyland-13.jpg

There was also the log jam ride. Although it was a short ride, it was still a hit among the visitors who get wet after the splash.

http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_r4tA-rTliog/SzcIQtkImFI/AAAAAAAADgA/A_P-tWwP6CI/s1600/Fantasyland-14.jpg

There was also a space ship simulator. Most of the other rides are common already for any carnival, like the Galleon, a Swing Ride, Bump Cars, Carousels, etc. There was also a section for younger kids.

http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_r4tA-rTliog/SzcIQXQVCsI/AAAAAAAADf4/NPze4XC5AEc/s1600/Fantasyland-15.jpg

The ticket also listed a ride called Jump Bed, which intrigued me. We then realized that it was the trampoline. You get into rubber bands and tumble yourself as you jump high up. It was fun but tiring. I was able to make several somersaults.

http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_r4tA-rTliog/SzcIbdZDs8I/AAAAAAAADgQ/gPqUS5FkmZw/s1600/Fantasyland-12.jpg

All in all, Fantasyland really felt like a mini-Enchanted Kingdom. There were photo booths all around, souvenir shops, food stalls and all of them maintained really well. You can even take a picture with princes and princesses.

http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_r4tA-rTliog/SzcIQDENIPI/AAAAAAAADfw/1R9oGtPMGOs/s1600/Fantasyland-17.jpg

Fantasyland was indeed a pleasant surprise. I was expecting our pictures to look nostalgic, think provincial carnival, with old rides. Fantasyland was a modern carnival on the contrary, very well maintained. It will surely be a tourism drawer, now that the carnival is fully operational.

http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_r4tA-rTliog/SzcIP4LMp-I/AAAAAAAADfo/fZA-Sq_pCiU/s1600/Fantasyland-16.jpg

This ends my posts on Dapitan, the trip that was full of surprises. I commend the local government of Dapitan for investing on tourism facilities. I am assuming there are more attractions in Dapitan and further down in Dipolog. I just can't wait to go back and explore more.

Enchanted Kingdom celebrates 15 years of magic

Enchanted Kingdom’s 15th anniversary logo

MANILA, Philippines - The country’s first and only world-class theme park is celebrating 15 years of magic.

It all started with a pioneering vision — to bring the unique “theme park experience” to the Philippines where guests of all ages can momentarily transport themselves to a world of fun, make-believe and enchantment — leaving real-world worries behind.

Enchanted Kingdom’s grand opening 15 years ago marked a major milestone in the local leisure and amusement industry. It was and still remains to be the Philippines’ first and only world-class theme park.

Before EK, there was only a sprinkling of seasonal carnivals and fairs, all of which were not permanent and mostly mobile, and a few amusement parks around Metro Manila that were all small in scale. Enchanted Kingdom changed all of that in terms of quality, magnitude and execution.

With an exciting line-up of family thrill rides and attractions, charming kiddie playgrounds with beautiful landscaping, carnival staples such as video arcades and redemption games, unique food and souvenir shops coupled with non-stop entertainment, all of which were meticulously distributed in seven themed zones, there was nothing else like it in the country.

Now, 15 years after it first opened its doors to the public, Enchanted Kingdom, more than ever, is strongly positioned to maintain and reinforce its undisputed leadership in the local leisure and amusement industry.

It has consistently remained to be the “top of mind” choice for its loyal followers and habitués, young and old alike, local or overseas, as “the” leading venue for wholesome family leisure and entertainment.

Also, over the past three years, revitalized marketing strategies and efforts have led to a “renaissance” for Enchanted Kingdom as it increases its “mind share” not only from its perceived target markets but also beyond to a greater potential market.

“As Enchanted Kingdom approaches another milestone in its corporate existence — a decade and a half of magic — we are poised to continue to break records. We shall continue to strive to exceed our guests’ expectations, not only through new, innovative and exciting rides and attractions and blockbuster entertainment, but also through superlative guest service that surely will result in positive and lifetime magical experiences,” says Cesar Mario Mamon, EK chairman and president.

15th anniversary highlights

EK’s EKstreme Tower Ride. Towering 150 feet into the sky (10 feet for every year of EK’s existence), this spine-tingling thrill ride will surely bring an adrenaline rush to all those who dare take the plunge.

This spanking brand-new ride manufactured to the highest safety standards in the United States, is another Philippine first.

Happy Feet: Mumble’s Wild Ride. The Rialto Motion Simulator Theater at the Brooklyn Zone of EK is a park original that has seen a number of film features over the years.

Coming on the heels of a successful run with the motion picture-based feature, Speed Racer, comes Happy Feet: Mumble’s Wild Ride. This new film feature is based on “Happy Feet,” the award-winning animated motion picture from Warner Bros. and Village Roadshow Inc.

First Enchanted Kingdom Asian Sky Wizardry Competition. Weekend fireworks displays and annual competitions have been regular fare at Enchanted Kingdom. ^^15 YEARS and still no rival! I think a theme park of similar quality could be built in Pampanga or Bulacan along NLEX/SCTEX. More roller coasters and thrilling rides! :)

how i wish magka-disney na sa pinas! :)

EK grows leaps and towers

Santa ROSA, LAGUNA: The Enchanted Kingdom (EK) is truly a magical place.

Believe it or not, as Typhoon Juan loomed overhead two weeks ago, there was a rainbow that appeared over the country’s only world-class theme park. It was after all, Enchanted Kingdom’s 15th anniversary, and the skies looked kindly upon families and friends who braved cloudy skies to celebrate the milestone.

To make the day more memorable for the guests, EK launched a new heart-pumping, palm-sweating, hair-raising attraction called the EKstream Tower Ride. The first of its kind in the Philippines, the ride challenged daredevils to go up 150 feet in the air for 30 seconds only to drop down—safely—to ground level.

“It was the longest two seconds in my life!” screamed a guest who tried the tower ride. “What was really scary was not knowing when the drop down would happen. The view from up there was amazing though—seeing all the lights and the people getting smaller and smaller.”

Shared Cesar Mario Mamon, EK’s chairman and president, the ride is meant for adventurous teenagers, but apparently, because of all the excitement during the launch, even his wife, Cynthia Mamon, EK vice president for Sales, Marketing, Imagineering and Entertainment, tried the EK stream, not just once but several times.

Mamon added that the tower ride serves as the park’s symbol of success. At the very tip is is Eldar Wizard’s hat sitting on a crown that represents EK’s “towering” achievement. Its height of 150 ft., meanwhile, counts 10 ft. for every year of EK’s existence.

“We really have a handle on things now,” announced Mamon. “We’re seeing a steady business grow.
We’ve been through a roller coaster ride ourselves . . . but the more the business runs smoothly and efficiently, the more we can take care of our stake holders, especially our employees, and of course the more we can offer to our guests.”

More good news came when Mamon told Life & Times that he was recently elected as the first Asian and Filipino to be the third vice chairman of the International Association of Amusement Parks and Attractions.
His wife elaborated that by 2014, he would be the chairman of the worldwide organization.

The Mamons and the rest of EK’s staff have so much to celebrate on their 15th anniversary. That they literally weathered a super storm on the big day made the milestone even more meaningful for the,
“ We praise and thank God for this blessing of a good weather,” Mamon said. “We’re so grateful we didn’t disappoint everyone who came over.

SBC Kiteboard magazine contributor Craig Cunningham reports from the first ever Wind Or No Wind event at the Camsur Watersports Complex in the Philippines.

CWC (Camsur Watersports Complex) is the site for the first annual WONW (Wind or No Wind) event. Mauricio Abreu has put together this contest which will be like no other format before. The purpose of this event is to show the world what kiteboarding can be and that the top wakestyle riders in the world can throw down on the cable or a kite... doesn't really matter! Having the best full sized cable and a winch park with multiple System 2.0's here should help everyone progress quickly and push the level of kiteboarding to new standard!

A lot of the riders are already here and with the event starting on the 3'rd more will be rolling in shortly. Brandon Scheid and myself arrived this past weekend around the same time as James Boulding and Sam Light while Ruben Lenten, Aaron Hadlow and Tom Court were already here shredding! Morris and Moe showed up last night and scored a cable set under the lights! All in all this place is amazing, couldn't think of a better place to be and I think this event is going to really help show the world the potential of kiteboarding! Keep checking back to SBCkiteboard.com for more updates from WONW! The event kicks off tomorrow and this place is going to go off!

Update # 2

Today was the last day for arrivals at WONW. Pretty much everybody has showed up by now, Dre, Sleezy, Joby, Stone, Norman JR and Jamie Barrow came in the night before and got a chance to take some laps under the lights! When we woke a lot of riders were already on the water and it started to go down early! The Rebulic step up was back in action and was getting sessioned hard! In the afternoon the media crew jumped in the Governor L Ray's Chopper and buzzed around for a while filming some double sets on the main cable! Hammers were going down everywhere, you wouldn't have thought the level was going to be this high before the event even started! Were going to see some crazy stuff come out of this event!

http://www.sbckiteboard.com/uploads/Image/2011%20Newswire/peanut-gallery.jpg

During the afternoon the wind came up and a bunch of us were getting ready to kite! But the wind never completely filled in, so after a few hours of waiting for wind we all headed back to go shred some cable... how sick is that? At around 5 o'clock we had a kicker session that continued until the lights came on and hammers were being layed down! Some highlights were Hadlow's Moby Dick, Tom Courts Crow Mobe, Brandon Scheid and Jamie Burrow had some mega 7's and Norman Jr was showing that he gets to ride a fair amount of cable dropping some crazy hits! A few of the pro wakeboarders are here, Kim Jong Ill is absolutely killin' it! He's super impressed with the level of riding from the "kiteboarders" and has already been asking about learning to kite!

http://www.sbckiteboard.com/uploads/Image/2011%20Newswire/LF-boys---Brandon--Morris---Craig.jpg

After the kicker set it was time for another meal cable side. Doesn't get much better having dinner watching people having a set on the top cable in the world! Everybody was pretty drained after the first day of the event but some of the boys went out for a wakeskate set. Dre, Stone and Morris we putting together some fun lines under the lights while a few others went over to the skatepark here at CWC and flowed through that for a bit. Sleezy was showing the locals his park skills, it always fun to watch Jason skate! After the the late night skate session and riding all day long things were winding down and we all headed back to our cabins... we were going to need all our energy for Day #1 of Wind Or No Wind board jam!

Asia’s first underwater resort hotel to be built off Palawan :banana::banana::banana::banana:

By Emman Cena
Philippine Daily Inquirer
First Posted 19:26:00 01/14/2011

MANILA, Philippines—The country is all set to embrace a futuristic undersea project to rival those in Maldives, Dubai and Fiji, according to a Filipino team of developer and architects, which is set to build an underwater resort hotel in Palawan.

Dubbed as the Coral World Park, this multibillion-peso project will set the record as Asia’s first underwater resort development and the biggest undersea living in the world once the project is completed by 2013.

Picture this: You wake up to a picture perfect view of frivolously swimming manta rays and fishes or hold a meeting in a restaurant submerged in the pristine waters. Say what? All this isn’t science fiction according to an all-Filipino team behind the project.

Taking the helm is Singapore-based businessman Paul Moñozca, who is known for his advocacies of helping Filipino sports teams and the overseas remittance business. Partnering with Moñozca is renowned eco-architect Jose “Pinggoy” Mañosa, who will take charge of the architectural design of the Coral World Park.

“It’s high time we brought sustainable development underwater because there have been similar projects elsewhere in the world that have been proven successful,” Moñozca told Inquirer Property in an exclusive interview Wednesday.

He cited global warming and the rising water levels as factors that pushed him to look into the possibility of exploring the readiness of the country for this kind of revolutionary development.

Pegged at some $150 million, the undersea structure takes pride in its 24 undersea suites or pods called “Anemones,” which are submerged 60 feet below sea level with a fascinating 270-degree view of the sea. The 15-foot-high Anemones will be built by a US firm that specializes in submarines.

Several units of these Anemones will be open for public viewing at reasonable rates while majority are for ownership. Each 50-square-meter Anemone (the size of two-bedroom condo unit) can be customized per owner’s preference. It can be used as a private villa, a receiving or entertainment room that could cater to as many as 15 people.

Filipino ingenuity

How can one move from one pod/suite to another? The Coral World Park will be built with submarine technology. The mode of transport will be through glass bottom mini-submarines to be powered by the first mobile hydropower system, which generates up to 1 megawatt of electricity. This will use a patented water recycling and pressure chamber invented by an all-Filipino team of engineers, Moñozca said.

“The project will show to the world Filipino ingenuity as 80 percent of the project will be run and manned by Filipinos, from engineers to architects down to personnel,” Moñozca said. When completed, the proposed underwater habitat will be the biggest in the world.

Also part of the futuristic project is a 50-bedroom onland boutique hotel complete with amenities like casinos, spa, business center and an underwater restaurant to be named “Starfish,” which could seat as many as 200 people in its 600-square-meter dining area. A seahorse-shaped science center aptly called “Seahorse Science Center” will be built for tourists and will serve as the park’s marine observatory and conservation center showcasing the richness of marine life in the Philippines.

The project is expected to pour in billions of investments and will help create thousands of jobs for the people in Palawan and neighboring provinces.

Conservation tourism

Funding will come from Moñozca’s Monaco-based group, which counts investors from the United States, the Middle East and Russia. As an aggressive venture in ecotourism business, the project also aims to replenish the coral reefs in the area and would advocate conservation tourism in the country.

Moñozca related that everything has been in the planning stage since last year. He identified a group of islands in Coron as the site for development owing to its perfect geography, clear and cove-protected waters and rich marine life. The islands of Palawan hardly experience earthquakes and are not prone to visiting typhoons that occasionally hit the country.

The construction is set to start soon and will be completed in two years, according to Mañosa, who said this would be “my biggest project so far in my professional career.” Mañosa is behind some of the biggest projects like the San Miguel Building constructed in the 1980s and the Brent International School.

“I was overwhelmed myself when the project was offered to me. Even my family is excited about this; my grandchildren are asking when they could visit the underwater resort,” Mañosa said.

The group dispelled fears of security as the whole resort will be tightly guarded. The proponents also envision a cashless system of transaction as everything will be made via specially issued bracelet cards similar to the function of a credit card.

The group promised strict adherence to protect the environment and the biodiversity of Palawan. They said no marine life will be harmed during the course of its construction to its operations.

MANILA, Philippines—The country is all set to embrace a futuristic undersea project to rival those in Maldives, Dubai and Fiji, according to a Filipino team of developer and architects, which is set to build an underwater resort hotel in Palawan.

Dubbed as the Coral World Park, this multibillion-peso project will set the record as Asia’s first underwater resort development and the biggest undersea living in the world once the project is completed by 2013.

i dont like the idea that someone can own an anemone. bat hindi na lang gawin hotel rooms lahat? im sure napakalaki ng dues nyan

if the say the project is world class, e bakit napaka amatuerish ng mga renderings, parang nag copy/paste lang ng mga stock photos sa photoshop?

small file lang yan kaya pangit ang pagkakablow up plus conceptual pa lang yan not really the exact render to be built. mag-antay muna kayo ng official render bago mag-react tungkol sa design.

for sure may changes pa yan.

naka anchor ba to o semi submersible lang...permanent ba to o hindi...baka namn nakaposte sa sea bed at maging permanent structure to,...makakasira ng beauty ng coral reef at what???ibebenta?? hay naku, gawing resort nalang yan baka pag ibenenta nila yan tapos masold out dumami from 1 anemone to planktons naku patay tayo jan masisira pa ang last frontier ng pilipinas...yung sinasabi nila na first in asia hindi totoo yun, at yung design nila parang tinalian na binagol sa tacloban,at yang design ay himagiging ganyan yan sa drawing lang nila yan, magbabago yan pag nakabenta na sila katulad ng lahat ng mga projects sa pilipinas

Is this project viable? Maintenance expense, for sure, will be exorbitant. That means they will have to charge high fees to cover up the expenses. With high expenses, you can only get the emirs to occupy them.

Can we think positive about developments. There are financiers and there are developers and they are visionaries as well....What can you do to help Philippines improve it's image around the World. Let's not worry about expenses and fees...they know who to sell or market this tourist location. I know they will plan it well if they want to recover their investment...Don't you think.??? About time Philippines has something to look forward to.
